Another PS for Studio In Essence:…read more After my very first pole dancing class, I feel it may be worthy to provide a little feedback on what my experience entailed! As previously stated, I'm less of a minx, and more of a mouse, so my nerves were a little on edge prior to the class. I know the studio for its playful energy and great instructors, and so with a few gal pals, decided why not. The class is absolutely not intimidating. Our instructor, Christy, was sweet, smiling and eased us in with fun stretches and conditioning exercises. There were lots of giggles and great body moving. The entry level pole class seems to be about building the proper muscle to support ones body weight, as progression entails more body lifting. Christy taught us some key exercises to help build and prepare our bodies for more intense moves that would come with time. Its very much an eased in process, and very fun! I'd suggest wearing pants as oppose shorts, as the extra slide from the fabric could making things a bit easier. The attention to body awareness and technique exemplified a superior knowledge of instruction, and its clear that the pole class is more than just a giggle or two. Great work out and a fun time.

Me, the anti-gym bunny, actually looks forward to fitness classes now. What is this world even coming to? The TRX Camps take only 45 minutes out of my day and pass without making me ever feel like I can't keep up or that I'm failing which is key in keeping me motivated...I'm not the kind of guy who likes to get screamed at by overenthusiastic trainers while trying to get my fitness on. I like the kind of people who can look me in the eye, understand that what they're telling me to do isn't as fun as eating cookies, but convince me that I'll thank them later. And that's pretty much what happens. Even though I don't feel completely wrecked during the workout, by the time I make it out to my car afterward every muscle in my body is shaking. Helps me feel like my super focused workout is getting me more bang for my buck than trying to figure out my own free-weight program and routinely giving up halfway through. The classes are typically led by Laurissa, the owner, with about four or five other people which makes for a friendly, welcoming, and personalized experience. I can tell Laurissa where my weak points are and she can customize the workout to make sure I still get the benefits without putting my body at risk. I've completely drank the Kool-aid!

I've had an opportunity to work closely with a personal trainer by the name of Lisa Tilley and wouldn't trade her for the world! Lisa is motivating, educated, patient and understanding. She helps me with my work out and also gives me great advice for my diet. When I first met with Lisa, she asked me a number of questions to ensure she understood my fitness needs and goals. She truly did listen to what I struggled with and has since motivated me enough to stick with an exercise program! Nubody's is a little more expensive than a few other gyms, but it's well worth the money. I pay biweekly which helps me with my budgeting and I get to pay through payroll deductions. I actually receive a corporate discount. Being a member of an all-womens gym seems to be less intimidating and I really enjoy it!

On the plus side, the gym is modernly designed and is very clean, and is a nice looking place to work out in. On the downside, in comparison to some of the other gyms, this gym is overly crowded with equipment and people, and could greatly benefit from an expansion. The gym tends to get uncomfortably warm during busy times especially the upstairs yoga studio. Also, the gym does not offer all of the same equipment as some other Nubody's - for example their is no stand up calf-machine and only one set of 20 lbs hand-weights. Overall, a nice club, but for practicality reasons I would choose to do my workout at another Nubody's.

If only for the fact that I am an average, skinny, 5'10 male. And a lot of the guys who go to this gym are professional body builder's! Its great to walk up to them lifting eighty pounds or more with one arm and I'm there with my nice and light fifteen or twenty pounds. I try to stare them down but they simply laugh at me. This gym boasts "a full stock of dumbbells ranging from 3 all the way up to 160 lbs." This is very true. I never find myself waiting for a dumbbell set because someone is using it. They have enough for everyone. And they are improving! they have added what they call a "cardio theatre." In other words, they have more cardio equipment. There is an open space concept which has its advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage is that everyone can see you while you are working out. But in my opinion, just get some confidence and remind yourself that no matter what body type you are, you rock! Then rock it out! The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. If you start talking to them you find out right away that you feel part of a team or a family. They are there to support you. It feels more like a team or family first and a business second. Which is very important to me. They also have a juice bar and a lot of televisions so you can watch Oprah while on the cardio machines. Their prices are the same as most other gym's. Not very expensive but not quite cheap. In my opinion, you definitely are getting a good price. With the addition of new, on site tanning beds they are showing that they are keeping up with the competition at a steady pace. Fitness Fx has been one of my favorite gyms for all of the above reasons. But perhaps the reason why I give it a fourth star is because they are improving with new equipment, more programs and store renovations without increasing the price of their membership. One of the most admirable things I have seen a gym do in a long time! And I definitely took notice. So stop sitting around, reading my reviews and head for the gym! Whatever machine I'm interested in is usually available immediately or within 20 minutes. It's a very friendly place, and things are generally tidy and ready to use. I do find that depending on the time of day there are some folks who forget the "please don't drop your weights and scare the jittery among us" rule, and clang their weights pretty hard on the ground. That said, the management have responded well to this kind of problem and promised to remind repeat-offenders to control their dumbells lest they bounce on someone's toes and cause a more serious injury than a simple pulled hamstring. The rates are really reasonable, and they've been good lately at updating their class schedule too. ETA: Within hours of writing my review I went to get some exercise and found new cardio machines all set up! Well done, guys :)

Fit Plus has been my second home for nearly six months. I have never had much interest in team…read moresports, but I was getting bored with my gym membership and wanted to trying something new. I prefer to exercise at a high intensity and knew that martial arts have a reputation for delivering on this, so I stopped by to sign up for the 30-day free trial offered by the gym. A quick note - don't be put off by the gym's appearance! The building is the former home of Titans Gymnastic Club and is a bit worse for the wear, but is quite spacious and has plenty of equipment. This is a gym for those who are serious about training, so don't expect an interior comparable to that of Goodlife. I tried Introductory Muay Thai and boxing, the latter being the discipline that I chose after the trial was over. The club also offers Jiu-Jitsu, women's boot camp, and children's classes. I have been fortunate to work under the tutelage of several instructors, all of whom are highly-qualified in their field and very effective as teachers. They will work you to your utmost - be prepared for the most effective workout you've ever done! The class sizes are generally small, especially at the advanced level, so you can be sure to obtain plenty of one-on-one attention. Many of the members fight competitively (including TJ Grant); if your goal is to make it to the professional level, the instructors will help you to achieve it. The membership prices vary; it's more expensive than a typical gym membership but you are receiving customized one-on-one attention, which makes the extra cost well worth it. The gym also has a small pro shop where you can purchase equipment, all of which is high quality. I've had, and hope to continue having, an exhilarating and incredibly rewarding experience as a member of Fit Plus Dartmouth. Drop in and give it a shot!

We had our son in the children's programs at fitplus and experience terrible customer service,…read morepolicy was poorly communicated to parents and we were asked not to attend classes because the size of the facility is terrible small. The classes are packed beyond capacity and the kids are out of control because of poor supervision. We recently switched to forca and the facility and programming are far superior.
