Our daughters wedding reception was held here 5-11-24. It was really a very nice time enjoyed by all. The staff did a very nice job of setting up, serving, bartending and making sure everyone was comfortable. Looking for a quick 9 holes in the afternoon before the storms arrived. I was able to walk up and get a tee time just before the afternoon scramble game. Played from the Gold tees just to speed things up a bit. Some wear & tear on the fairways and tee boxes but in pretty good shape for the local public course. $27 for 9holes with cart. Perfect to knock the rust off after not playing for a few weeks. Friendly staff and good golf at this historic course for a reasonable price. Thanks Ed Oliver Golf Club. read more

This course haven't had a review for a while so here goes! Not too bad for most of us public course players. The layout is good and holes 11&12 are pretty challenging (@11, kept the drive LEFT). Narrow fairways & elevated greens. The greens are well kept, best to keep the ball below the hole. Gary, the starter, was excellent. Helped us understand the lay of the land. Discounted price after 2:00PM. Price point for an afternoon 18 was perfect. My wife who's just getting started with golf did not feel pressured by the golfers behind. Pleasant people around the course & clubhouse/restaurant. Rating it 3.5 bc the fairways, although maintained, need some work (crabgrass), bunkers need some sand (but playable), and the tee boxes need repairs. read more

If I could rate it zero starts, I absolutely would. I've been to many golf courses and this has been by far the worst. They started each group at hole one, causing a line of 6 people just to start off. The play was slow, took over 2 hours to play 9 holes (with only one person playing), and everyone around was complaining about the slow play. The course conditions were dry, with broken concrete all over, and massive holes on the sides of the green. The golf cart breaks we're not working and the leather on the seat was completely ripped on the driver side. I've never been this disappointed with an experience anywhere. I was looking forward to this all day, and it was nothing but disappointments. read more

Hello my fellow golfers. I played Ed Oliver on Thursday July 2, 2020. The course it's is poorly kept. They over booked the amount of golfers to tee off. The course itself are poorly kept . The course direction from hold to hold are poorly label. The greens speed are to high. The fairways are really bad, the grass is either cut to short or to high. However there's a good side, course is very challenging and could be really fun if they clean the place up read more

Played here with my buddy who isn't very good and my girlfriend who just drove the cart and hung out with us. It's a very nice course and my friend would have played a lot worse if it wasn't in as good shape as it was. The staff was very friendly! Will checked us in at the pro shop and I don't think I stopped laughing once! Great guy I hope everyone gets to meet him and their was a ranger driving the cart who helped us find the 16th hole. 9/10 recommend! read more

If i could give negative stars that is what ed oliver would be getting. I have played here a handful of times, summer days, summer weekends, fall days, fall weekends, etc and every single shot we are waiting for 10 minutes. you tee off then you wait 10 min, then you hit and get on the green, putt and go to the next whole just to wait 10 minutes to tee off. then ypu go to your ball in the fairway(or atleast thats where mine always is) and wait another 10 minutes. IF YOU WANT TO WAIT EVERY SHOT COME HERE. you can never get in the flow of the game because these people make tee times 6 minutes apart. all they care about is money. their course is in horrible year round and its never fun going there because of the way they run it. ed oliver my message to you is change. you need to change big time because your tee times suck read more

I had my wedding at Ed Oliver Golf Club on April 29, 2017. The night before the wedding we had our Rehearsal Dinner and noticed that the banquet room was very warm. The thermostat was reflecting 80 degrees. We notified management and they ensured us that they had just turned the A/C on and it would be cool by the actual wedding. Needless to say, the A/C was broken and it ended up being of 90 degrees INSIDE during our wedding reception. Ed Oliver Golf Management had no backup plan, fans, portable A/Cs, etc. The majority of our guest left after dinner because the conditions were unbearable. After the wedding, we addressed our concerns again and we were offered 2 free golf passes. Our experience was absolutely terrible. I would never recommend anyone having their special event at this Golf Club. They are very unprofessional and have no resiliency plans in place. read more

Played with 3 buddies. This morning. Course was crowded as the weather was windy but overall great. We played in under 4.5 hours - perfect for. A Sunday. Course is in great shape. We held a small (35 people) luncheon at Ed Oliver Golf Club to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. What a wonderfully effortless and pleasurable experience! The room was lovely, the food was exactly what we wanted and the wait staff assigned to us was so cheerfully accommodating! It was as close to perfect as it could get, and it was very reasonably priced, to boot! We highly recommend Ed Oliver for small-medium private parties! read more

OK course. Worth it for $35 or less. Friendly staff. Fairways in better condition this year VS. Last. Pretty open layout, not 2 difficult. *Updated: They've updated the course with a new layout. $13.75 for one of the better breakfasts I've had. I can't understand why this place isn't really busy on Sundays, maybe people don't realize that this restaurant is on a public golf course. Let's do so marketing or not and me and the regular golfers can keep this place to ourselves. I took My son Joey for a bite to eat and we were very pleased when we left. The service was friendly and professional and although the place wasn't really busy we didn't feel out of place or rushed. Our server was attentive without being overly so, knowledgeable about the days features and was quick with table maintenance. Our meal consisted of my omelette that was filled with roasted red peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños and Swiss. Joey had the breakfast burrito. Both plates came with home fries, tossed with caramelized onions... Very good breakfast. Toast and OJ rounded out our meal. The location of this place is back in an old established wealthy neighborhood in Wilmington called Westover Hills. At one point it was the Wilmington Country Club. But has been owned by the county of New Castle for many many years. A great view out of the large dinning room windows leads to the Wilmington skyline. They have a deck which is huge and looks like a great spot to have lunch and watch the golfers of course when weather permits. I usually spend two to three times that at other local spots but I won't ever again, especially knowing that the food and service was that darn good. read more

This has to be the worst golf course I've ever played. The biggest problem is that there is almost no grass in the fairways. There are big bald spots everywhere, and where there aren't bald spots there's clumps of weeds. The bunkers are hard packed sand & not maintained. The only cart paths are from the green to the next tee box, so you're offroading in your cart most of the time (the ground is very, very bumpy in a lot of areas). As for the course design, the holes are pretty straightforward (literally). A few holes bend a bit right or left once you get less than 150 yards in. Most holes have greenside bunkers but outside of that, there are nearly no hazards. The greens aren't too bad, they are decently maintained and have some speed & break to them. The pro shop was well equipped and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately I resorted to simply chipping & putting after the 6th hole. read more

Porky's has come a long way since the irrigation and design changes a few years ago. The greens are in phenomenal shape, allowing the old-school complexes to shine. A few rough patches here and there, but a drastic improvement from years past. This course lets you miss big off the tee in most spots, but requires precision into the green. This makes it playable for newer players while still challenging lower handicaps to think their way around the course. We are lucky to have a public golf course like this in Wilmington. read more

Public course with meeting space/catering in clubhouse. I'm not reviewing the course. The catering and meeting space are good. Excellent parking, the catering was simple but well prepared and tasted good. The space is suitable for weddings or meetings; note that the room is windows on three sides, with a pretty veranda overlooking the course, so for meeting requiring darkened room and visual aids, maybe not as good. For a wedding or party, I think it's what you need. We held a meeting and it was comfortable and pleasant. The course itself could use a little work, the bunkers were rock hard, and the greens were brown but overall for a couple hours with an old buddy it was a good time. Man, rough shape is the only nice way to put it. Apparently, this used to be a nice course back in the day and I can imagine it being that way. The layout is nice and challenging but some parts look like you're playing in someone's backyard. The "grass" needs a makeover and it's a shame because the staff are very friendly and nice. We booked both of our daughters' wedding showers here. The first one was 2/3/19 and the second one is in April. From start to finish everything went great. From the first day we met Emma, the Director of Catering and Event Sales, she made us feel at ease with all of our planning; a natural and so professional. Really nice public course. Greens are well-maintained and there is evidence that they are working on the (minimal) rougher spots. Great clubhouse with snacks and drinks. Water and bathrooms on the course. Mostly par 4's; holes are pretty straight with fairly narrow fairways but fair number of fairway bunkers and a few dog-ears make things interesting. Loved this course and staff was very understanding. I added two people about two hours before tee time and there was no issues at all. Fairways were in awesome condition aside from a few spots, which I've dealt with at every course I've played. Putting greens were a bit challenging but in great condition. This course is going through a remodeling project. $4 million plus is being spent to enhance this old course. The fairways are growing back nicely due to an elaborate underground water irrigation system installed last year. New cart paths and new ponds. In addition a new par 5 on number 4! The greens are superb and will challenge the best players putting skills! Many closed areas considered rough are gone and the course has an openness but shots still must be straight. Fast play will be normal on the course. It's fun and still can be frustrating especially on any of the greens. read more

This is the third year we have held out Annual Holiday Luncheon at Ed Oliver Golf Club. The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive to our needs. Menu selection and room set-up were a breeze. And the ability of the staff to accommodate our changing agenda on the fly was impressive. The chicken and cod entrees were served efficiently and tasted great, despite our delay of schedule (due to last minute obligations of our guest speaker. We recently hosted my son's wedding rehearsal dinner at Ed Oliver Golf Club. We could not have been happier with how wonderful the evening was! First, Jessica was wonderful in helping us through the planning. She and her team did an excellent job setting up the room and catering to special requests.
