Staff was really friendly at check in and when we needed a couple things. Room was clean and seemed well maintained, though both thermostats were flashing low battery! It didn't stop them from working though. Wi-fi service was good. Ate breakfast downstairs one morning and it was the usual Holiday Inn Express offerings. One evening several of us sat in the lobby area and played cards for a couple hours and no one bothered us. I will definitely stay at this location again if we are in the Lexington/Louisville area. Being right on I64 in the middle made it super convenient for either direction.

As with the rest, there is a real lack of any atmosphere - paintings or nice pictures are totally missing in the corridors. There could be more American decor - this is America, not a foreign country. In the dining room as well as lobby, there is no pleasant music. Totally dull. The only bummer during our stay was that the pool was closed for something needing fixed. My kids were very disheartened, the front desk said on our first day of check in that it should be fixed that day, but it was not, and then it was still closed on our second day at the hotel as well. I did not complain too much to the front desk, but maybe I should have asked for a discount due to the one amenity we searched for (pool), while booking, was unavailable to use. If we'd known, I would have looked for another hotel to stay at so we could swim, especially since we got a lot of rain during our stay and could not do many of the outdoor activities we'd planned to do. It would have been nice to swim while stuck inside.

The marker reads, "Established in 1859 by George A. Armstrong and was known for its good food and lodgings. Guerrilla leader Ed Terrell stopped here briefly, May 26, 1866. Attempting to escape, he was mortally wounded nearby. Brigadier General Henry H. Denhardt was slain here, Sept. 20, 1937. When the hotel was destroyed by fire on February 7, 1944, the owners decided not to rebuild." There is street parking along US-60 and several parking lots in the area.
