I could not stay here. Had to leave at 3 am. Bed was infested with bedbugs. No one available at the front desk. I tried to call someone through Hotels.com, which is the app I used to book, and the hotel proprietor said there was nothing they could do, as it was 3 am and they would not come to the desk. They said I could come back at 8 am to discuss the problem. I was definitely not doing to stick around, with nowhere to sleep and nowhere to go!

More great features of room 214

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! If I could give this garbage heap less stars I would. Incredibly rude couple who put me in a smoking room when I had booked a non smoking. They said the only one they had that wasn't smoking they would need to let me into personally... wtf?! The room smells like a stale ashtray and urine, but that's not all ladies and gentlemen! The ceiling above the bed in room 214 (the top floor) was alive with animal activity; at many points during the night of sleeping on a sleeping bag on top of the bed I honestly thought there was going to be an animal that fell through the ceiling! I assume it was rats or squirrels. The pictures are of the noisy ceiling that is stained with plenty of mold to boot. Easily the crappiest hotel I've ever been to

Super 8 by Wyndham Walnut - 2 Queen Bed Room

Newly renovated and an outstanding value…read more I can honestly say this was the nicest Super 8 I've stayed at. Most of the rooms have been remodeled, there's a nice pool and plenty of parking. The room here was very modern with plenty of amenities, including a fridge and microwave. The king size bed was super comfortable and included a down comforter underneath the top blanket! Very cozy after a long day on the road. The wifi signal (no extra charge) was excellent as well. The woman at the front desk was so polite and helpful. She even came out to give me detailed information on where to park and how to get to my room. The check in and out process was quick and easy. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful with plenty to choose from, even after 9, when it was served from 6-10. Make your own waffles, breakfast, juice, fruit and much more. The only minor thing to note is that the indoor pool was chilly, but I know it costs a lot to heat a pool, so I can't complain too much. I absolutely recommend this Super 8 for a pleasant and affordable stay.

We were not going to let our family pet, a calm loving english bulldog bake in the car with how hot it was outside..... This is the only hotel off this exit, so avoid Exit 46 on I80 in Iowa at all cost!!! By the way the website says "Pet Friendly " hotel, don't believe it.

The breakfasts were amazing and I am guessing she must have gone to a premier chef school in order to prepare such a fine meal. She made sure there was a trail of lights up to our room in the evening if we got back a little late in order for us to be as safe as possible getting back to our rooms. The house is from 1898 and she knew the history of this this huge house (over 6000 square feet, not including th coach house) as well as a lot of the local history. Barbara was helpful with directions and all other aspects of being a kind, helpful conscientious hostess. We enjoyed our 7 days here and plan to stay here every time we're back in Atlantic visiting family!

Barbara, the owner, delighted us with blackberry muffins with the berries from her garden. Iowa-grown sweet hickory bacon and an egg and cheese tart. Barbara has extensive knowledge of local history, suggesting some of the unique sites in the local area to see like the Danish windmill and museum in Elkhorn, the "little mermaid" statue and fountains in Kimballton, replica of the one in Denmark, and the antique mecca in Walnut, IA. We share a love of gardens and Barbara did not disappoint. Her tour of her lush trees and plants was a highlight of the trip as was the intricate woodwork throughout the mansion.

Our king suite is a large room. Just what we wanted after several days driving. High ceilings and one large window overlooking the parking lot, Sink is in room next to a small area to hang clothes with an iron, board and luggage rack. Toilet and tub/shower room across from th bsink. Besides the king bed the room includes a good size desk area with lamp, sofa, side chair and coffee table. A dresser holds the TV, a microwave, fridge, ice bucket and plastic cups. Coffee maker is on the counter next to the sink. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The room temperature good. There were some cosmetic issues, but it also appears the hotel is making upgrades like 2 new hooks in the bathroom and new shower surround. So the important items are as you would want them. Breakfast from 6am -10am off the lobby includes coffee from a machine, juices, waffles, biscuits, sausage, scrambled eggs, cereals, apples, toast and yogurt. An ice machine and two vending machines are around the corner from the lobby. Restaurant, grocery and a few other business nearby. Close to the highway. Plenty of parking. Quiet.

Do Not Stay Here - Bed Bugs, Poor Management, and No Accountability…read moreI stayed at the Baymont Inn in Harlan, Iowa, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. On Sunday morning, I was informed by other guests that the hotel had a bed bug issue--something that was never disclosed to me when I checked in. My sister's boyfriend even spoke with the front desk and that person said, yea we get them from time to time and we just spray for them - GROSS Once I found out, I immediately packed up and checked out. The front desk clerk refunded me for Sunday night and allowed early check-out, but I was still charged for Saturday night--even though I would have never stayed had I known the hotel had a bed bug situation. As a result, I had to take urgent and expensive steps to prevent contamination of my home: I washed and heat-treated all my clothes, blankets, pillows, and bags at a commercial laundromat. I also had to take additional precautions to protect my home and car. This was stressful, time-consuming, and costly--all because the hotel failed to be transparent. When I called to speak with the General Manager, I was shocked by how I was treated. She denied there were bed bugs, got defensive when I mentioned other small black bugs I saw crawling on the wall in my room, and then accused me of lying. She told me I was "making things up" because I hadn't mentioned the black bugs earlier. She dismissed my valid concern that the situation had caused me significant stress, saying that I "chose" to spend the money on precautions and that it was not her problem. When I asked why there were large drying or industrial machines set up in the downstairs hallway, she said it wasn't a flood issue--it was foundation issues on that side of the building. And when I asked about getting the room inspected, she told me, "If you want, you can report me to the state and they'll come inspect it." Her tone made it seem like she wasn't concerned at all--perhaps because this is a very small town and she likely knows who those inspectors are. That's just my assumption, but the dismissiveness was loud and clear. The front desk staff, while polite, looked visibly uncomfortable and avoided eye contact the entire time I was gathering my things--as if they knew something and didn't want to get involved. My brother and sister were also staying at the hotel, and they are just as disgusted by the situation. None of us should've been put in this position--and the manager's refusal to take any responsibility is appalling. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Baymont and Wyndham should be ashamed to have this property under their name.
