If you are looking for an affordable Japanese restaurant, Eat Tokyo is your best bet in London. The food was decent. Their toro was kind of disappointing because it had a few tendons; just not one would expected with toro. Service was kind of slow. I will recommend you to make a reservation if you can. The one in Covent garden won't take reservation, so, we booked a table at Eat Tokyo in SOHO. Please bear in mind, there is a minimum charge of $25 per head in this particular one. We came here looking for sushi and was recommended this place by our hotel concierge. I have since told the concierge not to recommend this restaurant anymore. This place was dirty, and the food had no taste, except for being too salty. We ordered 4 rolls, dumplings, tea, and water. We had to remind the waiter of one of the rolls and the drinks we had ordered. The bathrooms are filthy, the floor was wet, no toilet paper holder, and the sinks were some of the dirtiest I've seen in a restaurant with hair everywhere and dirt everywhere on the sink. If this establishment doesn't care about the sanitation and cleanliness of the bathroom, I imagine the cleanliness of where the food is prepared isn't much better. There are plenty of other options in this area for food. Go somewhere else. read more

Cheap eats doesn't always work out to be a good meal but in this case, it was. Lunch specials start at only £9 for a bento and the portion is enough for a substantial meal. The menu is large - choose from sushi, rolls, tempura, soba, tonkatsu, teriyaki, salmon, donburi, etc. I was happy with my bento's quality - tasty miso soup, salad with dressing, lots of rice, pickles and your choice of main (one or two). The star was actually the fried tofu which was soft on the inside, a slight crisp shell soaked in soy dashi and topped with wakame. I left full and happy! On the down side, staff need to work on their customer service. Definitely not the traditional customer-first attitude most Japanese restaurants provide. I also had to ask for more water as no one checked on me mid-meal. Decor is minimal and you literally walk through the crowded kitchen to get to the seating area. We booked for reservation and we specifically mentioned that we have a person with disability with us for 8:15pm in the Covent Garden branch. We arrived there 10minutes before the time we booked and still made us wait for about 30minutes which means they didnt even reserve us a table in the first place. Finally they let us in, the server or manager gave us seats upstairs! With a disabled person! We declined and asked for seats on the ground floor, its not a hidden disability she has a cane and is clearly struggling the worst part is that he was forcing us to come up stairs saying "its only two flights up" I couldn't believe it. Whats the point of booking for reservation when they still make you wait and they said that they can accommodate our request on the phone earlier today in the first place but clearly that was ignored. Absolute little gem of a sushi place. Hidden off the maim road in nottinghill, a two.minute walk from the station. When you walk in you would be forgiven for thinking this is a small takaway shop but the tavles are through the back. We were.led.by a friendly waitress in colourful kimino. You csn see the sushi checs busy st work in the open kitchen area. Whilst this place is a little cramped it really is worth it. The fish tastes extremely fresh and the salmon and tuna sashimi were melt in the mouth. I found the tempura vegetables a little flavourless and the dipping sauce for it didn't have much taste however this is my only complaint. The fried seafood dumplings were delectable and a bargain at £3 for 4. I am a bit of a spicy tuna maki aficionado and the standard here is good. The plum wine was sweet and delicious too! With lots of sushi restaurants vying for business I really feel that this place is a cht above the rest. read more

Having walked past Eat Tokyo countless time believing it was little more than a takeaway counter, I finally ventured in and was amazed by the fairly spacious restaurant in the back. Nothing fancy and not exactly minimalist Japanese. The menu covers everything from shushi and tempura to bento boxes and is almost a bit overwhelming. Perhaps lucky then that most cooked food was unavailable due to a major repairs to the gas mains outside. We ended up with a random selection of raw and fried foods - all delicious. I will definitely visit there again sometime especially when I get homesick..haha The taste is quite same as food in Japan! They use some typical Japanese ingredients like SHISO(Japanese herb)! Each plate, Donburi and Jyu is very volumy so all of us got full after we ate half of them. The price is good! Even dinner it costs around £16 per person! Stunning Japanese food at reasonable prices- I've finally found the real deal in west London! On the same street as the more famous "Feng Sushi" and very close to the new enormous "Itsu" in Notting Hill Gate- I've just eaten the best California Rolls I've had in London! I also had edamame and a wonderful spicy squid and a coke for just £10! The chef and staff are Japanese and they are clearly very proud of the food they serve and the way they serve it. The chef appears to have quite a history of awards and the fact everything is in Japanese with smaller English print (sometimes!) underneath speaks volumes about their target market- London's resident Japanese population (and anyone else with a sense of curiousity or adventure!). They also seem to do very reasonable take away lunches for about £4.50. Well worth a visit-I'll probably be back once a week at least! read more

I wouldn't recommend the spicy rolls because I think they have cayenne pepper on the outside of the role which doesn't go that well but all of the other rolls were delicious! The decor is very standard, basic, but clean. The menu is massive, so many options, which is wonderful. I am a sashimi lover and I was pleased to see all the choices. I opted for a seaweed and cucumber salad and the yellow tail sashimi. My salad was light and delicious. I was most surprised how tasty the sashimi was. My man opted for a sushi cut and hand roll, which supposedly was good as well. The only problem I had with Eat Tokyo was the slow service. It took our food forever to come out and they brought out my food first and then waited about 10 minutes to bring out my man's, which was a bit strange. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, and the sushi absolutely delicious. I would come here again. Fun-entertainment for the evening: I had two girls in deep "therapy" right next to me discussing their woeful love life. Although extremely amusing, and also pitifully sad, it didn't detour us from enjoying our food. Affordable sushi and other stuff (very extensive menu), a bit off the beaten path, nice staff, hole-in-the-wall, neighborhoody atmosphere. Ooh, cheap and good Japanese restaurant! I've been here a couple of times (admittedly both times after drinking, but that's beside the point). Eat Tokyo is a fairly cosy and basic restaurant and, if you're in a large-ish group, you may get put in one of the karaoke rooms downstairs. I didn't really recognise any of the artists that they were offering (Harry Love, anyone?), but it was immaterial as I was the only real keen karaoke-er there. The menu is pretty big and can be daunting if you're not so familiar with Japanese food. I've had the katsu curry here which was decent and generously sized; last time I tried some of their sushi - my assorted sashimi bowl had tuna, salmon, mackerel, octopus, and what I think was amberjack. The fish was generally pretty tasty - a lot better than a lot of sushi places in the same price bracket. The takoyaki (octopus balls) are also good here - plenty of delicious brown sauce dressing (I don't know the name, but it's incredible). Whilst not a world beater, Eat Tokyo's great, especially since it falls into the value range of Japanese restaurants. So, next time you're in the area and heading to Wagamama...give Eat Tokyo a try instead. read more

Since I moved to London, I have been looking for a go-to sushi spot that isn't too pricey and has fresh, quality sushi with a menu that has both authentic rolls as well as some fusiony/inventive rolls. So far, Eat Tokyo is the best place to satisfy all of those wants. Eat Tokyo is a small restaurant situated just off the hustle and bustle of Notting Hill Gate. They have an extensive menu that should satisfy sushi and non-sushi eaters alike. The fish is fresh and the items are priced reasonably by London standards. Something that I also really enjoyed is this didn't seem like sushi place catering to Londoners in the city. I honestly feel like I'm back home in California when I come here, in a cozy sushi joint frequented mostly by regulars and locals. I think that's the best about it honestly. In addition to the food and the vibe, the service is very good. They are very attentive, but also not rushing out out of your seats (even though this place does get very busy during dinnertime). I would highly recommend if you're looking for some good fresh sushi that won't break the bank. read more

Don't know what the hype is. Chirashi had subpar quality fish with a piece of tuna that has a very slight color unevenness that was very slightly falling apart (a sign it's not fresh). The sashimi was of much better quality but in a good restaurant they should never serve questionable quality raw fish in another dish that was of a lower profit margin/price. You should just use the parts of fish that is cheaper or just give less. But never use lower quality (I.e. Older less fresh). Most of the menu was typical Westernized sushi/sushi roll items that was not the most inspiring menu I have ever seen in my life. In fact I am rather uninspired. The prices are very reasonable but then it is because the quality is not the best I has seen (average). Service was so-so, in fact the server gave everyone's bills and I gave up waiting for mine after 10-15 minutes despite trying to chase down people. I almost felt like I needed to walk out for them to action. The restaurant is managed by one or two Japanese person but the kitchen is mainly staffed w people of Southeast Asian background (they are competent of course just want to point out not everyone is Japanese as some reviews may lead you to believe). You should strive to eat fresher and better Japanese food if you can. Otherwise this place will do fine if you need a quick fixer upper in this area (close to Nottinghill Gate tube station). I would only come back to this "meh" place if I had to... But not worth going out of my way. read more

You walk in and you look at your sister quizzically, at the same time wondering if she's making a joke by bringing you here, and at the same time sad that she's thinks this is ok. Nigiri sushi was fine, if flavourless, but the rolls, oh Christ, thank god I'd asked for extra napkins because that first and only bite had to go somewhere other than my stomach. Really delicious and, most importantly when it comes to sushi, FRESH food. Staff are pleasant and quick. Not much elbow room, as they've shoved as many tables and chairs as possible into this small space, but somehow it doesn't bother me. One thing that does annoy me is they are quite strict when it comes to how long you can use the table for. They start to get finicky once you've gone over an hour. So this isn't the place for you if you want to have a nice long relaxing meal.
