Incredibly, there is a service in Prague that provides the truffles for local restaurants, and they offer demonstrations of a real truffle-hunting dog at work! Absolute fascinating how the dog is trained (using 100% positive reinforcement) and just incredible to see the wonderful nose-work! Ooh, and they gave us dinner at the end (with wonderful pasta with truffles!)

We weren't surprised to learn he's been featured on TV and radio, but we were still impressed that in only 3 years Petr has become the #1 truffle supplier in the Czech market by working collaboratively with other truffle hunters across Europe. And Nela is a key partner of course! She's an eager, happy, beautiful dog. But about truffles - the industry is far more interesting than we would have expected, and you'll enjoy learning about it. I had mistakenly expected we were going to be hunting truffles out in the forest, but Petr explained how arduous and uncertain that would have been, so the truffle hunting demonstration was actually much better. And we enjoyed discussing politics and life with Petr over our truffle lunch, which was quite tasty. I'm looking forward to making truffle meals with our gifted truffles when we get back home, and I'll remember Petr and Nela fondly every time I taste truffles from now on. I think the problem is that the narration is already recorded and is played as the bus rolls along. Because of traffic, the bus and the narration are not in synch. So the narrator will tell you to look left to see XYZ building and you look left to see nothing or to see lots of buildings - and which one is it? So my bottom line on this tour is that I'm glad I took it but I was terribly frustrated because I didn't learn much. For 90 minutes, this frustration builds and at the end, I was very happy to exit the tour bus.

Our guide Seema is knowledgeable, and provides a lot of interesting tidbits along the way, without getting too much into history or detail. She is also well prepared, bringing along a book to illustrate the subject. Really appreciate her suggestions of places that we can visit after the tour, as well as restaurants to try and local specialties to order. At the end of the tour, she stayed to answer any question the tourists have from where to get lunch to money exchange. We only did a day trip to Dresden, and this tour helped us get the most out of our day, so we could enjoy every minute of our brief visit.
