Cheap, yes - food seems OK - until you get home and tummy starts to rumble. Toilets were shocking! Won't be going again. Sorry.

Wow, just wow! Why can't this place be in London?!?…read more So I'm banished to Widnes for work, but all is well as I've found this lovely place in Warrington. Reasonably priced dim sum, although I don't know how it compares in price to other places in area to be fair, a good bar with proper cocktails, and live music at times if tonight is anything to go by. (Most dishes are between £3 and £4, with a "gourmet" selection on the back of the checklist that is closer to £7 a dish.) The star is admittedly the dim sum menu... it's a proper check the box dim sum menu that is luckily served at any hour... I've been to too many places that advertise as having dim sum that actually only have a dim sum starter, or worse have a good dim sum menu only available at restricted times. There's your standard fair, but also things a bit more exotics such as stuffed chillies, rib ends with garlic and chilli, asparagus with chilli and garlic, etc... and of course chicken feet, because one must. The place is clean, with a bit of a classy feel to it without being too over the top, and has a good atmosphere with really pleasant staff that do a good job of making you feel welcome. They do have a standard menu, but I doubt I'll ever be able to comment on it! :D If you're in the area for one reason or another and a fan of dim sum then you must make your way here... I already know I'll have an embarrassing amount of check-ins when I'm in town... watch this space.

It has all the cliches, but seems to rise above it all because of the standard of the food and the second-to-none service. I once took my wife there for a celebratory meal (can't remember what we were celebrating, probably catching up with the bills!) and deliberated over the menu for a good while. The head waiter approached and I expected a comment about the time we were taking, but he simply said, I believe madam would be best with... and proceeded to reel off most of what she had been deliberating on. Short of hidden microphones, I think he genuinely remembered our tastes from previous visits. All choices are reasonably priced and served within an acceptable time. It loses a star only for being the predictable, chinese night out of many Warringtonians.

It was not the first to open in Warrington but when it did we considered it to be up market. The food remains just as good the staff just as friendly and I still eat here once a month. The decor is now a little dated and the large fish tank still has c couple of fish in it. Very handy for the new town centre and the business sector.

This is my dress-up-in-the-week place and fab for a Thursday evening when the weekend is looming and you want to get in the partying mood. There is muted lighting and Chinese lanterns everywhere and the decor is vibrant red and gold. Choy Hing Village takes customer service to the next level. Before your meal and in-between each course, the waiters provide you with steaming hot hand towels and after your starter, they cleanse your palate with refreshing lemon sorbet- beautiful! The staff are extremely attentive and almost treat you like royalty as they refuse to let you lift a finger to serve yourself. This is nice for a while but you begin too feel slightly ashamed that you are letting another person almost spoon feed you. And the food!!! Mum and I shared the oriental platter which at £9 per head, I thought was a bit steep, even though the chicken skewers and spare ribs were delicious. As a group of three we had sweet and sour chicken, beef satay and the crispy chilli beef which I would encourage all Yelpers out there to try. Choy Hing Village is more than your local Chinese restaurant, it assumes an air of grandeur and you feel almost honoured to be in its presence. We went on a Thursday night and although the majority of the tables were full, this is such a spacious restaurant that diners do not feel crowded at all. Chinese background music adds to the authenticity of the restaurant and you leave feeling happy and relaxed. It is a takeaway to but the experience actually dining here is too nice to miss. Expect to pay approximately £20 per head here and to have a good time.
