I'd read like, 8000 reviews about this place whilst I was laid up following surgery to fix my achilles. I tried to ignore it (ETC) - I couldn't get to the city for breakfast, heck, I struggled getting to the bay (2 min away). But the urge wouldn't go away, I was hungry. Finally, this past Tuesday, after a successful visit with my surgeon, and the banishing of my AirCast Moon-boot forever (whisper it quietly) I did it. I went to ETC. To be honest, It really wasn't what I expected, from the cafe's website, I'd pictured something a little more clean cut, a little more yuppie. To say I was pleasantly suprised by the super comfortable quirky cafe (a big red wall, blackboards, wooden furniture) interior is an understatement. I was stoked, I felt at home. The menu is well set out and easy to read, however actually picking what I wanted was the hardest decision of my life. To put it in perspective, deciding to have surgery on my achilles and put my life in the doctors hands took me less than 4 seconds. Choosing my breakfast from ETC - easily 8+ minutes. I eventually settled for the Big Brekky option, even though it's usually the last thing I would get. I just wanted to try as much as I could (there was actually a solid spread of tomatoes, mushies and spinach on it). I attended with my darling sister (who actually disowned me and referred to me as 'a friend' in her review of ETC - OUCH), who ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Our food was delicious. The service was very friendly, the staff always smiling and circulating the room to clear tables and make sure everything was alright. Everything was sweet, a great comfy cafe, delicious food and good staff. Oh and we only had to wait like 10mins for our meals. What could possibly make it better... A Chocolate milkshake - in a traditional chilled milkshake glass - with a sweeeeeeeeeet rolled paper barbershop style straw. It was delicious. For any place to put this much effort into a chocolate milkshake is ludicrous, but it's also a tipping point that ensured I wouldn't forget my brekky at ETC easily. Five eskimo's. read more

This place far exceeded my expectations. Staff were very friendly & accommodating, and the atmosphere was relaxed & casual. I sometimes host Meetup.com events & this was a place that for a reservation of 6 people did not ask me for a holding card or fee (because let's face it, you cannot predict if a sudden circumstance means a person or two can't make it, & the venue could easily fill available seats as its a popular spot). The only draw back of the restaurant was it was a little noisy, making it a little hard to hear the more softly spoken of us). I would suggest some sound proofing, even something simple as one of the ladies accompanying me suggested, such as curtains hung from /draped along the ceiling to reduce echo off the ceiling. However it was still cosy & had such a great atmosphere that this would not deter me in future. On to the breakfast/brunch menu... This was filled with all the regular big breakfast items but with gorgeous gourmet twists... Think smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on toast with Beetroot relish, or tomato & ricotta on toast, or poached eggs on warm garlic yoghurt on toast served with sautéed mushrooms. The other big bonus was the fruits & grains menu options, which were trendy, unusual & sumptuous. I had the fresh ricotta & banana with crushed pistachios & walnuts, drizzled with honey. On to the drinks menu... There were the standard drinks, the slightly unusual or more refined options (think masala chai), and finally more unusual options like the fruit tingle smoothie (sounds odd but was amazing, consisting of orange juice, milk, banana, honey & orange sorbet). Seems a bit quiet than normal, too many happenings, can't really complain as the Christmas pageant floats are passing by after the parade, civilized way to watch the pageant?! Food is really good and they do juice which is good because I don't drink coffee! I must hand it to the people at ETC - they sure know how to satisfy a growling stomach. These guys do one of the best big breakfasts you'll find down the east end; and thankfully they churn out the breakfast meals throughout lunch too for those of us who wake up on the wrong side of the bed. The big breakfast has always been an obvious choice for me over the years; it comes with all the usual suspects including eggs (to your liking), sausages, bacon, field mushrooms, tomatoes and hash browns. You simply can't go wrong with a meal of that magnitude, and you won't be wanting anything else for hours after you're done. But ETC have also proven themselves capable of making some pretty mouth-watering lunch meals also. I recommend trying the cotoletta burger for lunch meals. I've yet to try their Friday night dinner menu, but I'm curious to see what they would throw into the mix. This place is bursting at the seams on weekend mornings, so my suggestion is either get there earlier than everybody else, or plan a late breakfast or brunch. Outside is also preferable to the dark indoors; sure, you might be stuck next to a main road, but there's plenty of greenery on the other side. read more

I'm a small eater and my friends and family never let me forget it. Thankfully ETC are much more forgiving and will allow me to order the 'Little Kate' without fear of judgement or ridicule. I eat often, but not a lot, like a bird or a cockroach, and the kids menu is the perfect serving size for me. And only seven dollars! The Little Kate is bacon & egg in a muffin with a hash brown, and the Little Harry is scrambled egg, hash brown and a muffin. But best of all, the Little Brandon: a single cinnamon pancake with vanilla ice cream. I cruised the website the other day and was keenly interested to see they do functions: I had never thought of this before. Kids brunch parties anyone? Five little girls and five little boys eating Little Kate's and Little Brandon's all in a row. And me on the end, chowing on my kiddie breakfast in a little kiddie chair. read more

ETC really is the epitome of a classic sunday brunch, there's not much you can say people haven't already said (I just wanted to give it 5 stars)! I've never had a bad experience here even when they've had such overflow my group had to sit upstairs on the balcony. And you know what, it was even nicer up there! Less chatter and the food came just as quickly. The only down points are that there's usually a line to order due to the popularity or you'll find yourself being placed wherever they can fit you. But on any given sunday this place is just abuzz with life, hangover chatter and full-hearted grub. And the grub is so good. One of the best iced coffees in Adelaide too (hallelujah). read more

The breakfasts here are absolutely worth all the hype. HUGE servings, good value, and all goes down beautifully with a fresh juice and your choice of well-barista'd coffee. I have been coming to ETC for brunches with friends for eons and will continue to come back - the service is good, the food consistently great and the atmosphere buzzing. All that said, there is often a LONG wait for food to arrive (appeased by the fact your liquids have come out long before) particularly when it's busy, on a number of occasions I have waited up to 45mins or food. So, if it's a weekend breakfast or brunch time and your coming with a group - I'd definitely book first. If you're a couple or single and arrive when it's busy - be relaxed about your leaving time; take in some of the ever changing local art works, flick through the plentiful stress press and fliers....and perhaps take a book ;-) read more

Awesome food and the best and least boring all-day breakfast menu I've come across in this fair city. I've been here a few times and have always had excellent service from the staff and enjoyed my food immensely. The Duchess from the brekkie menu is huge and delicious, and the need for additional sides of toast and a hash brown was purely for extra enjoyment. They also do regular lunch of burgers, pasta, panini and the like but I just can't tear myself away from the all day brekkie! read more

I'd been spying this place for is diverse breakfast menu for sometime, and finally my chance came to try it! I ordered my fave - eggs Benedict and while it wasn't the best I've had, it was good! The eggs weren't quiet runny enough but I loved the addition of tomato under my ham! The staff were friendly and the meals came out nice and swiftly, especially considering it was a busy Saturday afternoon! My friend ordered 'the works' and it looked pretty good too - think I might have to order that next time...or pancakes...they looked great too! Suffice to say, I'll be back! This place is great for flexibility with large groups. We were booked for 10.30 on a Sunday morning and after a wedding the night before, getting everyone there on time was difficult. We were able to order at the counter and pay individually and food came to the table seperate my like we had asked. That way the people on time didn't have to wait for the late comers. I order the eggs benny but bacon instead of ham. I was a little disappointed that I had to pay $3.90 extra and got 2 pieces on my plate, when I had walked past another table that looked like they ordered it as a side and had a big plate of bacon..... I know this place does an awesome breakfast, but my last experience at the ETC was lunch, which I hadn't had there before. I had high expectations, because as everyone seems to be saying, their breakfasts are absolutely fantastic. I wasn't disappointed. I had a chicken burger which was so nice, I was tempted to buy another and force it down my throat and into my already very full tummy. Always impressed with the coffee here, and eggs (scrambled, poached or omletted) are always cooked really well. They do a few versions of eggs benedict, baked eggs and scrambles that will cater to every taste, and banana pancakes that will knock your socks off! My most recent visit I had the baked salmon omlette with goats cheese, pine nuts and rocket. It was a little too salty due to the ingredients, but tasty nonetheless. Thick toast was unbuttered and the serve so big I could hardly finish. Banana mango 'Go-go' juice was a great morning drink too. Service was friendly and very quick - the staff did not miss a beat even with all of us ordering extras (in my case, a crisp, pleasantly greasy hash brown - yum!). ETC don't mess around -- they have a generous selection of favourites as well as a 10 item special board, and there is something for everyone. It is a favourite med student and junior doctor haunt, which is possibly the best recommendation it can possibly be given, insofar as alluding to its quality, efficiency and price. Only downside is that if you are sitting outside on hot Summer days near the North Terrace end, the dumpsters in the alley beside ETC tend to waft offensive odours towards you which is unideal. Decided to hold on the review until after several trips and experiences could be compiled. This review is on relative terms - relative to what is available in this cafe-rich corner of the CBD. Food is OK, nothing is spectacular (menu available online, check it out), probably the best dish has been the chicken sandwich. It is a busy place, ETC certainly has a following (people book tables for 2 for breakfast! WTF!). However, portions are small relative to the price - and more importantly - relative to the neighboring competition. I would really love to make this my go-to place; people are nice, atmosphere is there, however the food and drinks do not lure me in. Bottom line, on a weekend morning if I decide to have breakfast in this area of town I I often choose some other place because ETC - "Meh, I 've experienced better". PS - The bus stop outside unfortunately does not help and ETC are trying to change the stop, but I am afraid it would probably affect some other business if it is relocated. read more

My boss introduced me to this place at christmas. It is very friendly and chilled out and reminds me of a town in the UK called Brighton. I think that breakfasts are their speciality. They also do burgers (which are huge!), sandwiches, salads and a big variety of juices and drinks. I had a great green detox juice and chicken salad. ETC is a large, open, breezy breakfast/lunch eatery on the East End of Adelaide. I really like the French toast with apple and cinnamon - I can't eat that much for breakfast, so this meal is just right for me, but I do love me a hearty lunch, and this place does lunch pretty well. I love sitting outside with a fresh OJ on a crisp Sunday morning (crisp?) and enjoying the fresh air Adelaide has to offer, which we so often take for granted by the way! My great breakfast love of Adelaide! The bacon and scrambled eggs are divine, served with thick, butter-smothered toast and seasoned to perfection. It's also very reasonably priced for the quality and quanitity of the serves. You have two menus to choose from - the brekkie menu served from 7am-3pm and the lunch menu available from 11am-3pm. My favourite is to sit alfresco under a big red umbrella overlooking the east parklands. This place rocks for Sunday (or anyday) brunch. However good luck finding a free table at peak times - it'll pay to book ahead. Also due to the packed house expect a line 10ft long at the counter to order. Make sure you try the fresh squeezed-to-order juice varieties, they're not cheap but pack a vitamin filled punch of fruity goodness. In a nutshell - better than Breakfast at Tiffany's! read more

I love you East Terrace Continental. When I was Staying just off Rundle street, this place really quashed my hangovers when I woke up on a Sunday afternoon craving Eggs Benedict and nothing else. All day breakfast is what I'm saying, complete with a big glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a side of field mushrooms. Gosh yes. Well...all day until 3pm, so make sure you stumble out of bed at least an hour before then and you should make it. The service is fast and friendly and there are newspapers available for your reading pleasure. There is outdoor seating as well so you can whack on a pair of shades and watch the world go by as you wait for your meal. East Terrace Continental is homely and healthy and is also the best hangover cure that I know of. I've never booked a table here but I think I've just been lucky, it's usually pretty busy so booking a table couldn't hurt. read more

Not at all a bad option for lunch. East Terrace Continental is a nice roadside setting, which is especially enjoyed during a nice day whilst slightly covered by the shady vines on the sidewalk. I have only ever had lunch here and after reading the other two reviews I have to say that I am tempted on tagging along for breakfast too. Not being the most adventurous type, I have always stuck to the burgers. The chicken burger is probably the way to go over the beef. I am also curious about the soups of the day. Any good anyone? ETC makes pancakes that will make you sign your soul over to the devil. Whilst a few of my fellow Yelper's have pointed out some of the other excellent qualities of this fine dining establishment, none have highlighted the amazing-ness that is their banana pancakes. Served on the breakfast menu which is available almost all day, one bite and you too will decide that they are the best pancakes you have ever had in your entire life. Unless of course you are a banana hater, than this review is totally lost on you. Book a table because it can get very crowded, and order yourself a serve of the pancakes. The portion comes with two large pancakes with the banana cooked into them, all lying in a pool of hot caramel sauce. And if that wasn't enough to give you a heart attack, they give you a side jug of cream as well to top it off. There is a berry variety as well which I have seen before but not tried, but I just cannot go past the banana. The coffee is also really good, as is there huge range of fresh juices and smoothies. I had my first visit to ETC yesterday and was very impressed. I went in for a late brunch with a friend. The atmosphere and decor inside is warm and inviting and the food was delicious. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and couldn't fault it. The eggs were creamy and smooth, and the salmon a perfect accompaniment. I skipped the asparagus that is part of the dish on the menu so I can't comment on that. The fresh juice was also delicious, and served delightfully in a milkshake glass with a stripy straw. The service was very friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The pricing was also very reasonable. I'm looking forward to returning to try out more tasty dishes. read more

This is a great place to eat at. Prices are not cheap but you do get good value. The staff are friendly and helpful; the place is always buzzing; the ambience is good. Always busy but this place delivers healthy, fresh and fast. Great range of juices and healthy salad options, as well as delicious wraps and foccacias. Has most things you would want from a lunch spot. The bathroom does leave a bit to be desired though and the tables aren't always bussed promptly. If you would like to wait a long time then told they did not put your order through, come to this place. I have waited for 50 mins to have a pumpkin focaccia. The cafe was not crowed and I was told they forgot to put order through. I did not even get an apology. I had to wait another 15 mins to get my food. The roast pumpkin inside was ice cold. Had Brunch at ETC Sunday morning and to say it ws busy was an understatement. Inside & out was full but the very friendly staff managed to find us a table, next time we will book online or ring first. The coffee was small but strong and not burnt or too hot. Our meals came out very quickly considering how busy they were. The Works was good value and I enjoyed it and would go back again but I won't rave about it compared to others I have had. The Baked Omelette was the same according to my wife, had plenty in it, tasted good but not exceptional. The staff, the ambience, service & food make it a great place to enjoy breakfast, brunch or lunch as long as you don't want it quiet as it is full of happy, talkative people who know a good place when they see one. read more

When it was brought out it left me in awe, how did they craft such a picture-eqse plate of bacon, eggs as you like them, sausage, mushrooms, hash brown, tomato served on sliced focaccia bread. Please take French Toast OFF your menu. The bacon was barely cooked (traditionally should be crunch), the toast flavorless (cinnamon would be an easy addition), and the banana that was thrown on top was COLD straight from a fridge (any thought to possibly frying it..). By far the worst french toast in Adelaide. Normally this is a favourite eatery but not today.... Maybe the passion for providing excellent food has escaped you. read more
