Slightly intimidating at first. Ladies just to warn you, I was the lone female in a tiny room of about 30 lunching men when I stopped by for a sandwich last week. I was across the street grabbing some delicious Chinese pastries at Creme de Bakery when I decided to finally try this place out. I work around the corner and have passed by lots of times and heard good things from co-workers so I thought what the heck. It's really hard to mess up a sandwich. I went with the suggestion from Charles S. and had a Philly with everything and an order of onion rings. I was feeling like I could afford some extra cals that day I guess. I fully agree, the onion rings are fantastic. You know that annoying thing that sometimes happens with onion rings where you bite into it and the whole dang onion slides out and you're left with a shell of batter? That doesn't happen at all with these. And the fry sauce is really great, too. The Philly was a good sandwich and I particularly loved the spicy red pepper stuff they put on top. It wasn't really a sauce, but it wasn't a dry topping either. I'm not sure what to call it but it was delicious. The beef itself on the sandwich I found to be a tad bland, but topped with the tang of pickles, fresh lettuce and tomato, mayo and that spicy stuff, it was an enjoyable sandwich. I ordered the small version and it was plenty to fill up my belly for the rest of the workday. The staff was courteous and though they were completely slammed, they didn't act frantic whatsoever. I will be happy to visit here again and sample the rest of what their expansive menu has to offer. read more

A great place with great service to get a great Philly. This little hole in the wall offers a great variety of subs and sides. The fries are tasty, especially if you get the cheese fries. The Philly is the perfect blend of cheese, meat and veggies without killing the flavor with too much grease. The staff is nice and friendly. Your meal is made with a smile and quickly, even if they are busy. They also keep the restaurant clean and comfortable. With more and more sub shops popping up, it's good to see a store like this continue to serve great food. read more

I have been coming to this place since before they had to move. I LOVE the subs and fries! I love that they are clean, consultant, fresh made and yummy every single time. We ordered cheesesteaks, fries and drinks for pickup. The sandwich rolls were soft, flavorful and just the right size - not your "average" hoagie shop standard. The sandwiches are terrific! We got them with everything, and the spicy pepper combination was superb - doesn't disappoint in any way and compliments the tender beef and cheese. Fries come with sauce, and the order size is generous. East Coast Subs sounds a little 'far fetched' this far west of Philly/NY but the high quality food, welcoming service and value is unbeatable! read more

I grew up in Murray, and East Coast Subs was by far my favorite place to go. Now that I live 30 min away, I still go out of my way at least 3 times a month to get my Pepper Jack Steak sandwich. I introduced East Coast to my wife 15 years ago, if she finds out I went there without her, she gets annoyed, and she isn't a big lunch eater. A sub shop that's just about the closest food to the Intermountain hospital. I don't quite get the hype -- the sandwiches seem like deli sandwiches; the pastrami seemed like nothing special. And the only thing that makes it "east cost" are a few chotchkies of Maine lighthouses and other nautical likenesses. If the sandwiches were a little bit cheaper, then maybe the lack of uniqueness, quality, or ambiance would be excusable. But it's not, and they're not. I dunno, maybe I missed something. But I'd say that if you have to go to the hospital, drive a bit more and treat yourself to something a bit better. Or sneak in an Oh Mai bahn mi or a Moochie's cheesesteak while you're visiting the infirmary. read more

I must have forgotten that I went to the South Salt Lake version of this place, as, in the name of canvassing and convenience, I popped in for a quick bite. This time was sort of like the other place. Beef in the sandwich was good, but this is more of a steak and cheese rather than Philly cheesesteak and not really the best version of that I've had, either (Joni's would be that). In fact, this was a bit of a step down from the South Salt Lake location, since here I had to hunt for the cheese and they omitted the hot peppers for some reason. It was also a bit sloppy. On the plus, though, they did have a fairly nice iced tea, the interior was clean and this was overall a fairly ok place to hang out, if you were inclined. I wasn't and strongly question whether there is enough here to bring me back again, but it is worth noting. I'm not necessarily averse to returning, but it would require a certain alignment of the stars probably for it to actually happen. read more

First of all, you should know that this place is usually pretty packed, so that should let you know that there are a lot of people who think this place is pretty good -- and I'm one of them. They have several different things you can order, but I'm just here for the cheese steaks. The classic and the "steak and everything" are pretty much the same and they are both great. When I'm feeling particularly extravagant, I'll let myself get their delicious onion rings, too. Back when I was a teenager, I probably would have thought the sandwiches were too small, but now that I can't eat 3000 calories in a single sitting without waist-line consequences, I actually think their portion sizes are great -- I finish feeling about 80% full, which is an ideal place to stop, IMO. The biggest problem with this place is their hours. They are mostly a lunch place. If you want to do dinner, you have to get there before 4. Rather than doing 9-4, I think they should be more like 10-5 or even 10-6, but I guess they get enough business for lunch time that they don't need to. BUT, if the owners are reading this, just know that I'd come here for a dinner-to-go if you were open past 5:30. I've tried several cheesesteak places near SLC and have liked most of them, but East Coast Subs is my favorite. What tastes better than something else is a matter of opinion, so take it for what it's worth, but as someone who grew up near Philadelphia, PA, mine is that this place offers better cheesesteaks than: DP Cheesesteaks, Capriotti's, Fat Boy Phillis, or Jersey Mike's. They remember my grandma, my friend and me by name and we don't go in there together at all so you can tell they connect with there customers and now there food ooooooooo the food is to die for but if you could only try one thing from there it would have to be the onion rings which are deep fried to a perfect crisp and go amazing with there fry sauce. read more

After attempting to eat here numerous times, all without success since they close at 5 on weekdays and 4 on the weekend, we finally tried it. I had the Philly Cheese Steak. It was decent, but I've definitely had better...in Philly... The meat lacked a little flavor, but it was tender. The cheese and toppings (onions/peppers) were decent, I guess I just prefer my meat more flavored. I was not a fan of the bread, nothing special. To sum it up: good but not impressed. We also tried the cheese fries which were just ordinary. The service was fast and friendly. If you're in the area, I'd stop by but I wouldn't go out of your way to eat there. I really really love this place! It used to be the place my parents would take me to when we would come down to salt lake. I've been coming here for years and they are very consistent. Every time I come I get 1 of my 3 favorite sandwiches. Cheesesteak, philly, or pepper steak. My sister and I have this place on our utah local favorites list. It's a must in my book. Their fresh brewed iced tea is super good too! I usually add a splash or two of lemonade to make it a bit sweet. They aren't open for dinner and are usually packed for lunch. There's a second location on 3500s and state which isn't as packed. I've tried to make their pepper relish thing at home and have never come close. I really wish they sold it because I would put it on everything. All and all it hasn't changed the entire time I've been going and I like it that way. read more

First time eating at this chain. A group from work went there and it is someone's favorite. Pretty good. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich (which is different from the Philly cheese steak btw). The bread was soft and fresh. Not a lot meat though. Since we were in a group I thought I'd get some onion rings to share. They were average and I'm glad others were eating them so I didn't have to. This is one of my dad's favorite restaurants and took me here. I had pasted here many times but never knew there was a restaurant here because the sign is so small. I had the pepper jack steak, small. At first I thought that it was a little pricy, but after eating I am pleasantly pleased an think it's a great deal for what you get. It was very flavorful and I like the kick if spice; although my particular taste would make it hotter somehow. My family loves this restaurant. It is family owned and they appreciated their customers. If you are a regular it does not take them long to learn your name. Ordering at the counter gets to be a checking in with friends time. I like the cheese steak, French dip, Italian meats and turkey bacon Swiss sandwiches.
