I opted for the beef tartare, which was less traditional in its preparation, lacking cornichons and/or capers, and having a fancy smoked egg yolk piped on top. The salmon was perfectly pan seared and the beef tartare was good as well, though I wish there was a bit more bread to use to scoop up the beef. Overall, the food was good. Our server was awesome - super friendly but also very efficient. He was overseeing a number of tables, but we always felt we were checked in on, our wine was always topped up, and we were never without water. Easily the best service we received in Montreal. Overall, this place was great and our mouths were watering as they were bringing out the dishes for other tables. There were at least 4-5 items on the menu that looked great and we hope to be able to visit again soon to try more of them.

In addition to this location in Montréal, I believe there's another one in Singapore. The restaurant conveniently has an entrance off the lobby, though it also has its own dedicated entrance on the street. The interior was mostly empty when we arrived, mainly because it was a lovely day and most patrons (including us) opted to sit in their outdoor area. The decor is top tier - high end finishes with interesting art and pops of color throughout. The outdoor area was semi-enclosed with lovely views of foliage and a small pond with ducks swimming...aww! For breakfast, they offered the option of a la carte or their buffet. We opted for the latter, which was quite abundant. There was a great selection of traditional breakfast offerings like scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, and fruit. They also had some interesting pastries and breads, plus an omelette station. Everything I tried was delicious. Service was great, we were taken care of promptly and despite it being self-service, we never felt ignored. Overall, I had a great experience at Maison Boulud. I don't think I got the quintessential experience as I was only here for breakfast, but I would definitely return for another meal.

It was super crispy on the outside, but the meat was super tender and juicy and melted off of the bone. My mouth is watering while thinking about it. It also came with bread service. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I would give it a 4/5 - it was a little more bland than others I've had - not bad at all, but not my favorite one of all time. They seem to be serious about their coffee (see pictures). Since I was sitting right in front of it I had to order one to go with the tiramisu. I had a basic americano, and it was a great addition. We started with oysters from PEI and New Brunswick. Loved that they let you choose the units so we only ordered 4 (2 each). We also had as appetizer their foie gras parfait and tomatoes from our garden. Both we wonderful choices. The tomatoes were perfect for the season with a beautiful balance of tomatoes, stracciatella and focaccia. Foie is a classic and loved the grilled bread and pickled vegetables to accompany it. Our entrees were the lamb rump, braised shoulder and butcher cut steak and frites which was the hangar steak. The lamb was delicious and very hearty in a good way. The steak was perfectly prepared and the frites stayed warm the entire meal with their presentation. We ended with their house fav passion fruit pavlova. Light and airy texture with lovely flavor. Nice way to compete the meal!

The second course was tomato, eggplant, and clams with some greens in a clam broth. Absolutely fantastic and we were so glad that we had bread to soak up the excess broth! We had two options for the third course (a pork dish with garlic and ginger, and a pasta dish with chanterelles, corn, and cauliflower), so I ordered the pasta and my partner ordered the pork so we could try both of them. Both were delicious, but we both agreed that the pasta was the better of the two. We had two options for the finale (a goat cheese with nectarine, and a strawberry, raspberry, and pepper dish with vanilla ice cream), so we each ordered one of them. Both were great -- hard to pick a favorite! We also had pour over coffee. They get their coffee from Dispatch (a Montreal coffee shop), and we enjoyed it a lot. The space is large and open, with high ceilings, large windows, and a bar in the center of the room that serves as a focal point. I was a fan of the art deco decor, and the soft music playing in the background tied it all together. The breakfast menu had a good variety of items without being overwhelming. It definitely leaned more towards classic dishes with nothing too out of the ordinary. They started us with some complimentary canary melon which was sweet and juicy mmm. For my actual breakfast, I went with the pancake and a side of sausage (because protein). The pancake was much grander than I expected; it was a single cake that was topped with butter, fruit compote, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. This really exceeded my expectations - the cake was huge and super thick with the perfect amount of components; it was definitely a more cakey pancake if that makes sense. The sausage was good as well, it was stuffed with cheese which complemented the sausage meat well. Service was great, our waiter was attentive but not all over us which I appreciated. Overall, I thought Le 9E was a good find; I'm not running back though, as I would like to try other breakfast spots in the city first, but regardless you'll get a solid meal here with great aesthetics.
