I'd give negative stars if I could. WARNING! Do NOT stay here! Rude management. Broken equipment. Bed bugs. Overcharges! I stayed at this hotel for business. Was quoted a special bulk executive rate because there were several of us from the same company staying at that location. Check-in was a nightmare. Older Owner/manager was "supervising" a young gal at the desk, too her credit, was doing her best to get everyone checked in, in a timely manner. When my time came, I was checked in by the young gal with a welcoming smile and pleasant conversation. I received my room card and went to get my bags. I travel with a medical service dog (BIG German Shepherd) who is medically necessary and is with me everywhere I go. He was with me when I checked in but the older lady did not see him as she was sitting in a wheel chair behind the desk. I came back in with my dog and his food bowls and the older lady got very upset saying "No No No dog allowed!" As I mentioned during check in that I have a service animal, I reminded her that I have a medical need that he is a highly trained medical service dog and she doesn't have the option of not allowing him to stay with me in my room. The young gal interjected and said it's ok we will move you to a "pet room". I said No. I'm fine with the room you gave me. He is trained and does not potty inside nor does he sleep on furniture and i don't want to have any urine smells while I'm trying to sleep. The manager got very upset but the young lady told me it would be fine and enjoy the stay. I went to the room. Did my typical room check for cleanliness and bugs and seemed mostly adequate for the price. AC unit in the room did not work. No power to the outlet. It wasn't overly hot and the window had a screen so I just opened the window because I didn't want to deal with the crabby old lady at the front desk. Woke the next morning feeling itchy, thinking there must have been a hole in the screen and I must have gotten bitten by mosquitoes while sleeping. As the day progressed, much to my dismay, I discovered indeed it was NOT mosquitoes that had eaten me but BED BUGS! I was horrified. I had large swollen hot red bumps all over my head, face, neck, chest, arms and hands, which progressively got worse as the day trudged on. Itchy burning swollen lumps seemed to multiply by the minute. At my first opportunity, I called the hotel to inform them that they have a serious bed bug issue and it needs to be addressed immediately. Another co-worker of mine also experienced same issues. I was told management would call me back. No call back. I checked my credit card statement online to verify the charges, as I was going to demand a refund when call back. Come to find out, they charged me almost DOULBE the bulk executive discount rate they quoted me that night. Not only did they double charge me, they ran it twice! I dug for my paper receipt and found it, verified the signed receipt which was the correct price I was expecting. I called the hotel back AGAIN, after several attempts and no answers. The old manager lady answered, and I knew it was her because I recognized the accent. I told her about the bed bugs and the several wrong charges made to my credit card and she yelled at me then proceeded to swear at me and said they didn't have any bed bugs then hung up on me. I called Choice hotels as they are affiliated and made my complaint there. I reported to my credit card company the inaccurate and multiple charges. I also am making this Yelp review to warn anyone considering staying at this location. PLEASE, save yourself the hassle and go to Avoca Iowa or ANYWHERE else but here. Save yourself the hassle. *NOTE: I did NOT find the bugs themselves nor evidence of them on my pre-inspection of the room. I believe they were in the pillows as I have NO bites from the belly down to the toes. Only chest and up. That's why I posted only pictures of the bites. read more

I could not stay here. Had to leave at 3 am. Bed was infested with bedbugs. No one available at the front desk. I tried to call someone through Hotels.com, which is the app I used to book, and the hotel proprietor said there was nothing they could do, as it was 3 am and they would not come to the desk. They said I could come back at 8 am to discuss the problem. I was definitely not doing to stick around, with nowhere to sleep and nowhere to go! read more

We stayed here the night before my nieces wedding to be closer to the venue. This included the bride and wedding party girls. We got there late and would just be staying there for a quick night. Right before checking in we were using the map and it pulled up the most recent review. YIKES...someone had said they were bit by bed bugs. So of course we were mortified! We just decided we would try it out and then get the heck out if there were indeed bed bugs or anything else. Upon walking in to check in, there was an older couple that run the hotel that were there to check you in. They were not overly friendly, but fine. It feels like you are walking in to grandma and grandpa's house for the night...with it decorated more home like and the lights were dimmed low. We immediately checked the room looking in every nook and cranny for bed bugs or anything else. We stripped the beds...no bed bugs to be found that we could see...thank goodness! The room is dated, but fairly clean. I have stayed at worse hotels for sure. So as far as sleeping, it did the job. I took a shower the next morning...that was the worst part. The water was warm enough I could stand it, but cold enough I had to shave my legs with goosebumps. My 11 year old took a shower after me and said it got warmer the longer it ran...so yay for her. Overall, it did the job and we got more sleep being closer to the venue. Nothing at all fancy! Breakfast was included, but we didn't eat it...it was pretty boring! Cold cereals and some toast. We just grabbed something in the drive through a few towns away on our way to the venue. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! If I could give this garbage heap less stars I would. Incredibly rude couple who put me in a smoking room when I had booked a non smoking. They said the only one they had that wasn't smoking they would need to let me into personally... wtf?! The room smells like a stale ashtray and urine, but that's not all ladies and gentlemen! The ceiling above the bed in room 214 (the top floor) was alive with animal activity; at many points during the night of sleeping on a sleeping bag on top of the bed I honestly thought there was going to be an animal that fell through the ceiling! I got bed bug last week here at first floor two Queen bed room. We found a-lot and we brought and show it to front dest old guy. But he wasn't like not any reaction like he knew it. No refund and even a call them and he said ((Im bad memory. )) And choice group try to gave me 5000 points in membership but need to 8000-35000 points fir free night. Ok I understand can't refund but give back even one night free? We had traumatized next day in hotel. Sorry i will never back to use choice group hotels. read more

This hotel is old but it's comfortable and very clean. Towels are all white the owner checked me in he was so nice and very interested in talking with me to hear about my travels. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone passing thru for a nice clean comfortable night ! read more

Very lovely place and very sweet people running it. My car broke down and even though it is definitely NOT their job, they picked me up from a mile away and kindly helped me with lodging. The rooms are functional and comfortable, and even have decent sized fridges. My only note would be to offer shampoo and conditioner, but that is super minor as far as this price point is concerned. Very much worth your time if you're looking for an affordable clean spot to crash in with kind people running it. read more

I haven't even slept yet and the experience is terrible. We got here around midnight and it took us twenty minutes to check in. Twenty. He didn't even know we had a room booked or asked us for any information before telling us what was readily available. After we finally get the key to our room you have to shove the door after you put in the key. Once we get in the room? No AC on 86 degree night with 89 percent humidity. Place is a dump. The. First sign should have been the black mold near the air vents in the hall way on the way to my room. The guy at the front desk couldn't program me a key so he had to bring he programmer to my room to let me in. They obviously don't care about their business and do just enough to get by and stay open. The first room I was in $89 and just didn't look kept up. As I went to plug my phone charger in behind the night stand there was old food a wrappers and garbage behind it. Just sitting there all moldy. No toilet paper in the room and the roll was empty. As I went to the front desk to complain nails were easily an inch sticking out of the molding of the front door that jabbed me in the arm. Didn't think I would need a tetanus shot while traveling on business. I asked them to switch my room which they did. The second room also had an empty toilet paper roll but did have a new roll above with towels. Again not a very clean room as there was dirty tissues on the floor between the couch and the half well by the bed. I also noticed peculiar red stains on the wall in the bathroom that could have either been blood or red wine. Didn't have a portable CSI DNA kit to confirm. read more

I booked this hotel through Expedia and when I got to the hotel the lady behind the desk asked for my credit card (which hotels usually do in case of incidentals). She told me to come back later to fill out the paper work because the computer was working. Later on in the evening I stopped back by the desk and another woman was working. I told her the 1st lady told me to come back and finish the paperwork, and she replied "yeah she doesn't really know how to run things, but I'm having trouble with the computer system now too so I'll call your room or bring it up to you." Nothing. So when I went to check out the next morning there was a guy working and I explained to him what I was told the night before. He gave me a piece of paper to sign and I noticed a charge. I told him I had booked through Expedia and my card should not be charged. He said he would double check it in the system and make sure it wasn't and if it was, he would take care of it immediately. So I checked out and later that evening I checked my credit card and there was not 1 but TWO charges from that hotel! (One was for $75 and the other was for $85!) I called the hotel and it was the same guy who was there that morning. I told him I already paid through Expedia and there was no reason why I should have been charged again, especially twice! He told me he was busy, but would look into it and call me back that night. Never called me back. The next day I called again and it was the very 1st lady that checked me in. I explained to her the situation and that he was supposed to call me back and she said to call back in the afternoon when he would be back. I called 4 times trying to get ahold of him and she would always tell me he was busy and was very hateful and one time even hung up on me before answering! I told her all I needed to know was if he had looked into it and to make sure the charges would be refunded. On the last time I called she angrily said "He will just take care of it!" And hung up. Very rude to me when THEY were the one who inconvenienced me charging over $100+ of unnecessary charges on my credit card. The last thing I needed was trying to call and fight with them to get the charges refunded while I was driving across country to start a new job. Plus the room I got was disgusting! My room was on the 2nd floor and when I got to the top of the stairs the entire 2nd floor hallway was dark. Lights were off and I had trouble finding my room because it was so dark. The pillows on the bed had stains on them, there was nail clippings on the desk, the ice bucket was dirty and the bathroom shower curtain had blood on it. No one at front desk almost every time we went downstairs. No elevator. Room does not cool down. My husband and I stopped here on our way back from Colorado. The gentleman behind the desk was very personable. The room was not fancy, but we had a good night sleep and hot water in the morning for our showers. The breakfast wasn't fancy either but gave you a variety of choices. Worst customer service ever. After arriving late and exhausted, I was put in the room with a bed that was previously saturated through to the mattress in urine and covered up with a sheet. I couldn't sleep all night because the smell was so bad. In the morning, we explained the situation to the staff member who had checked us in that night and took him to our room where he stuck his nose to the bed and denied smelling anything. It wasn't until we tore the sheet off to reveal the huge yellow stain underneath that he had to admit it was a problem. In the end, staff were rude, unaccommodating, and refused to refund the money we grossly overpaid due to it being the last room available between DeMoines and Lincoln. Horrible experience. Well after a long day of driving my son husband and I were pretty tired. we stopped for the night at econo lodge to get some rest. when we got to our room it smells like it was recently sprayed with cinnamon glade. The second thing I noticed was the mold in the roof of our room. The window was right above the air unit so the blinds blocked the air flow. The beds were alright I give it a 2 star. I went to take a shower and the drain stopper In the tub wouldn't come out or stay up so in order to drain the water I had to bend over and hold the drain up to let the water from my shower out. At this point I only had one thing to look forward to and that was the continental breakfast I woke up at 8 hoping to get a nice was meal for my family before getting back on the road. All they had for breakfast was raisin brand no milk orange juice bread to make toast and waffles. For it being $60 for one night I hoped that they would of had something warm.
