Priced right, clean. Mike at the front desk was great. Eager to accommodate. The room has it's own funky charm not found in corporate chains. As for 'continental breakfast', well, that's a stretch. I'll be walking across the parking lot to the breakfast restaurant that smells good outside. But, at least they offer something. Wi-fi is spotty in our room, probably because we are on the farthest corner. Overall, good. read more

A bunch of pros and cons.... Pros... * Low priced. Wife and I stayed one night for $50 plus about $5 tax. * We had a reservation, but didn't check in until 11:45pm. No problem. Just used my cell phone in small lobby and called number listed on check-in window and clerk was there for us within just a couple of minutes. She was nice and we were checked in quickly. * The place is easy to find off of I-90. Interstate traffic never caused a noise problem, and we never heard any noise whatsoever in the motel itself. * The room was clean. * Shower was nice. TV seemed quite new. We did not use the fridge or microwave, but they appeared clean and in good working order. * The decorating is quite unique. It is a bit artsy and a bit retro. It makes the rooms just a bit more fun. Cons.... * The room was downright cold. I would guess it was in the low 60's We were tired and looked all over for a thermostat and found none in the room. I slept wearing a hoodie and halfway through the night I pulled up the hood. * The room doors are still keys and not electronic in any way. This did not bother us, but may be a problem for some. * The mattress was poor. We were surprised by this as at least one previous review spoke well of the bedding. Pillows were not much better than the mattress. They were thin. I would have rolled up my hoodie to make a bit higher pillow, but I was already wearing it due to the coolness of the room. * A grab bar or two in the bathroom would be a nice feature, both for convenience and safety. Bottom line.... I would consider returning, but not so sure about my wife. Sure, the place is low priced, but there are times we spend a bit more and hope to get a bit more too. read more

We stayed here during our recent trip to the Okoboji area. We didn't want to pay the outrageous holiday prices to stay in town in the Okoboji/Arnold's Park area. We decided it would be worth it to save the money and just drive an extra 20 minutes outside of town. Totally worth it. We reserved our room and we were able to check in at 10pm. The owner greeted us and was very friendly. I'll admit, we got there at 10pm at night, it did look a little suspect but the next morning when we checked out, it was obvious that this place is in a good part of town and we had no warrant to think this place was suspect other than us being in a dark and unfamiliar place. The good: The place was REALLY clean. The commons area did not have any sort of smell or anything. (Hell my apartment complex commons area has a bit of a musty smell) The room was updated and clean. The first thing we always do when we check into a hotel/motel is to check the mattress and sheets for bed bugs. No bed bugs. Also the mattress and bedding was actually extremely clean. The room had a smart TV that you could connect to your Netflix account. Nice touch. (We didn't actually try to do that though) The bathroom was also very clean. There was also a standing fan in the room too. (The ones that look like an air purifier) The Ehh: Our bed, for whatever reason, was ridiculously loud. Whenever we got into or out of bed, it just made this really loud noise. They had a breakfast, but it consisted of honey buns, cereal and oatmeal. I mean don't get me wrong, for $60/night it's a steal. That said, we didn't feel like any of those things so we got breakfast somewhere else. The lights in our bathroom were connected to the fan. The fan was RIDICULOUSLY loud. I mean, it was so loud that I was afraid that the people in the room next to us would be disturbed by it. We told the owners and they said that they knew it was like that but that they had replaced one of the fans and such in one room or upgraded it or something and it still made that awful noise. So I guess it is what it is. Not a HUGE deal or whatever, but more of an annoyance than anything. All in all, this place is a true gem and its obvious that the owners care about the quality of their motel. I'd say this place is just as nice or even nicer than your average la quinta, best western etc. About the eco-friendlyness: The place is partially underground. This would obviously ensure that the place naturally stays cooler than normal. They also appear to have central AC as we found no controls to alter the temp. This would also be more ecofriendly than most places. I will absolutely be staying here when I return to this area next summer! read more

I was impressed. The life of the traveling independent contractor is one of lowered expectations. If I had a nickel for every run down, dicey motel I've crossed paths with, I'd have enough for a Subway footlong. Not the premium sandwiches but probably one of the more basic ones. I approached the earth inn with skepticism but was immediately surprised by the option of firm or pillow top mattress options. The excellent cleanliness level was in strong contrast to the very affordable price. It's plenty dark for deep sleeping and there is a excellent family restaurant next door. Decent wifi and right off the intestate. I'd definitely stay there again if I was unlucky enough to get assigned to work rural Minnesota again. read more

Been traveling cross country over the past 2 months and this has been one of my favorite hotel stays. Just a neat little place with the personality most chain hotels lack. Had clay covered boots upon arrival after some Badlands hiking earlier in the day - owner gave me a huge bucket full of hot water and a scrub brush without blinking an eye. Phone communication prior to stay was easy. Room was very clean, Internet was more than sufficient (was able to Skype), many cable channels to choose from, comfy bed, and the location is right off the highway and easy to find. For 50 dollars I couldn't have been happier. read more

My family looked up this motel and read the reviews because I am sooo picky about where we stay.....the place was like home, actual towels like home, bedsheets comfy with patterns,new floors,and the manager Jo might as well been my best friend from next door....very sweet and genuine person....treated you like a friend and not like a customer. Joe was so friendly and accommodating, especially since we did not arrive until after midnight. The rooms are all themed and immaculately clean. Booked reservations at the Earth Inn for 3 days to attend the Jackson Nationals car race in Jackson. Got a confirmation number from Earth Inn and thought we were all set to go, so we bought $200 worth of tickets to attend. A couple hours later we got a call from the Earth Inn manager telling us they were all booked and there was no rooms available for us. So now we're hung out to dry with (nonrefundable) tickets and no place to stay. What does "confirmation" mean??? read more

Neat motel. Easy to reach right off the road and conveniently located next to a gas station and restaurant. The rooms are newly redecorated and give off a unique charm. The motel is intimate, though, meaning it's not hard to hear noise from elsewhere in the place, although it probably didn't help that we were situated close the entrance. The checkout time is 11am, which I guess is fine, but they make a point of advising guests that they'll be charged $5 per extra half-hour stayed, which I think is a tad extreme. The 'earth' part of this inn is intriguing...it appears they covered the motel in dirt/soil and packed it in on the sides after it was built. I like that they're doing something different here, but exactly how eco-conscious the place is? Unclear. I would recommend the place because it's affordable and something different from the chains. Oh! They also have smart TVs which allow you to log into your Netflix account, which is awesome. read more

My son and entire family gave them 5 stars. My youngest wanted to give them a 6 because the hotel smelled good. We had a Fabulous experience and were immensely impressed at the impeccable cleanliness. We arrived late and didn't notice the construction which in the morning revealed that the hotel is mostly underground. The roof is made of a lawn. There are windows out the backside, where we stayed and the view is at ground level with some windflowers. Would have loved to have taken advantage of their laundry service and was thrilled to buy a bag of ice for our cooler. The Earth Inn Motel is a wonderful spot to spend your night. Very tidy and extremely well cared for with extremely nice people. No pets and no smoking. And you get real towels that are soft & fluffy and a super comfortable bed with perfect pillows. Everything seems to be new because it is so well maintained and the floors were the first in a hotel that I didn't mind walking on barefoot. Can't say enough! Oh, there is a simple self-serve breakfast in the morning from 7-9. read more

I arrived about 1am during a cross country drive. I received a friendly greeting. The room was decorated with care. It was creative and tasteful. It was very clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had a beautiful recliner and electric stone fireplace on the wall. Around 2am the people next door made noise coming in, however, that was the only downfall-- the walls being too thin. I would definitely recommend this place. It was peaceful and quiet in the morning. A good place to sleep in. read more
