Eco Oasis - Go Vegan is located 65km east of Malaga in the mountains very close to the city of Competa. The houses are surrounded by olive groves and other trees carrying fresh fruit, like figs, grapes, and oranges. The beach is about 15km away. We participated in the 5 day program with vegan cooking and nutrition classes at Go Vegan in October 2014.
Each day we had about four hours of cooking lessons, split into 2x two hours, one for lunch and one for dinner. In each cooking lesson we cooked about 4 dishes. Usually one dish in each lessen was raw and the others cooked. The food was all organic and all ingredients were of high quality. Ana's is a very experienced vegan cooking teacher and she always surprised us with how simple it is to cook even more complicated vegan menus.
At home I also cook vegan food but all recipes were new to me and the food was very delicious and very inspiring. At the end of the course we received a CD with all recipes.
Each day we also had two theory lessons on nutrition with Jose. We learned a lot about the typical ingredients used in the vegan cuisine. We learned how to combine the different vegan ingredients to get a healthy diet that gives us all nutrients needed by our body. We also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a vegan vs. vegetarian vs. meat diet.
The classes are either in English or Spanish.
At one day we did an organized full day excursion including a hiking trip to a nature reserve with water falls, a visit to a vegan restaurant in a small and beautiful mountain village, and a visit of the city Competa. Other possible day trips are: to the beach or to the famous caves of Nerja.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. They have several small houses and each house has around 4 bedrooms. Each house has a pool. The water temperature was quite cold but we still used the pool every day. From the terrace and from the pool we had an impressive view over the entire valley even down to the Mediterranean sea.
Transportation from and to the airport of Malaga was included.
Besides the all-inclusive vegan cooking classes there are also other options available: raw food classes, yoga classes, only lodging without food included, lodging with food but without cooking classes.
To me the only downside of this place is that it takes about 1.5h to get there from the airport because it is quite far up in the mountains.
Overall I had a great time. This is really a special place. I can highly recommend this place to anybody who is interested in learning more about vegan food. read more
