My old school friend text me to say that he was up for Christmas from Manchester. He asked if was I still kicking about Blantyre and I sure am so he suggested heading to Asda Blantyre Cafe. When he came to my bit he had fortunately changed his mind and said 'Howsabout EK instead?' Yay, you betcha! I love the East Kilbride Shopping Centre or it's more the Centre West bit that I like best nowadays. It's actually split into several shopping malls, Prince's Mall and The Plaza were the first then they linked up The Plaza to the Olympia with the ice rink and cinema. I loved that part when I was younger. Then they covered up Prince's Square to become a mall then recently added on to The Plaza, Centre West. If you enter from the bus station it is a bit grim but keep heading through and it does get better. I normally park at Centre West but my friend likes parking at the Olympia. We still don't know how you can park in the underneath car park. Hmm?!! Anyhoo it was lovely to grace this entrance, it was completely mobbed, lovely to see the ice rink still as busy as ever. *Flashback* First time I was ever on an ice rink with my mum. Did witness someone fall and have their hand slashed though. I remember the paramedics and blood on the ice. Fortunately it didn't put me too much off ice skating. We mostly window shopped as we didn't see much we fancied in the sales. We decided to stop for a wee coffee at Costa in The Plaza. There's plenty of food courts and coffee shops about in all the malls. I love the food court in Centre West best. The one at the ice rink not so much nowadays, if you saw it you would understand why. It's great to come here especially when it's raining as everything's all under one roof and it's call Toys R er maybe not. Did most of my Christmas shopping here as there's a great variety of shops. There's still empty lets in the various malls but there's still plenty of shops to make you drop. read more

East Kilbride shopping centre elicits a mixed opinion from me. If you'd shopped here 5 years ago, it was a plethora of shops and you were able to get absolutely everything you were looking for. Today, it's a bit pathetic and every second lot seems to be lying empty. There's everything here you'd expect in a shopping centre; Topshop, a huge Debenhams, Waterstones and a selection of others. There's also a couple of cafés, a McDonald's and a decent sized food court. There's also a huge ice rink and upstairs there's an Odeon cinema and a library. It has a lot in it, it's just a bit depressing to walk through and see most of the lots lying empty. read more

East Kilbride Shopping Centre is a funny place. When you walk in from the bus station entrance, it looks like a complete dump, with most of the shops boarded up. The ones that aren't are either charity shops or "assorted crap" shops as I like to call them, which sell cheap rubbish. A result, I imagine, of the recent recession. The food court with its luminous plastic seats sells a variety of greasy dishes designed to provoke a heart attack. The adjoining ice rink plays techno versions of songs I haven't heard since 1992. But as you move through the centre, you begin to notice something strange. It actually has a few decent shops, such as H&M and Topshop. The other wing is just bizarre. It is much nicer than the rest, with a Marks and Spencer and more upmarket foodcourt. It looks like the last bit was tagged on with the hope shoppers will forget the rest of East Kilbride Shopping Centre exists. A better move would be to clear out the assorted crap and start again. read more

Oh, East Kilbride Shopping Centre. Everyone wants to go to shiny Silverburn now and leave you to rot. Let's face it--you're not as pretty as Silverburn. But just between you and me, Silverburn's kind of up its arse, don't you think? Sure, she's got several great restaurants, a Tesco's the size of a small planet, and shops of every ilk, but whatever. You've got your own thing going on, regardless of how discombobulated and shambolic it may appear. You've got an ice rink, a food court, several charity and pound shops, a movie theatre, and a restaurant delightfully named "Shenanigans." You've grown since we first met, but not gracefully, I'm afraid. Now you are an insanely long corridor that changes so drastically from shabby to sleek it's like I've taken a hit of acid and gone down the rabbit hole as I attempt to wend my way from one end to the other. Metaphorically, you are a woman who used to be fat and has lost several stone in a short period of time, but still has weird, unflattering bulgy bits that you just can't seem to get rid of. Still, you're looking good, darling. Keep on doing your thing and I will keep coming back. read more

Warning: don't make eye contact with anyone here, my friend once got her head kicked in by some ned who did the whole, "What you looking at?" nonsense. I think it's fair to say that this particular shopping centre is infamous for attracting such ilk and they usually congregate around the ice-rink. For convenience then I guess EK Shopping Centre is alright, it has most of the big brand name shops, and you will probably be able to find most of the things you are looking for here. There's also ample food courts to fill up if all that shopping tires you out. read more

I used to come here with my Gran when I was a kid as an alternative to going shopping in Hamilton, and there have only been minor changes since then (for better or worse). Most importantly.. for me.. the ice rink is still here! It's next to the Bus Station here and near the Train Station which make it easy to get to by public transport and it is a valid alternative to other big shopping centres like St. Enoch or Buchanan Galleries. There are some familiar names and some unfamilar ones, with some good eateries AND an ice rink! So many happy memories. There's also a cinema and apparently a lazer tag thing now as well so you can make a day of it which is cool. AND there's an ice rink. read more

It was a wet, gloomy, windy day (and I had the cold) when I desperately needed to buy a few last-minute presents. The thought of traipsing round the shops in the city centre all tensed up due to the low temperature and fighting with the umbrella was unbearable. So off to East Kilbride Shopping Centre we went. All undercover, even the carpark, it was perfect for a dry wander and even better for picking up a gift or two. Unlike many other shopping centres, it is really long which means it can get extremely busy at the narrower sections - not quite posh Princes Square or Silverburn but still, dry. It is filled with little stalls down the middle which sell items ranging from jewellery to scarves to bags to baby clothes to trinkets and they are mostly reasonably priced. You'll definitely get something unique here. With all the usual high street stores such as H&M, Zara, Debenhams, Early Learning Centre, Boots, etc. there is just about something for everyone. There is also an ice rink (surrounded by a food court) and a 9 screen Odeon cinema if you get bored of the shopping plus there are usually several events being held throughout the mall. Sadly, in comparison to newer malls such as Silverburn, and with pound shops springing up throughout the mall, EK Shopping Centre is looking a bit tired and, well, run-down. Definitely still worth a visit though for the great wee gift shops and stalls. If you can, go on a Sunday or a Thursday evening - parking is free. read more

The last time I visited East Kilbride Shopping Centre, the place seemed to have suffered badly following the recession as lots of shops were closed. Then again, most of the remaining shops were "all items for a pound" places so maybe it was a dump in the first place. There is a Marks and Spencer and Debenhams here but they are cornered off in the one slightly swanky wing of the shopping centre, far away from all the plebby places. Tip: don't eat in the food court. read more

Though its been a while since I've been to EK Shopping centre & from the looks of it about half the shops have shut down & been borded up despite it being an easter sunday weekend. Though if its current owners are planning on doing something similar like with the pollok centre (now silverburn) & doing something rather interesting then only time will tell. read more

This is a monstrous shopping centre, built in sections over many years (which you can tell very easily). There are a couple of food courts, one which overlooks the curling rink, and the other which has such outlets as Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut. There are many, many shops. There is also a Post Office which is incredibly busy and should not be visited if you are in any sort of a hurry! Parking is not free - there is a bus station. read more

This is one of the best shopping centres I have ever been in. They have so many shops, a great food court and even a ice skating rink. I come to Eastkilbride once a year and I enjoy nothing more then wondering around for hours window shopping and then having a great snack at the food court. They have around 6 different booths, where you can get anything from pizza till Indian. They also have a bingo hall for those who like a little gamble and a picture hosue for you movie lovers. read more

A very big, very long and fairly diverse shopping centre maintained to a good standard. The walk from one end to the other is at least a mile and is East Kilbride's substitute to the high street containing everything from a wee newsagent to a supermarket to the usual high street suspects in clothing and eating. My personal favourites in here are the charity shops which are usually well stocked and not to busy, the food courts are usually quite busy and it's for this reason, along with my abhorrence for fast food that I generally give them a miss, having said that though they do have an attractive variety beyond the bog standard McDonalds and co. variety of Americanised fast food options. Oh yes, and toilets and the such are generally clean and tidy, although there is definite room for improvement here. read more

This is a sprawling shopping centre which easily caters for all your needs under one roof. The origianal shopping centre was extended a few years ago with stores like Debhenams being added. The new parts of the centre are airy and spacious, whilst the older parts feel slightly more cramped, especially as it can get really busy at times. Shopping aside, the centre also has a cinema, an ice rink and 2 food areas. The bus station is at one end of the older part of the centre so public transport needs are easily met. This is my usual shopping centre as it's close to where I work and as near to home as any of the other main ones in the area. In my opinion this is the best shopping centre in the area offering a wide range of shops, not just the usual clothes shops. Parking is free on a Thursday evening and Sunday all day. There are plenty of parking spaces and I've only ever had a problem parking at Christmas. One complaint regarding the parking would be that there is poor pedestrian access to the different parts of the car park which means that people are often forced to walk up and down the ramps, which is dangerous! There are a number of places to eat, including a juice bar, McDonalds, and pizza hut. There's a bingo hall, cinema, ice rink, regular events such as fashion shows. Plenty of cash machines and banks throughout ensure you are never far from a source of cash. It's harsh on the feet and bladder of little ones with roughly a mile from one end to the other but there are plenty of benches and toilets scattered throughout. Toilets are clean and well maintained. In recent years some of my favourite shops have shut down which is a shame and I wonder if rates have gone up as others appear to have moved to less favourable locations in the centre. All in all though, a good shopping experience, everything you might want under one roof. read more

EK is the up and coming town and the town centre is reflecting this. The town centre has recently been renovated and now it is home to some high street stores, for example, it now has a Debenhams, Dune, French Connection, USC, Jane Norman to name but a few. It has everything under the one roof - with a ice rink and a cinema. It has 2 food courts so you're spolit for choice. Parking is not free however very cheap. The centre itself is very clean, good facilities and the people that work there are very friendly. If you haven't been to EK before, its worth coming to the town centre to see the shopping complex for yourself. read more

Now East Kilbride(EK) isn't the nicest of places when walking through this shopping centre it reminded me of small low dying shopping centres like The Piaza(Paisley) or The Forge(Glasgow) shopping centres that only really have a few decent shops and the rest is really shite not quite as bad as the other two mentioned but East Kilbride shopping centre is a step in that direction in my opinion. read more

Everything (or just about), under one roof in various sections. Very often a quick 5 minute trip from Hamilton (or ten minutes on the bus from where I live), to East Kilbride Shopping Centre saves a much longer trip into Glasgow. All the main shops from Debenhams to Marks & Spencers, Banks, Cafes, Electrical and Bookstores and so much more are under one roof. Hard to believe but it is possible to pick up just about every Christmas gift you would need here. There is also a decent sized cinema and ice skating rink for later on. The decor is beginning to look rather tired though, and there isn't enough car parking, but with the bus station just outside one of the doors I find it easier to get the bus. read more

This is East Kilbride shopping centre located in East Kilbride. The centre is split into different zones but when your inside it just runs together so you would never know. The stores including a boots, debenhams, superdrug, small mothercare, wh smith, woolworths, argos, sainsburys and many more. there is a cinema, library and an ice rink. there are two food courts one located at the ice rink and the other at the other end of the centre. There is a lot of parking which is priced reasonably. There is free parking on a Thursday night for late shopping think it starts after 4pm. This centre gets very popular though and parking is not always easy. read more

This is an excellent shopping centre with a large variety of different shops . Good due to the fact that it is undercover and loads of parking. Parking is also really reasonable. Also good selection of places to eat. They have some pubs and cafes but also a food court which serves loads of different types of food from a healthy sandwich to a chinese. If have kids with you there is loads to entertain them as their is an Ice Ring within the shopping centre as well as a cinema. Really like the fact that there is a supermarket as well as means when I am out shopping I can pop in and get a pint of milk without having to stop of on the way home. read more
