Should be called Don't Eat Tokyo. Worst sushi experience. Capped off by a manager arguing and embarrassing us...loudly insisting that the food was good...lol, we were the ones eating it. Most of the fish would have been been better off being used as chum on a deep sea charter fishing boat. Very low quality fish. We ordered the sashimi boat to get a good sampling of their sushi abilities. Absolute failure. Tuna was in-edible. Could nit even chew it up it was so tough and it was really smelly. Gross!! I almost barfed at the table, and we eat ALOT of sushi. I am not exaggerating, i was dry heaving. Maybe my standards are too high i don't know. One of the guys in our party was pulling BIG bones out of his fish pieces! Yummy!!! Wth!?! A non sushi person we brought ordered the chicken katsu, simple enough. They brought a small mountain of chicken! Yay! Except that it was half raw and black inside...that was when i decided to talk to a manager who insisted everything was fine! Haha fine to who? I showed her our napkins, FILLED with fish we had to spit out...and bones! And raw/black chicken:) I gladly paid for everything, and now we get to share our wonderful experience with the world. Either way i was sharing...the money i don't care about...thanks for ruining our evening...that's what i care about. Yellowtail rolls were good. We ordered alot of food, and the rolls were ok. It's usually a good sign, when people are queueing up for a restaurant and so we we decided to join the group of people waiting to eat at Eat Tokyo here in Golders Green. The waiting time was in fact not bad at all and soon we were seated. We ordered a plum wine each and we were all surprised to receive such a generously filled glass of this sweet liquor. We perused through the extensive menu and eventually all three of us settled for an order of Oyakodon (accompanied by a miso soup), which turned out to be very generous and filling portions. On the side we had ordered Edamame Beans, Age-Tofu, and a portion of what looked like a honey-glazed aubergine (the latter was especially delicious). We had also ordered two rolls, but they somehow didn't arrive and so we cancelled the order as we were stuffed anyway. The best of it all was the bill at the end: £35 for the three of us!!! How can I still not have reviewed Eat Tokyo!! I love this place. Been to numerous Japanese restaurants in London and no one place beats this one. Best fish, best price, Ans best location (for me before I live so close :P) the3y also have many branches all over London which I have yet to try. The most important thing for me when it comes to sushi is: who is the chef. This is going to sound very bad but I wont even consider going into a restaurant if I see a non-Japanese sushi chef. （A lot of times they try to trick u by placing a Chinese man） only Japanese people know their fish. My favourite thing about eat Tokyo is that the fish is always fresh, thick cut and they don't scam you. You get what you paid for. I understand fresh fish is very expensive in London But eat Tokyo is very generous. No matter what u order （Bento, sushi etc） the portions are always great, AS WELL AS THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. read more

There is nothing too special about this restaurant, but I do give it to two stars because of the service and for what I found in the salad of my bento box. I found a piece of plastic wrap that I had almost choked on and when I told my server, she just said,"Oh, that's just the plastic cover. It must've gotten mixed in with your salad. Sorry." This restaurant is one of the best Japanese restaurants that I have been to in London. With the low prices, big portions and decent quality, it is probably the best value for money restaurants in the city. This is especially true with the bento and the sushi dishes with bentos for under £7 and sushi platters (10 pieces) for under £10. The quality of the food is as good as you will get anywhere for a normal mid range Japanese restaurant. The place also feels really authentic and is in Golders Green which is a Japanese restaurant and grocery shopping hot spot. The diversity and sheer choice of what you can get here was the most impressive thing. There must of been at least 100-150 different dishes, but all looked so different (everything from sushi, to udon to grilled meats to desserts) that I had trouble deciding what to go for Also this is one of the very few Japanese places that seems to take its Sake and Shochu really seriously, which is great Overall, really impressive! read more

The only complaint I have is that the doors did not open right at opening as stated even though they were all inside. Very good food, prepared promptly. Bad service with an attitude. When you're alone you're told that you cannot sit at a table even when it's not busy AT ALL. The manager has her nose up high unless you are her friend, she took time to chit chat with the table that was obviously befriended with her. Me....all I got was "everything ok?"(ie hurry the f... up) once again it wasn't busy at all! One day their staffing will become their down fall. Eat Tokyo. Congratulations. You did it. Over 150 reviews and I never had a reason for this, but you did it. My first 1 star review, and I really hope my only one. This has actually sat with me for a while, I didn't want to post it, but what's the point of reviewing if you only do the good stuff? Let me be clear, I LIKE Eat Tokyo, at least eating at your former Trafalgar Square branch and its new location at Old Compton Street. However, this branch, the Golders Green branch, needs a swift change so that they don't affect their other branches. I've said in previous reviews about this branch about how their staffing issues haven't helped them but this one took the biscuit. I was meeting my parents for dinner before heading overseas the next day, and it was also a birthday meal (why I was going away). This location is better for us than their Soho branch, roughly halfway between where I live and where they do (closer to me in reality but I don't drive). I arrived early before the reservation, unfortunately without my parents as they were a little stuck in traffic. We had a reservation for 7, table for 3. What I didn't expect on going in was to be left waiting at the entrance. There is nobody there to meet you as you enter (absolutely fine, this isn't done anywhere) but also no one seemed to even take any notice that someone had walked through the door. The waiter came and went without acknowledging me, until I finally stopped him and told him I had a reservation. He asked me what time and how many and told me to wait. And left me there. Now it wasn't busy at this time, they weren't run off of their feet. In fact although the servers were busy, there was some down time in which they were able to stop and chat further back into the restaurant. I stopped the waiter again and asked him what was going on. "I asked you to wait, it's only been a few minutes". I was a little stunned at this point, but yes, I waited. Finally after 10 minutes, now past our original 7pm reservation, what seemed to be the manager comes along, and just to note, she wasn't a server and as far as I could tell, hadn't been doing all that much. "I am the one who will seat you, why did you talk to the waiter?" Maybe because you weren't at the entrance? If you were all the way at the back of the restaurant, how are you meant to seat customers? She asked me where the rest of my table was and I said running a little late in traffic. "I can't seat you without all of your party". I've never had this issue before, even when walking in to their other branches. I've even managed to make a reservation during lunch rush and do this. After a little back and forth she finally agreed to allow me to sit with a "if they aren't here in 5 minutes you will have to give the table up". This restaurant had several spare tables, so I honestly couldn't understand why she was being this way. I sat down, but was so disheartened by the experience that I called my parents and asked if they wanted to meet elsewhere. They were just parking, so I left (with no response from the manager), joined them and we headed closer to my place - Q Grill in Chalk Farm. Ok, I'm from Seattle, a very Japanese town. I started eating sushi around 11-12 years old. Bento boxes, uni, udon, etc. were all part of my vocabulary and love by time I was in my twenties. I could tell good from bad wasabi before I could drink legally. Now I travel a lot around the world and I wasn't expecting much in London when a friend of mine had me come out for dinner to this part of town. I was wrong. They had all the standard sushi and stuff people tend to dig, but then they had a giant menu with all kinds of stuff that most people don't know anything about like donburi and a lot more things. So, I ordered some of it and wow - it was awesome. The prices weren't cheap, but definitely not expensive for the quality of food. I haven't had this kind of authentic sort of Japanese food experience in Europe at all. I'll likely be back on future trips to London. read more

The worst service we've ever experienced in a Japanese restaurant, yes even beating the poor experience we had at a ramen. It is obviously riding on the coat tails of its popularity, as its waiters and waitresses were rude and unhelpful. We should have known when we rang up to make a reservation only to be told that they couldn't be bothered and we should just turn up. It only provides one high chair for the whole restaurant, so if it is occupied then expect to be told by the waitress that "your kid is eating in the pram, right?". The restaurant setting is pretty run down, I don't think it's worth the journey. We will never be back. read more

This is my brother and his family's go-to Japanese restaurant and it's easy to see why. While the restaurant is narrow and can't fit that many people, you forget about the space when you enjoy the food. All the sushi is fresh and delicious. It is very difficult to order when you have an elaborate menu. We ordered scallops with asparagus and steamed dim sums, both were very good. Then we ordered ramen noodles. Amazing experience as the food is always great. Me and my wife go there at least twice a week for lunch or diner and sometimes we do take away. The general manager is super nice and always welcome us with a big smile as the waiters we could not say the same for all but they are generally quick to take the orders but some of them are lacking in knowledge when you want to modify a dish to suit your taste. Vibe is really great all the time, music is very good and relaxing always in a good level. Best authentic japanese food for the price indeed. Really recommend! read more

I love eating at Eat Tokyo. It's very small, quaint and very traditional Japanese. The food is exceptional - my personal favourite dishes are the Bento boxes. Huge portions and not very expensive for what you receive. The sashimi is always good and fresh too, as is their sake. Only downside, is that it gets very very busy during peak hours, so expect to wait in the small foyer to be seated. Make sure you book ahead and arrive early! On a couple of occasions during those busy periods when I visited, the staff have forgotten my order, leaving me staring hungrily at an empty table, with in a group of friends. I did make a huge fuss, especially the 2nd time and they were very embarrassed about it, blaming being under staffed. No excuse if you ask me, but because the food is so good, I have been back. read more

What outrageously sized portions for the price! It was hard to choose between the regular katsu curry for £6 or the double for £7.90 - good thing I went with the regular as the latter was the size of a child's bicycle wheel. The bowls of hearty udon are massive and filling, although rather impossible to eat with the given utensils (wooden chopsticks and spoon). The aubergine with miso paste was so umami and savory that I wish I hadn't been full when it arrived. The points deducted are for the waiters' really weird attitudes: not wanting us to sit down when there were a bunch of people waiting, telling us it was rude and also they couldn't keep track of tables, and generally no order to the meal service. I don't eat sushi, but the menu was quite extensive. Lots of options to suit vegetarians, vegans, and celiacs. read more

This is a great restaurant, in what is becoming a decidedly Japanese area of London. The service is excellent, its very well staffed - not all of the staff can speak English though. The food is almost completely authentic (there's a small Japanese supermarket a few doors away). A majority of the clientele are Japanese - tho obviously, since London is a cosmopolitan city, there are also other nationalities there. Prices aren't bad, and the location is wonderful - right opposite the coach and tube station of Golders Green, even on the worst nights, its really easy to get to. Even in the recent cold weather, it was a pleasant environment to be in, so many restaurants can be really chilly, but even on opening up, its a comfortable, relaxing temperature. read more

Do not go to this restaurant! I had dinner there with my family and I found 3 hairs in my Goma-ae!!! I informed 3 or was it 4 members of staff and I got a very insincere 'sorry' from one. They just didn't care!!! All the manageress did was remove the offending item from the bill along with 1 other item that we cancelled after I found the hair in my food. No offer of even drinks on the house or a discounted or complentary meal. I felt sick and still do when I think about the hair I found in my food. Unbelieveably bad customer service. Their greed is disgusting. A waitress asked me if we'd finished eating as one member of our party had stood up but I said no we're still eating (as 2 people in the group were) but she ignored me and started clearing everything from the table. They are reasonably priced for Japanese food but they rush you as they want to get as many customers in as possible of a night and the quality is not great. To me it's an establishment where they only care about how much money they make and not on the quality of the food or hygiene or good customer service. read more

As a Japanese citizen freshly arrived to London from Tokyo in a couple months ago, I am very happy that I found this restaurant in London which is even better than many of the Japanese restaurants in Tokyo.It seems they also owns 7 successful restaurants in Tokyo too. The decoration and the service there were not as good as I expected but the price and quality were the same as what we eat in Tokyo. Everything was so delicious and big volume. I had Chiken teriyaki, that was sooo yammy!!! And the tempra was so skillfully made! Everytime I go to Japanese restaurant, I always check the quality of Tempra so that I can know the skill level of the chef (good tempra is the most difficult one to make). And I think this restaurant has really a good chef as Tempra was so beaufully made.That was one of the best tempra in my life. I also had Squid fries and Agedashi Tofu (fried tofu), and both were also so delicious. I am so happy and I am sure I will go there to eat at least once a week with my husband and/or with friends :) read more
