Unfortunately, I continued to feel excluded from important decisions in my own case. At one point, I was informed after the fact that discussions were moving toward settlement and that trial or pretrial preparation would not be necessary because opposing counsel had a settlement agreement prepared. I did not feel adequately consulted during that process. Ultimately, I decided to terminate representation and proceed on my own. I later successfully prevailed in the case without that attorney's assistance. I appreciate the mission of the organization and understand legal aid offices are often overwhelmed, but my personal experience left me feeling unheard and unsupported during a very stressful time. I also acknowledge that others may have very different experiences than mine. This review reflects only my personal experience. I would encourage anyone seeking representation to know their rights, ask questions, and explore multiple legal options before deciding who to work with.
