No reason...just realised that perhaps the kick was the highlight and offered a clever disguise for average food. I went back today and opted for the beef and vegetables with sweet potato noodles. I was intrigued - and let down. As far as I could tell there wasn't anything 'sweet potato' about the standard noodles I got. Perhaps it had run away with beef since it appeared to be non-existent too, until I got a couple of scraps under my mass of non-sweet potato noodles. For $15 I might stick to Oakleigh's souvlaki instead.

Since everything is made fresh, the dumplings are cooked to perfection and are not overly oily - unlike some other places. My favourite dish here however has to be the hand made noodles with beef. It comes in a delicious broth with lots of vegetables and just the right amount of coriander to garnish. Perfect for lunch on a chilly day. Dumpling King also has a clever food pick up service installed. When you order at the counter, you'll be given a beeper that sounds when you're order is ready for pick up. No more having to listen for your name or number to be called.

Naturally, they ran out of shrimp dishes by the time we arrived. So we settled for some poached chicken and a vegetable dish with sauce. The chicken was oily and the rice had to be used to help soak up the juice. The vegetables were... saucy. And I hate "Chinese mushrooms" that were dried and have to be reconstituted. Green tea came in tea bags... not cool in my opinion. Why am I paying $2 for a tea bag? I could've brought one myself. Loose leaf tea is cheaper anyway. One good thing? Open until 10PM on a Wednesday night. Would not recommend this place unless you can't find anywhere else to eat. A more healthy version than McDonalds.... maybe.

Cost just under $15 each. -Miso Soup -Steamed Rice -Sliced Fruit -Bento containing Teriyaki Chicken, Fried Tofu, Seaweed Salad, Grilled Eggplant, Curried Pasta Spirals, Asian Lettuce Loved the soup, rice, the eggplant and the perfectly cooked skinless lean tender chicken in delish sauce.. Not so keen on the tofu [totally bland and tasteless] the pasta [why pasta? just didn't belong]. the sliced fruit [very basic slice of apple, pear and orange] or the lettuce [went limp, soggy and dark with the heat] Really disliked the oyster sauce dressing on the seaweed [this salad's usually my first go to item in the bento box] No slice of hand-roll or inside-out roll.. No wedge of omelette.. No piece of tempura.. - kinda disappointed.. Yes, it was cheap, but their bento boxes are all the same price..so... Anyway, I'm very mindful that it was take-away... Will do an update after we've eaten in... Visited Thursday 10 March 2016 for dinner.
