I had explained in multiple chats with multiple representatives (Josh, Alyson, Miles, etc.) tons of details on what I was trying to accomplish including stating I could authorize everything electronically in terms of preplanning so they could confirm before I drive over and potentially waste my and their time. All said "sure...we can work with you on that". Got there, shown car, discussed my goals (AGAIN) .....and then "oh we can't do that." I have dealt with bait/switch before but this was ridiculous. Don't waste your time. Thus was not simply a difference if pricing negotiations....it was failure to understand everything....every detail I had provided and my desired outcomes.

I completely forgot to come back and add the epilogue to the sordid tale…read more After Greenway Hyundai had supposedly resolved the new oil leak that had only subsequently started after their month-long recall service, they assured me it was just a loose drain plug, and that it wouldn't happen again. This was a lie and they knew it, as I would later discover. Almost immediately the car started leaking oil again just like before. But instead of taking it back to them, I took it to a trustworthy local car repairman I know, who showed me the extent of the damage they had done. First, when they tightened the drain plug to supposedly fix the oil leak, they over-tightened it, crushing the gasket inside, which ironically caused it to leak even worse. But that wasn't even the real culprit to begin with. All along, the real issue was a slapdash job replacing the head gasket. I watched him take apart the engine with forensic determination. The head gasket had been replaced, BUT the valve cover was put back on improperly, leading to the gasket itself being deformed and allowing oil to leak around the edges. The bolts on the valve cover are supposed to be tightened to a specific torque and in a specific order. Half of the bolts were not anywhere near the proper torque, and some of them were so loose the mechanic could unscrew them WITH HIS BARE HAND. This is unbelievably irresponsible of Greenway's mechanics. Had they bothered to take five minutes to remove the engine cover and look, they would have seen the oil visibly leaking from around the valve cover. They would have known something was wrong, and would have likely been obligated to fix it. Instead, they overtightened the oil drain plug, sending me home with the same problem, now somehow made even worse thanks to a flawed assumption and a lazy "fix". My mechanic installed another new head gasket to replace the deformed one ruined by Greenway's service department, and properly torqued down the valve cover. He also installed a new drain plug, which also necessitated changing the oil again. The whole process took just one afternoon and I haven't had so much as a drop of oil leak since. The "free" Hyundai corporate factory recall service ended up costing me a month of time and a few hundred dollars out of pocket. I don't know if they're duplicitous or just incompetent, but either way they have proven they cannot be trusted with your vehicle.
