I noticed there are not a lot of authentic (and affordable) Japanese places outside Central London? Well, I'm lucky to have stumbled across Eat Tokyo. They have many locations and the closest one to my place is the Hammersmith location. All their bento boxes are superb even though the teriyaki chicken can be on the fatty side. I suggest any menu item containing their fresh sashimi (it literally melts in your mouth like butter), veggie/shrimp tempura (good batter) and anything teriyaki is solid. Sushi is good as well (I tried one of their fancy rolls). Their mapo tofu is also great value for the amount you get. Easily one of my favorite takeaway places! read more

For a restaurant chain, this place is good. I went for the lunch bento and there was too much food to eat, even being super hungry! I saw the special of the day after I ordered which would have been enough at £8.50 but ended up with the full price at £15. Salmon teriyaki, tuna and salmon sushi, shrimp and vegetables tempura, green salad, pickles, rice and miso soup. Great quality and freshness. Service was slightly lacklustre, but there was one friendly waitress. There's nothing fancy about it but if you have time for a decent sit down meal, you will find a big menu of Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices. read more

The ambience seems to be authentic, not playing the usually tacky oriental-themed music with unnecessarily extravagantly dressed waiting staff. The pricing may be slightly expensive but nothing more than Wagamama or yo sushi, if not less than, yet the quality is so much higher than both the other restaurants. I was shocked to find out it was, in fact, a chain restaurant as the atmosphere seems in likeness to a family-run restaurant in the heart of Japan. One of the best restaurants I've been to ever! my only small complaints would be that there is limited table space and the dining area often feels cramped often leading to close proximity with other eaters. Not ideal for a date or intimate conversation either as the lighting can often be quite intense. read more

First I'll start by saying that I have been a patron of Eat Tokyo for over 8 years. Firstly discovered the branch near Trafalgar Sq, which later moved, and lately at Hammersmith since I live in Fulham. On this particular occasion I am compelled to give one star because of the rude and arrogant service we received. I came in with a dear friend of mine and we were talking for a few minutes before ordering since we hadn't seen each other in over a year. In a timeframe of less than 5 minutes we were asked 4 times if we were ready to order, which I instantly thought was odd, rushed and quite rude. On the third time we were warned that there was a 1hr 30 limit for the table so you should order now. Mind you, this was on a not very busy Monday night. Overall the service was extremely rude and inattentive. We had to ask several times for water, it really was a hot day. Then we waited ages for the cheque at the end. Overall the staff were inattentive when we needed them and on us when it suited them. At the end the waitress said 'can we have the table back now please?' 'Gladly!!' we replied. When the bill came out with a discretionary service charge we crossed it out, paid the bill and left. Upon leaving there were still at least 3 empty tables. Guess they didn't need them after all. Suffice to say I will think twice about eating at Eat Tokyo. We either ended up with bad staff or they have gone downhill since I was last there. Service means everything in this industry and on this occasion it was shockingly bad. Thankfully the great company made up for the incredibly poor restaurant experience. I shan't be introducing new people to this place until I can be sure their service is back up to standard. This place looked really great from the yelp photos so I sent a band here and the crew ordered food here. Everyone had a tasty meal but the menu for this place was SO HARD to find. We had to look at the Notting Hill menu from Zomato. I ordered half katsu jyu (oh man the egg was fab) along with the kobbacha karroke which is Japanese pumpkin croquette. I had to take stars away because the food took almost over an hour and 30 min to get! I called the order in advance and was told it'd be ready in 30 min, I gave them a 15 minute buffer but when our person came to pick up the order it had seemed that they had forgotten all about it! They scrambled to get everything together but didn't offer any discounts or anything for the additional wait. Most people didn't get to eat the food until 3-4 hours later but it was still good (we kept it in the fridge)..although we did have 1 stomach incident from maybe the chicken skewers that were left out too long. Always see this restaurant when passed by Kings Road but never have an urge to try until today really feel like having some Japanese They have a verity of selections in their menu .Very reasonable price. £7.50 for Katsu don. £8 for spider roll. Most sushi roll are below £10. Their chef is old Japanese sushi chef which now a days very hard to find in most Japanese restaurant. If you look at their nigiri sushi you know that's is made by a very good sushi chef. The shape of the nigiri is like a fan. Fish and rice tiedly hand press together. It will not fall apart when u hold them up with chopstick or deep it into soya sauce by side way. Katsu don portion is really big but the meat is rather dry and blend. I am a regular customer of this branch. A very good option to dine out on a Friday night without going all the way to Central London. The manager there is a star, she is very helpful and can tell she's a real hands-on person. However, the queueing situation can be a bit out of control on a busy evening (e.g: a lot people waiting outside, some impatient ones just walk inside to ask for table and ignoring the queue, some people with reservations try to get in...etc). And I guess the other staff are not allowed to sort the it out. Therefore it's left to the manager to decide what to do. She's often very busy working on the floor and kitchen, she has little time to sort the queue out. I just guess she can let her staff to help her out more and direct them what to do instead of doing things by herself. Then she can sort the queue out. Food wise, for that price, it is very good value. Each branch tends to have a slightly different menu. Bento is always a safe choice. I like Salmon Yama and Saki Mussels as side dishes. Amazing authentic sushi and Japanese food. I reccomend Chicken & Salmon teriyaki bento. There is enough food in this dish for two people and even a glutton would have trouble finishing this. My favourite roll is the prawn tempura roll but I also like the california and alaska rolls. I normally take away and the service in that respect is good. I can understand the comments regarding the eat in service and I can only assume these incidents hapoen when the place is busy. read more

We went to Eat Tokyo for lunch, and it was as solid as expected. We ordered a plate of rolls to share as a starter, then kyudon and teriyaki bento as mains. I particularly liked the rolls -- perfectly flavoured with still-warm rice unlike the ready-made, cold ones. My kyudon was good and served in healthy portions as well. Ambience is simple and subdued -- much like the one close to Leicester Square. Good for reasonably posh business meals, but probably not your highest class one. Finally, service was amazing. I had a large suitcase with me as I was due to go to the airport right after, and the lady was very understanding and helpful in carrying it in and out of the store with me. Food and prices were good. However, the rude staff really ruined our experience. They even had a MANDATORY service charge which i think is illegal and told us we cant leave unless we pay it. I explained that the service charge is for when someone is satisfied with the service and we were not. They werent having it. VERY rude staff. We also had to keep asking for tap water as they didnt give us a jug.In the end they just ignored us and never gave us any more.I believe they are only interested in money and getting people in and out as quick as possible.I think i wil only be having a take away from there. read more

The Hammersmith branch can be fairly quiet at lunch hours due to the hot competitions from the likes of Feng Sushi & Wasabi nearby. Try the Bento box with a choice from between grilled items, sushi and tempura. For a more extravagant affair, the sushi selection sharing platter aka sushi boat offers wide ranges of sashimi such as scallop, sea bass and yellow tail as well as classics such as tuna and salmon. Hot dishes such as teriyaki chicken with rice and Japanese curry pork Katsu are also solid. We dropped in without a reservation and they made room for us at the bar. The picture menu was a bit like a phone book and we found lots of vegetarian options. We had aubergine dengaku (delicious), teriyaki tofu (almost as delicious), teriyaki mushrooms (similar and delicious), vegetable tempura (pretty good), avocado rolls (typical but good), and edamame (typical). The staff was super busy as might be expected on a Friday night, but very nice and unnecessarily apologetic about the wait. This was the best meal of a week dining out across London. Hammersimth branch is terrible as there is no customer services at all. It is a horrible experience. You are lucky if you are not being shouted. Strongly recommend to make a reservation before you go as you will be asked to wait for lots of "5 mins" in the rain!!!!!!! They also urged us to order with no menu explanation. I fully understood there are so many customers at that moment. However, is the mean attitude like a "tradition" that "eat Tokyo" treats every customer??!!! The only one star is given for the reasonable food price without considering the extremely bad environment and services.
