Université Sainte-Anne offers the only higher education Francophone campus in the province. The Halifax office offers outreach and part-time courses, appealing to adult learners. It also offers private courses, which - among others - is contracted to various federal government locations in the city. I've taken an enrichment course that was offered to the federal government and I have to say it didn't compare to a similar course I took at a language school. I was expecting exercises and developmental work. Instead, we focused almost exclusively on conversational French. Don't get me wrong - I can always use practice, but I was really hoping for more of a refresher course in grammar and verbs. However, I've spoke with others who have been in similar courses, and they've all been very happy with their experience. It's possible that my course was a one-off, of course, but it definitely soured me on future courses of that type. The bottom line is that Université Sainte-Anne offers one of the few French first-language learning opportunities.

Through my time of volunteering at the school I have come to know everyone of the teachers and have truly witness the positive impact they have made on my children's lives. In addition to the sunny indoor space, there is a wonderful backyard playground so the children have outside play time. And during winter months, the indoor 'obstacle course' is a big hit. The same exemplary instruction that NSCAD is known for, and with less of an investment of time and money. There is a "Personal and Professional Interest" section of courses with some great opportunities to build upon your skill regardless of day to day profession. Branching out from more than just studio-based programs, seminar formatted classes are available as well. (Course examples: Enhanced Teaching Skills; Strategic Planning for the Arts; Cultivating Concepts) These are classes to incorporate into any profession. I was all set and ready to go for an 8 week creative writing course being offered this month. Unfortunately for me, it was cancelled do to lack of interest. I have a feeling that not enough people are aware of the ground NSCAD's Extended Studies covers. Only $250 for an 8 week program-- I am confident it would've been a worthy investment. There are also open studio programs available for established artists looking to use NSCAD's facilities. Pay a portion of cash, and you are free to roam and work as much as you like. Sounds good to me. Overall, there are a lot of great options through this program. It seems to be ever growing, and I definitely wish I'd looked into this more before I enrolled as a student at NSCAD. Going into my second degree and stopping midway through, in retrospect, the ES could've been a better option.

My boyfriends sister who is Indian went for an interview and all they said was "oh your english no good", interview didn't even last 2 minutes. Constantly micro managed, harrassed, and sometimes others book and it becomes over booked then you dont get a break or lunch. Even while on lunch expect to be interrupted and be put back to work. Also you can expect the owner to call you 40 times a day. Your told the job description yet told to do things out of your job description. Many times patients would come out with needles still in them. Patients sometimes lay there for 30 minutes before the dr even go in. I quit due to stress, I mailed the keys in not knowing you couldnt send by regular mail. They charged me nearly $200 to replace locks. Honestly I feel like they just set the whole thing up because they are salty, if someone found random keys, I do not think they would know what in the world those keys were for. Over all just a bad experience working there. I heard things before, I should have listened but instead I learned the hard way.

Its newly built gymnasium/ multi-purpose centre is phenomenal! It nice and large - about twice the size of an average gym, with exceptionally high ceilings, quality equipment and modern design. The gym is always very clean and well taken care of. The only problem we sometimes experience is when one of our balls land on the 2nd level, as we don't have access to the staircase, but somehow always manage to get them down.

Pros and Cons: Armbrae junior school has a relatively small class size (18 kids), and plan to recruit teacher assistants (8 AM-12 noon) for younger grades starting Sept 2017. They have an afterschool program until 5 30 PM, which is included within the tuition fees. The director of the junior school was enthusiastic and kind but seemed somewhat inexperienced. Both the junior school director and the primary grade teacher have their kids at school, and appeared to have vested interest in making positive changes to the school. They have a large gym but unfortunately both the gym and music room are detached from the main building (need to dress us in winter clothes to walk over there from main building). The senior school does not have and IB program and kids don't do as well in national math competition compared with HGS. Admission Process: The director of the junior school took the time to answer our questions and accompany us on a school tour, but the school did not seem very well prepared for parent visits (e.g. met in hallway on two separate occasions with no private place to talk). Unfortunately, the admission process itself at Armbrae went horribly wrong. We were given false information regarding the admission process / wait list by the junior school director and the headmaster admin assistant. We were told there is a guaranteed spot for our kid if we elect to enroll pending satisfactory evaluation. We were made to go through the whole process of application / kid interview, to be sent a letter by mail later offering us a spot on the wait list as there are actually no spots available. The director of the junior school honestly took responsibility for his own wrong doing in this matter (providing false information, withholding relevant updates, and lack of courtesy to parents), while the headmaster dishonestly tried to fully deflect the blame on more junior members.
