    Yaki soba

Simple, easy and cheap. A friend and I decided to meet for an impulsive dinner and wanted cheap and cheerful. In the area there isn't many options and I always have a hankering for noodles and gyoza so wagamamas suited that perfectly. The Canary Wharf branch is large, with long benches - as the norm. We were seated quickly and as it wasn't overly busy, could choose our table and had our own space and area for the entire evening. The food came out quickly and service was on point. In and out in an hour. I opted for the pulled pork gyoza and the yaki soba. Both were enjoyable and the pulled pick actually had more of a Peking duck flavour to it which was nice. Sure Wagamamas is a chain and the quality isn't up there with the best of London but for quick and easy food it was spot on and just what we needed!

Right lets get straight to the point! Fantastic customer service! Immaculate restaurant! Yeah the menu confusing but hey! Ive come here for one meal and one meal only and that is...wait for it... CHICKEN KATSU CURRY.....seriouly AMA-ZING! Chicken breast wrapped in panko bread crumbs were tender and crispy and soooo good. The curry was dancing its flavours in my mouth, the sticky rice had the right stickiness and the salad was fresh. I mean what a wonderful meal! It topped off my Bday well.

Yasai katsu - excellent suggestion for a vegetarian by Maeve our server.

Good food for a chain. Can be pricey if you order more than two sides. Since I'm vegetarian, I have to basically order sides. My husband loves the fried squid. Exceptionally speedy service and the wait staff are very good.

Food in Wagamama is not bad, but it is not great either. This place is good for a quick meal...my favorites are the chili squid, Wagamama ramen and Yaki Udon. They are served in generous portions so it is worth the price as long as you are not looking for something fancy. Service is always quick and good here!

The menu covers everything you would expect pretty well too and, given all the city folk around, not expensive The service was very good, friendly and efficient As for the food - it was acceptable, not the best I've ever had by any means but nothing untoward; a straightforward meal, tasty, spicy but not overbearingly hot and certainly plentiful...if in Canary Wharf again I would return

The first course was some spinach leaves in a sweet sauce and it was actually better than expected. It then came with 3 pieces of sashimi which I could tell were very fresh and melted in my mouth. There was also a tiny container of tuna tartare. Lastly, for my choice of protein, I went with the black cod, which was a nice soft consistency and cooked well. The sauce on the side also added some nice sweet flavor to complement the fish. While the food was good, I do feel that 48 GBP is slightly on the high side considering the small portion sizes. The interior of the restaurant has some elegant and classy decor. That's probably why so many people come for business lunches here (plus the location). The staff are average friendliness, although the service speed was kind of slow. It was also weird that they for some reason couldn't find our reservation in their system but we were still able to get a table nonetheless. Overall, I think ROKA is a very choice choice if you are looking for a fancier Japanese meal than your typical sushi restaurant.

Roka is basically a typical faux luxury establishment of the type that has been popularized over the years in areas of low culture and/or regions where a particular cusine doesn't really exist. You know the type: pictures of beautiful people and food, tasteful font for the establishment, and a quick look at the about section of the restaurant reveals it's place as part of group founded by a bunch of executives; it's not so much a restaurant as it is an exercise in corporate branding. When you visit, you'll notice that the clientel reflects that branding design as well. Everyone here looks like they're part of a vertical strategy that includes the workers at the firm itself, the final spot on a flow chart diagram where the staff themsleves are the primary customer for the product and then a line arches back to the beginning of the flow to further inform strategic planning for more pan something restaurants. The name of this group could be called Ouroboros but that might be a little on the nose. Most izakayas on Planet Earth have better food that what you'll get here and for far less money. This said, you won't get to enjoy a space filled with the finance crowd who are all tastefully lit to ensure their Instagram selfies look good enough for them to tag themselves with the establishment. Service is slow and aloof. Skip it.

You know going in here that the quality probably isn't going to be good. Straight away it violates two rules of good dining: 1) Pan anything is usually pretty poor, 2) A huge menu that doesn't make any choices is probably going to suffer. We ordered one of the set menus. As far as I could tell, this place dedicated to "sticks" and "sushi" had no "tuna" or "negima" on the menu at all which is pretty weird to start but we definitely tried to find them. Instead, salmon seemed to be the fish of choice and all of the ala carte skewers were at exorbitant prices; note that a much more delicious yakitori anything in Japan costs about 100-200 yen, not 1500 yen, but ok. Instead of beloved tuna we received red pepper nigiri as part of our set menu - what? There was a chicken roll that was kind of like a grilled chicken salad in rice paper that was OK. Etc. The quality of the fish in the nigiri wasn't bad but they have no idea how to make sushi rice here so I would avoid nigiri all together and just stick to sashimi if you're going to order from the sushi side of the menu. Oh and my 350ml bottle of junmai cost 49£, which was pretty typical for the sake prices here. So yeah, if you're visiting from the States set your sights on "Suburb Mall Court Fusion" with a bill around 200 bucks and you'll have an idea of what you're in for. Avoid it.

Since we were hungry and only had about an hour before our film started, we sat down anyway. Ordering food was easy enough and it didn't take too long to arrive. I had ordered a main that was advertised to come with rice or chips. I decided on rice as I don't particularly like chips. But when my food arrived the server pointed out that it came with couscous and he'll bring me chips instead of the rice I ordered. I pointed out that I wanted the rice, which is why I ordered it but he kept insisting he'll bring me chips. It was absolutely ridiculous. If I wanted chips, I'd have bloody well ordered them! The food was decent, I've had better but the price was reasonable enough. Probably wouldn't return though as service is really bad.

It's right by the waterfront by West India Quay station and has a great outdoors area, perfect for sitting outside but under a covering on a nice summer's evening. I've heard that it's crazy busy on Thursday and Friday nights, but on a Saturday, we didn't even have to book for a party of 4, and were seated right away around 7:30 pm. The shisha is about 15 pounds for 2 people, and you have to have 1 for every 2 people. They also have these ice extensions that I'd never seen before, for an extra 2 pounds. They didn't add much to the experience, but were cool for the novelty. As for the food, they have a great selection of Lebanese/Indian food. First we got the vegetarian mixed meze, which says that it serves 2, but is more than enough for 3 or 4 people. It's ok, but nothing stellar. But my friend could not stop raving about Farruj Meshwi, which is a grilled baby chicken that comes with the most amazing garlic sauce. I was definitely impressed. As our other main to share between 3 people, we got the mixed biryani, but I was disappointed, as it was more like rice with some sauce stirred into it instead of the oily fried rice type of biryani that I grew to love when I was in India. So you're probably better off sticking to the Lebanese stuff. Overall, food was decent, but that's not what you're coming for. It's a killer venue with a great BYO policy and it just so happens to be cheap too. It was honestly hard to spend 20 pounds per head... maybe if you order 1 main per person, but there was just so much food as well! I wish London had more BYOs like this... in any case, definitely worth the trek out to Canary Wharf, and a neighborhood gem for those who work or live there!
