We decided to stay here for my birthday weekend. We arrived late in the evening and checked in but honestly didn't feel very welcome. I work at a hotel and have been in the Hospitality industry for 10 years+ and it could have been a much better arrival. The Front Dest agent seemed preoccupied in the phone but it definitely was a personal call. She never asked for ID and didn't know the area to well either. We got our keys and walked up to our 2 bedroom suite (302) and it was nice and clean but nothing overwhelming. Each room had a king bed but the room with the lake view does not have a bathroom attached to the room which isn't terrible but not that convenient. The living area was nice and the patio was really special and view was amazing. We stayed two night and our coffee machine wasn't very good and made the coffee taster extremely bitter. The fire place also was very low and didn't keep the room/living room warm. We told Front Desk but nothing was done. Overall it was nice and was worth it considering we booked a special rate but not sure if I had paid the full rate I would have given 3 stars I would stay here again if there was a special but nothing to really talk about aside from the view of the lake. And customer service could have been better no doubt, it really makes all the difference.

Rooms have amazing lake views! We love the large living spaces... (We stay in the 1 bedroom suites)... So much better than just a hotel room. It's truly a home away from home with the fully stocked kitchen, comfortable living room, and separate bedroom. It's quiet with simple luxuries like the gas fireplace and heated floors plus the cozy community area. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. It's a bit pricey, but we think it's worth it. The balcony overlooking the lake and the sound of the waves rolling in is worth every penny! We love the personal details that each suite has like the artwork, books, and games and the beach with fire pit and all the firewood you need for your own bonfire and snores!

Garbage Stored in the hallway the entire time we were there.

My wife and I decided to stay here over the Christmas holiday of 2014. When we checked in we were given a room that was clean and comfortable except for the rancid smell of leftover lutefisk. Thinking this was a short term problem we opened up all of the windows to air out the room. We left the hotel for holiday festivities for over 6 hours. We returned to the room that evening and unfortunately determined the smell had not dissipated. The next morning we awoke to the smell not only in the air but attached to everything we brought with us. We asked for and received a different room. When we were going through the booking process the very friendly people apologized about the condition of the room and said they only clean rooms that are scheduled to be rented the following evening....rather odd practice...growing up in a family that operated in this marketplace. We checked into our new room and went on our way. The next morning I went to use the shower and noticed mold growing in the shower. Having cleaned many showers in my life and knowing that mold like this takes months to form left an unpleasant feeling about the place we are staying...Let alone the garbage they stored in the hallways and exit area of the building piled up like cord wood... I was not happy. The price they charge for these rooms was the highest in not only the city but the county. When checking out after our three day stay they reduced our 675.00 bill excluding tax to 625.00... Fifty buck off great...."tanks for nuttin' Danny"...Caddyshack.....Don't get me wrong I like the staff, location, and the city. Best in the world, but the cleanliness and price are absurd. Stay elsewhere. We will not return. Not because of the price or the meager discount but rather the knowledge that they don't give a crap.

Beautiful view of Superior from our Studio balcony. Would be such a wonderful spot for morning coffee in the non-winter months!

Rooms were comfortable and stocked with all the ameneties you would need along with a small fridge and microwave. The hotel itself had an excellent free breakfast in a really pretty dining area. Extra points in that they included lefse on the menu, which is a must try if you're that far up north. in the lobby they also had a small bar area. We didn't take advantage of that offering but nice to know that it was an option. One of the things that drew us to the spot was there indoor hot tub as well. The hot tub is enormous, and in some photos I saw and had a waterfall like feature. Unfortunately the times we went down it wasn't on and we couldn't figure out how to turn it on, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time In the hot tub. While we were there, one of our fellow travelers was doing a little sauna experience, running out into the lake, jumping in the cold water and then coming back and jumping into the hot tub. It's a bit of a walk through the hotel and down to the beach but fun to try if you're up for it! Location is perfect as there are lots of shops, viewpoints, restaurants, etc that are all easily walkable. This is definitely our hotel of choice when returning to Grand Marais!

Staff was so kind and friendly, facility as a whole was warm, welcoming, clean, and supportive of a much needed vacation. The double queen bed room booked was beautiful and just enough for when you're done walking for the day and want to relax near Lake Superior. We had a third level room and a balcony to sit outside, absolutely breathtaking. I really like that the shower and toilet are in an enclosed space with a large vanity/sink outside so people can shower in quick rounds and not hog the entire bathroom. This hotel has some pet-friendly rooms ($25/one dog, $40/2 dogs) on the second(main) level, which is great if you want your pups to join you. Overall lovely experience, and I will be back!

There is a community fire pit that is just outside the door and with only 5 cabins - each one unique and special! I loved it and Robert Lund is treasure as is the resort. It's part of what makes Grand Marais so special indeed! We did not have internet but our phones worked perfectly and we were able to use our cell phones as a hotspot to use our laptop computers. Worked pretty well and easy to do.

We were running late, and Bob stayed around at the window for us about an hour later than we had anticipated checking in. We were welcomed and given the grand tour of the B&B: several rooms on the top floor, including our queen bedroom with shower; the main floor, which has loads of books, a cozy gas fireplace, lots of comfy chairs and tea and coffee on demand as well as a dining room table; and the basement which has a sauna (with shower and toilet) and ski room with an area to get ready to ski and a waxing stand. The digs are clean and homey, and the entire house is scattered with art from Marlys (a truly talented woman) and other notable area artists including Jim Brandenburg. I felt like I was staying at a nice, warm cabin of a friend. If this is a ski destination trip for you (as it was for us) the Pincushion Mountain trail system is literally right out the door. And the skiing was amazing! We had about 1.5-2 feet of pack compared to the Twin Cities' nothing during the first full weekend in January. The sauna was a real treat after skiing in sub-zero temps. All I can say is, we'll definitely be back!

Here's a pro tip, wake up 45 minutes before sunrise set your camera in the window for a time lapse and go back to bed while your phone captures an amazing sunrise over the lake. I highly recommend it as long as you remember that you're not gonna be staying at a posh five star hotel. It's comfortable and located right in the middle of the town. I'll be back soon!
