Preceding the covid, there was general neglect and lack of care. The manager and head nurse are the most ineffective and do not give a crap about your family members, which is obvious since they can't be bothered to reach out when someone under their care passes away. Also if you actually read the positive reviews- you'll see a theme in that a vast majority are from people who work there or visit but don't actually have a family member living at The Knolls. Every time they get a negative review they probably ask their staff to make a positive one.

This is an expensive facility and we trusted their food services were good if not great. The sales person certainly promised this to my Mother in front of me and my siblings as we toured the facilities. For the money senior clients pay to live there, they should do MUCH better with their food service as it is the highlight of many senior's day And should be healthy. Mother has spoken with The Knolls (outgoing) Director with no acceptable answers. Needless to say, we are now looking at other places for her to live. What a huge disappointment the leadership here cannot hire a good chef with some obvious experience with seniors and caring food servers.

I've also been in 'caring' professions for over 30 years. The first thing I noticed at Parsons House was how long people have worked there. The direct care staff turnover rate is low, and a lot of staff have worked there for a long time. THIS IS UNHEARD OF IN THIS FIELD. It's what I strive for in my own business, and it telling of a positive place to work, and greatly increases the quality of services due to the experience of the employees. My mom moved into Parsons House about a little over one year ago. The move was rocky. Her memory was pretty bad, and despite wanting to move, she kept forgetting. Parsons house was great with the move. They supported her, me and the rest of my family through this difficult time. Understandably, my mom did not want to lose her independence. While they do laundry for people there, they forwent their own protocols and allowed her to do her laundry, and as her abilities decline, they are helping her with this, but she's still doing it, herself. She wanted to continue to self administer her own medications. They completed an assessment for this and, again forwent their own protocols, she was administering her own meds, and they allowed me to use the pharmacy my company uses, which was great. As time went on, I (as medical POA) decided she couldn't self administer her medications. This transition has been difficult, not because of Parson's House, but because of the pharmacy they had been using. I'm not going to get into the logistics of this, but I'll just say the pharmacy messed up her billing and did not bill insurance, personally charging her. The pharmacy was not following through to fix the problem. This was not Parsons House's issue, but they wanted to help. I didn't think there was anything they could do, but one of the nurses called the pharmacy and...I have no idea how...got the pharmacy to start working on fixing the issue. They also mentioned they are looking at different options for pharmacies. I didn't ask them to do this, they just recognized an issue and were already processing a solution. Not only have they worked hard for the quality of services they provide for my mom, they have consistently gone well over what they were responsible for. At Parsons House they not only do what's needed, but what's right, which warms my heart.

This is a rather long review and if I could give zero stars I would! My wife was injured on the…read morejob and placed on workers compensation. She had a previous fusion so was very worried that something was wrong with that. MRI revealed it was a bulged disc at the level above the previous fusion and thought light duty and pt would help it. After 5 months with symptoms getting worse, an X-ray revealed an additional problem that required an additional fusion. The problem with this is, due to preexisting degeneration, they are saying it was only made worse and aggravated from additional stress from the injury and pt. Work comp didn't want to pay for the surgery so they forced her to have an independent medical evaluation with Dr Gill. Here's where the zero stars comes in.... When we entered the office, Dr Gill was not overly friendly and was very business like. He had a clipboard with her medical records and sat there writing things down as she explained her symptoms and the injury. He did very minimal tests to question the numbness and burning in her legs. Also, disregarded the fact that she had a vertebrae moving around in her back causing more pain and damage. After about 8 minutes he looked at us and said he had all he needed and someone would get back to us. Her IME was total crap to the point that you know all he was wanting to do is say work comp was not responsible. He stated she was observed to be obese (which she is NOT!) with a BMI of 23.8. Of course, being obese puts more strain on her condition. He also stated that it was only a sprain and she had reached maximum improvement and was cleared to go back to work without restrictions. Keep in mind, she lifts packages up to 70 lbs and has to maneuver packages up to 150 lbs by herself. Dr Gill did not display a caring manner and did not care about the pain my wife was in. Ironically, his diagnosis was completely wrong as it wouldn't be possible for her to return to work. She met with her primary Dr and just 2 weeks later, she had a surgery that took almost 5 hours to fix everything that was wrong. I know that work comp is the main problem here, however, I believe Dr Gill had his mind made up before we even met. Due to his wording in the report stating she was cleared to return to work, not only did she get kicked off workers comp, she is also having trouble qualifying for short term disability. It was quite obvious he works in favor of Work Comp. Had he at least acknowledged her condition, this whole thing could have been a better experience. BEWARE!

FirstCare Home Health Ha! What a name!…read more I was a client of FirstCare for about 22 years. When I started with FirstCare they really did care about their clients and their attendants. Their attendants were being paid $17 dollars an hour during the week, and $19 dollars on the weekends. The owners would cover open visits. Heck, I even let FirstCare take care of MY own Grandmother. Then 10 years ago FirstCare went from being the best agency in Lincoln NE to SHIT. Suddenly the owners stopped caring about their attendants. FirstCare cut all of the attendant's pay down to $11 dollars an hour. They were treating their clients like shit. In the office the staff openly will gossip about their clients and attendants. Whenever we (the clients) would complain about something and we were to either deal with it or leave. To make a long story short If you do choose FirstiCare be prepared for no calls and no one showing up for some of your visits, or late attendants, because the schedulers in office overbook the attendants, or the office will tell you that you have to find somebody else to help you because no one on your team can come. If you can't find anybody else yourself they will leave you in your wheelchair over night, or they will ask you if they can come early. If you have a social life you won't anymore. FirstCare DOES NOT CARE! I currently left FirstCare and I'm a lot happier.

The staff has been so kind and caring! They get to know him as a person and tell me how intelligent and funny he is! His favorite place to be is in the dining room! I remember one time I took him to a doctor appointment (by choice - their transportation policy is AWESOME) and asked him if he wanted to go to a restaurant afterward. He chose to go home to eat with his buddies instead! :) I was shocked! Off and on there were a couple aids that you could tell truly cared. Unfortunately, most of them were punching a time clock. I had certain requests for the safety of my mother, but they were often, not carried out resulting in her falling multiple times. I feel it is a direct result of the management. And the recent change has caused many of the good people to leave and seek employment elsewhere. I was specifically promised things that ended up being denied to my mother. And I was outright lied to about two incidents involving accidents with my mother. Now is not the time to choose Heritage for your loved one if they need specific attention. We were finally told they could not handle her and were only given 3 days to move her. We were told we could have 5 days, but ended up being charged. If anything is negotiated, get it in writing. Management will deny what you were told.
