Take this tour! I had a few goals in mind when looking for a food tour: small group, authentic, knowledgable, and tasty. George accomplished all of this and more. George is professional, personable and knowledgable. He explained the origin of each dish and taught us how to eat like a local. He would also pepper in stories about Czech history, culture, art, and its people. He made sure to take us by several landmarks and explained their significance, like Vinok and Hanging Man. But it didn't stop once the tour ended. George took notes of things the group said and sent us follow up recipes, restaurant recommendations, and points of interest to visit. My husband and I hit the ground running going on the Scrumptious Food Tour in the morning of our first day in Prague (3-4 hours in an up and coming neighborhood outside the city center, 86 EUR per person and well worth it all). We left with a wealth of knowledge from our lovely tour guide Leona both food & culture, ate/drank like kings and queens (4 stops) and received countless recommendations with a map at the end of our tour which was helpful for the rest of our trip as a guide. I'm not one to sign up for an organized tour, but I kept reading glowing things about Prague Food Tours that I decided to do it. It was my very first visit to Prague and knowing very little about Czech cuisine, I was hoping to learn about regional dishes and get a good overview to the area's foodie scene. Turns out, this was one of the very best food-centric things I've ever done anywhere in the world. Booking our tour was easy and fast. The price and meeting location were both made clear. George was our guide and showed up right on time. We were in a very small group with two other single travelers, a woman from Ireland and a man from Australia. This super small group meant we had personal attention from George and we instantly became fast friends because we all shared a love of one thing: food! Our tour hit many of the highlights in the city as well, with easy walking and George eager to point out some of the city's most famous sites along the way. The food options were plentiful and unlike some other food tours, I didn't go hungry! We basically had full meals at each of our four stops. Each establishment offered something new and different, from a swanky old school restaurant to a beer hall to a craft cocktail bar to a place for bar snacks and dessert. There was plenty of variety of both food and booze, and it was easy to customize if you didn't want to eat something. I would say that this tour would be tough for vegetarians or vegans, but it would still maybe be doable with some advanced planning. At each restaurant, George handled the ordering and payment for us so we totally just got to sit back and enjoy eating and learning. It was smooth and seamless, an easy and carefree evening. Another thing I loved about George is that he didn't resort to food shaming like some other food tour guides sometimes do. Of course most people who would go through the trouble of booking a foodie tour would be adventurous eaters who will try anything, but there is always that one person who refuses to eat a certain dish for whatever personal reason. At one stop, we had a member of the group not too keen on trying steak tartare and instead of shaming her into taking "just one bite," George ordered her something else with no big fanfare. Although it wasn't me, I appreciated how he handled that with grace and style. George was a fantastic guide. He spoke perfect English and had a pleasant, jovial attitude. He felt like an instant friend, eager to learn about customs in our country as well as answering all of our questions about his childhood and of course, food! I feel like I left this tour with a knowledge that made me very well versed in the cuisine of the Czech Republic, and that was my ultimate goal! At the end of the tour, we paid the remainder of our tour fee to George in cash and we got a cute little goodie bag that included a pre-stamped postcard that we could mail to our friends back home and a printed list of all the venues we visited as well as the dishes we sampled. This was super helpful and a wonderfully useful surprise. One thing that would've been really nice is maybe a list of popular foods and the translation for them. It's difficult to order food in Prague if you're going to a local place because not much is in English. I realize this is a foreign country and that's the way it should be, but a foodie dictionary for those of us who don't speak the language would've been so awesome. George taught us so much about the beer culture, the food history, holiday traditions and more. His enthusiasm for his city and food is contagious. I recommend you book this tour for your first evening in Prague because you'll get all kinds of insider tips about where to go and how to do things. This tour is expensive but worth every penny. She was also very accommodating regarding food preferences ( vegetarian.)We met on Christmas Day for our tour with two other lovely families. I did this with the family. They loved it! Since Praha is sort of a home base for me I found it a bit too touristy and pricey. We had about 8 different stops on 3-4 hours with a little bit of everything included. This covers Lesser Townestablishments in Prague, which is my favorite part of the city. Last week we had the pleasure of having Leona take us on her Prague Food Tour and it was a fabulous experience and the highlight of our whole trip! The food tour was well organized with 4 stops and many conversations during and in between the stops. Leona clearly explained at each stop about the restaurant and the food being served and the history of why it's a Czech tradition. We got to sample foods, snacks, deserts, drinks, beer, wine and so much more that it was good thing we walked so much! She also shared highlights of the city as we walked making it a city tour in addition to the food tour. Leona gave us maps and suggestions for other restaurants and things to see that I wish we had booked this on our first day in the city rather than the last day! She is just a delightful person and made our tour memorable. I would give her tour 10 stars if I could and highly recommend it to everyone who visits Prague. We just returned from Prague where we spent a fabulous evening with Lorena on a Prague Food Tour. There were 4 of us on the tour and it couldn't have been better. Lorena and George are the owners/guides of their own tour company. They carefully curated the restaurants/food for their guests to give you varied experiences. We sampled modern and traditional Czech cuisine, experienced a raucous beer hall with "snacks" and finished the evening in a charming cafe. We walked through all different neighborhoods. What a wonderful, wonderful evening in Prague! I booked this tour for my boyfriend's 30th birthday on our first night in the city (August 2016). I would definitely recommend booking on the early end of your trip, if possible, because you walk away with a lot of ideas for what to do in the following days. The food was awesome, but honestly, it was the host that made the tour a truly special experience. Leona is friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. I loved how discussions of the current social and political climate were woven effortlessly into the evening. It is really nice to walk away from a tour feeling like you actually have a better understanding of the beautiful city you are visiting. Our night started out in the rain, which I though would ruin the trip for sure, but once we were inside munching and sipping, we completely forgot about the weather (it did clear up pretty quickly though). I'm not sure if the venues are supposed to be a surprise, so I will just say that we visited four different spots that were all very different in ambience and offerings. We were incredibly full at the end of the tour, so pace yourself! I would especially recommend this for a special occasion -- one of our stops was a beer hall, and they turned out the lights and sang happy birthday to my boyfriend. Such an amazing time (about 5 hours worth) with our guide. She talked about the history and lifestyle of the Czech Republic and most importantly took us around the city to try various food and snacks and fancy drinks and amazing beers. The tour consisted of about 6 people total so it made it more of a conversation rather than one of those walking tours that you just tag along. We just got back from an amazing European family vacation that included Ireland, Prague, and Italy. We all agree, without exception, that George's Prague Food Tour was the absolute highlight of the entire trip!!! Immediately after, we recommended it to two families who were going to Prague later this summer. I went on this food tour in April of 2018. I have never taken a food tour before but I am glad that my friend signed us up! It was one of the highlights of my visit. I loved all four places that we visited, especially the beer hall. It has the best food of any bar I have ever visited. There was some sort of fermented cheese that was soooooo good. It also had a very pleasant atmosphere. All beer tastes the same to me so I can't really speak to the beer quality, but the place was packed. George was extremely friendly and engaging and was a fount of knowledge about the Czech Republic and Prague. I am a vegetarian but there was still plenty of stuff for me, and George was very nice about making sure that I had something that I liked. read more

We recently (August 2016) had the pleasure of participating in the Prague Food Tour hosted by George and Leona. They made it a highlight of our trip to Prague. Their enthusiasm for the food scene in Prague made them wonderful guides and the variety of food and drink was excellent. The only caveat is that Prague is a walking city and we did a fair amount of walking between venues. However, they made accommodation for a member of our group with limited mobility so don't let that be a problem--just let them know in advance so they can adjust accordingly. We were a group of 10 which is just about the maximum that is appropriate for this kind of intimate tour. We started at 6:00 pm with dessert first at the lovely landmark restaurant the Savoy. George and Leona discussed the food and the history of the restaurant. This was followed by cocktails at a local cocktail bar mixed by an expert mixologist. He plied us with tasty cocktails while he entertained us with explaining the ingredients and their history. In a very relaxed mood we then walked on to the next stop through scenic Old Town Prague. This was a classic Czech beer hall, about a mile long and filled with young Czech's having a good time. . We sampled local beer snacks such as pickled cheese and steak tartare along with our Czech pilsner, surrounded by boisterous groups of young Czechs. The finale was a main course at one of Prague's older and lovely traditional restaurants. By the time we were done,by 11:00 pm we were full and happy. We could barely waddle back to our lodging. She is personable, knowledgable, and makes this a unique experience for each of her customers. We had a group of six of us, joined by another three from England. At the end of our two weeks in Europe, all of us agreed that Prague Food Tour was the highlight of the trip. We ate at four establishments, having traditional entrees and a wonderful soup at the first (along with a glass of Czech wine). Stop two was a very long beer hall where we learned about beer culture, beer pours and sampled beer side dishes. Stop three was a sampling of three craft cocktails made from Czech liquors, and stop four was a sample of Czech coffee (like British high tea, but with different types of sandwiches and desserts). Leona was enthusiastic, engaging, personable and knowledgeable. Before our trip to Europe, she sent a list of ideas for activities to do in and around Prague, and at the end of the tour, we were given a bag with a map highlighting cafes, restaurants and bars in the area, a list of the foods we had tried, and a postcard. We spent a Monday afternoon with Leona and a small group of strangers, sampling the traditional food and rink of Prague. I have to admit I was a little skeptical about this whole thing; I had traveled to several countries and frankly never enjoyed this sort of thing. Boy, was I in for a treat. My husband and two daughters (15 & 21) took the Prague Food Tour on our second night in Prague over Christmas week 2016. We absolutely LOVED our tour; it was definitely a highlight of our trip. George was our host; he was charming and very informative about not only Czech food but also Czech history and culture. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful - start with an empty stomach and pace yourself! We were happy to discover tasty foods we otherwise might not have ordered on our own. The venues were varied, including bar hall, cafe, fine restaurant, etc. We especially appreciated the interesting cocktails, including an absinth drink (the bartenders made special non-alcoholic drinks for our 15 year old so she could participate in the fun). Afterwards, George was kind enough to send us a recipe of a dish we all enjoyed and gave us a map of Prague highlighting other recommended places to eat (we tried a couple - they were great!).
