The food here is amazing. We have been for both the taster menu and Sunday dinner and loved it both times.

I came to eat here last week with my boyfriend and his family. I was especially looking forward to…read morecoming here as it had won Restaurant of the Year 2011 by Eat Sheffield! The drive to the restaurant was lovely and scenic, going down dark and winding country roads until suddenly we drive around a corner and The Devonshire Arms appeared! We'd got there a little early and we sat down by the bar for some drinks. The menu was displayed on a chalkboard by the seating area and it all looked yummy! The dining area was quite small but very nice and cosy. The kitchen was open and you could see the chefs chopping and cooking away which I quite liked. I chose the rabbit and pheasant terrine with grape chutney as my starter; it came with onion bread and the slice of terrine was huge! I really wanted to finish it, but I couldn't as there was no way I'd be have enough room for my main! For the main, I had venison steak served with new potatoes (usually served with mash which I couldn't have as it had milk/cream in it) and braised red cabbage. The steak was pink and cooked to perfection and the red cabbage was sweet but with a little tart edge to it. I didn't have a dessert but the rest of the party did - my boyfriend had a deconstructed banana cheesecake and his sister had a brownie (I overheard her saying it was the best brownie she'd ever tasted!). All of the staff were really nice, especially the lady who served us that night, she was really lovely and very attentive. The Devonshire Arms fully deserves it's awards and hope it gets more in the future. If you're ever around the Sheffield area and want to venture out of the city centre for some food make sure you come here. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect meal.

It's probably the only bar and restaurant to also be a maze, its HUGE and other than outdoor seating it surely doesn't feel like you're entering a restaurant. They have 3 sets of two doors but strangely only one is in use and there is no sign for this, once inside you basically go back on yourself into a dark, dingy, horrible corner where they have the lift. After leaving the lift, finding the main restaurant is equally as puzzling and difficult. Admittedly, the decor in the restaurant is unique and innovative and true style of The New World Company restaurants, albeit I preferred the Media City branch, there were many similarities with trees, huts etc. It to me felt like an old bank or barn but refurbished, possibly even a potential wedding venue. I dined here during an ongoing promotion where they offered 40% off the food bill in January and ordered my regular Chicken and Chorizo Hanging Kebab which would usually come to £13.95. I did notice the menu to be slightly stained and sticky however service was reasonable with the waitress (Becca), seems to do a lot, despite not being overly busy she seemed to have a huge workload due to them appearing understaffed and she still worked in a friendly and polite manner which is commendable. They do also offer a set menu all year round however this still at £12.95 for two courses this still ends up costing slightly more than the 40% off promotion, so I have no idea why I was offered it. Also, I found it strange that they labelled dairy-free and vegetarian on both menus but only NG (non-gluten) on the regular menu, meaning if you did order from the set menu, you'd have to cross-check between them. Sadly the slight cleanliness issue which arose with the menus seemed to continue with the cutterly (ready on the table) which also wasn't entirely clean sadly which also is uncommon by usual Botanist standards. I did enjoy the majority of my kebab, while I do feel the garlic seemed to taste more overpowering and heavy than other branches, I did also find the meat on the ends to taste a little chewy and overcooked, while the middle was fine. It still had some good flavours and was rather enjoyable and certainly warranted good value for money, even at 50% off. Certainly not the best branch of The Botanist I've been too, but my food was still pretty good, as was most aspects of my experience. I do feel a lot of small improvements do need to be made, however, only warranting a three-star rating for now.

I think this place is great, if it was situated in the centre of Manchester it'd be rammed all day every day but it's just a bit of the main walks in Sheffield, but still pulls in a good crowd. The venue is nothing special but has a homely old put feel it with a tad of weatherspoons mixed in, I think they could do better on this front, but that's not why people visit. This definately isn't a weatherspoons though this is a place for the Beer / Ale Conniseur in all of us. Having a a flick through their hefty beer/ Ale / Cider menu and looking at the extensive guest list you feel like a kid in a candy shop! This might just be Sheffield, but when I ordered a specialty beer I was immediately told it was £4.50 with a earnest look, meaning I could choose something more palitable for less than £4. I'm just not used to this when half one Manchester will charge you more than this for a Peroni from a dirty tap with gritty aftertones! There's a lot of local brewaries in Sheffield so you can get some really good ales at some fantastic prices. So if you in Sheffield definately make it a stop on your bar / pub tour! Theres so much to choose from but its definately worth having a pit stop at the Devonshire Cat!

The drive to the pub is through loads of narrow, winding roads and in the dark, we missed the entrance to the car park and did have to turn around. However, once you manage to find the car park, it is lovely... much like a secret garden. When we walked in, it was very cozy and you could tell that most of the people in the pub were mostly regulars as everyone did seem to know each other. Like always, we didn't book, so we were just hoping they could squeeze us in... and they did. There are dining areas upstairs and in another room, but we ended up sitting at a table near the bar area. It is a dog friendly pub, in fact we were sandwiched by two tables with dogs and they were so well behaved. The menu is not massive, but you can tell this is more than the average pub. Really I would consider this a Gastropub as it isn't your standard pub faire. I wanted to try everything, but decided to try something I haven't had before... Pheasant. Mr. Snarky decided to go with steak. We had decided to skip starters in the hopes that we would have room for dessert. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to eat Pheasant, even though it looks like a small Chicken. So I may not have gotten much meat... actually I may have flung a few pieces around, but the pieces I did get were nice. I do wish there had been more of the Blackberry Jus on the plate as it was beautiful! And the creamed cabbage it came with was wonderful as well and loved the cute mini pot it came in. Mr. Snarky's steak looked wonderful, but I didn't get a bite as he devoured it while I was fighting with my Pheasant. We did end up ordering dessert, however, dessert wasn't as good as our mains, which is why I took a star off. Mr. Snarky had the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The desserts looked lovely... very well presented. Mr. Snarky said that he couldn't taste any white chocolate and said it was quite tart, but not very sweet. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was nice, although I think the slice was a bit too big with not enough Toffee Sauce. I didn't like the Rum and Raisin Ice Cream it was served with... a bit too boozy for me. When the waitress came to clear our table, she had asked if everything was ok because I left the ice cream, and told me that we could always ask to change something if we don't like something. This is a really nice gesture as I know sometimes restaurants aren't keen to make any changes, but to be fair I never had Rum and Raisin Ice Cream before, so I didn't actually know I didn't like it. Overall, it was a lovely dinner, a bit on the pricey side, but worth the price. The service is fantastic... friendly, but also efficient... no staff standing around and everyone is happy to help. No wonder their customers keep returning... and we will be back as well!

So we went to the pub..and had wine (not with the kitty, that would be silly) One of a small chain (Ember pub and dining) in the area, nice, very professionally set up place just near the entrance to The Snake Pass. The house white was reassuringly good and we went to have a ribeye steak with thick chips, onion rings and peas (£13). My friend had the 'black and blue' burger (£10). The food wasn't bad, the steak was nice, properly cooked and perfectly good for the price and place. Good tasty chips and crispy onion rings. They bill themselves as a gastropub; sorry guys the food was OK but doesn't really cut it. Certainly better than the likes of Sam Smiths or Wetherspoons, but hardly gourmet. Handily though they serve food until 10pm daily. The place seems to be good for families with enough room for kids and pushchairs and they appeared to have a really nice set of ales. Eventually Mr. Snarky got fed up with driving around in circles and we ended up parking on the road and walking around. Eventually we found the estate agent and after we had finished our paperwork, we were really hungry. Hangry was becoming a definite possibility, so I just pointed out the pub across the bus station from the agent. Mr. Snarky seemed a bit hesitant, but he also didn't seem interested in walking around to find something else. We walked over and I admit I may have been a bit quick to judge with a banner outside for a £4.99 daily carvery. At one point I may have asked Mr. Snarky if he wanted to go somewhere else... The Milestone is certainly busy, right next to the shopping centre and the bus station. A bit of outdoor seating, facing the bus station, but plenty of seating inside. The place is not short on character... including the regulars stopping in for a pint :). The menu isn't extensive and you can definitely get a meal for less than £10... in fact you could get a meal for less than £5. As such, I wasn't expecting much from my meal, but fuel to keep me going until dinner. I decided to go with the Carvery Sandwich... meats from the carvery in a bap (they called it a bread cake), a bit of stuffing, some roast potatoes, a Yorkshire Pudding, and gravy. Mr. Snarky went with the Bangers and Mash. With two large sodas we paid £11.00. As we sat there, we noticed it was popular for shoppers... people having a cup of tea to people stopping in for slushies. The staff were clearly very familiar with most of the patrons, but were equally as friendly with those of us not-so-familiar. Our food didn't take too long to come out and we were surprised at just how much food there was. And it looked well presented! It may not be gourmet food, but we both liked our food. I chose to go with mixed meats from the carvery and that day it was pork and turkey, both nice large pieces. Gravy was lovely, Yorkshire Pudding was good, although there was a side that looked a touch burnt. Wasn't a huge fan of the stuffing and the roasties weren't quite roasted enough for my liking, but it was still a nice change to chips. I can't vouch for drinks, but it certainly looks like they have a lot of selection when it comes to lager and ale. Again, by no means is it Gastropub, but all the food we saw coming out (Fish and Chips, Scampi, and Carvery dinners) looked quite nice and our food was satisfying. I would qualify this as cheap and cheerful... and convenient. Not bad at all!
