The Long Version: I actually really like the IKEA restaurant. It has a good selection of food at reasonable prices. Although in recent years, the prices have definitely increased. The restaurant is inside the IKEA store, it's not a standalone restaurant. I remember there were rumblings about piloting a standalone IKEA restaurant in Toronto many years ago in the late 2010s, but that has yet to materialize. However, they did open a standalone restaurant in London (England) in November 2024, which I believe is the first one. I would love it if they opened one here, lol. So the IKEA restaurant is like a cafeteria. You grab your own tray, cutlery, and drinkware. You line up and grab stuff out of the fridge yourself, like the cakes, pies, salads, and wraps. For hot food, staff will put it on a plate for you. Things like soup, you serve yourself. They also have samosas and garlic bread that are also self-service. Then you pay at the cash register. The coffee, hot water and soda dispensers are self-serve and you get those after you pay. You seat yourself and you put your own tray and dirty dishes away yourself. My husband and I recently had lunch at the IKEA restaurant. I got the plant balls meal ($7.99) and my husband got the pulled pork sandwich meal ($9.99). IKEA Family Card members get a free coffee or tea, otherwise the drinks are $1.50, but membership is free, so why not sign up? Lol. The plant balls meal came with 8 plant balls (vegetarian meatballs made with pea protein, oats, potatoes, onions and apples) covered in gravy and lingonberry sauce, peas, and either mashed potatoes or fries (I chose fries). Everything is from frozen, but it was still good. The pulled pork sandwich meal came with fries and coleslaw. My husband enjoyed it. I had a bite of the sandwich and the BBQ sauce mixed with the pork was really sweet, but otherwise it was good. The only tea option is Red Rose Orange Pekoe, so nothing fun or exciting, lol. For coffee they have regular and decaf. Unlimited refills. They only have regular sugar and cream or 2% milk. No sugar alternatives or non-dairy options. The one thing I don't like about this place is that it's almost always crowded. And the tables are often messy and sticky. Also lots of kids running around. I guess that's more than just one thing. Haha. Note that the IKEA restaurant is different from the IKEA Bistro. The Bistro is at the exit of the store and sells hot dogs, drinks and frozen yogurt/sorbets. And then there's our server, Celine--truly an 11 out of 10. I can't say enough good things about her. Drinks were never empty, platters were always full, and she handled a big, lively group with ease, warmth, and professionalism. The baked goods are fabulous. You must try their brownies! And of course a rotating lunch menu that is also delicious. The convenience store has lots of extras. Checkout the selection in the drink cooler including local kombucha and hard to find pop flavours. It also has a wall of homemade products like soaps and lip balms. On my most recent visit I had the Warm Goat Cheese and Walnut Salad and added a grilled chicken breast to it. I had this exact same dish at the Royal Oak on Centrepointe, and this location on Kent did it so much better. Firstly, the location on Kent used real mixed greens (and not just mixed greens on top of a huge pile of iceberg lettuce, like at Centrepointe). The panko-crusted goat cheese ball at the Kent location was also much bigger than at the Centrepointe location. The Kent location also had lots of bacon in the salad, whereas I didn't get any bacon in my salad at the Centrepointe location. The salad was bigger and much tastier at the Kent location. My husband had the liver and onions with fries. I had a few fries and they were great. Nice and crispy and tasted great with the gravy on the liver. I had a taste of some shared appetizers. There were some fish fingers and those tasted good. Crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The chicken wings were a bit on the small side, but good. The nachos were generously topped with toppings. Service was excellent. I think our server's name was Josh and he was really attentive. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and they really filled the glass, and as I was clinking glasses with others at the table, some of my drink spilled down the side of the glass.
