One of the best Japanese grill places I have been to. They have wide selection of meats and seafood and all of them taste delicious! Their bibimbap, takoyaki and creme brulee were nice surprises. Their service was excellent as well. While seating limit is 2 hours, I think that is more than enough time to try a variety of their food. Surely, by the end of 2 hours, all of us were pretty full! My only issue with Gyubee Japanese Grill is that it's really a Korean BBQ place. That said, the food is good ...because Korean bbq is good. lol Standard process: order meats, grill at your table, enjoy. A nice surprise is the mini crème brûlée desserts that they offer and the popsicles. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. Not only is the food delicious, they have great service. The ambiance is good, especially because you can have a conversation over the sound of a grill. Lots of meats and sides to choose from. Some of my favorites are the pork belly, king oyster mushrooms, kalbi and the bibimbap. You have a two hour window once you sit down. I would say the only issue is the wait times. I previously tried to get a table here on a friday night and the approximate wait was 5hrs! Its a very popular establishment so what I would recommend is keeping an eye on the waitlist on yelp throughout the day. We came as a group of 6 for lunch on Sunday and luckily was able to find a table since it seemed they were fully booked out other than our table. Their lunch menu is actually to me all you need at a all-you-can-eat place. For 27.99 value wise it's definitely there. Personal favorites were the sweet soy beef brisket, pork belly, and shrimp. We made the mistake of ordering too many vegetables on our first go-around so we were rushed at the end to cook all the meat. Overall, it's gyubee so you know what to expect. As we settled around our grill table, many folks were also enjoying their meals. The go-to dish here is the Sweet Soy Brisket, sliced thin to taste the buttery perfection. Sweet Soy Marinated Short Rib was more meaty & saltier but conveniently pre-cut from the bone. The lettuce wraps with spicy paste & jalapeño helped cut into the delicious albeit greasy bites. Top-up orders arrived quickly! Plump marinated shrimps were also succulent. We preferred the beef & shrimp over cuts of pork belly & chicken thigh. A small Bibimbap bowl with runny egg was a well-portioned side dish. The buttered corn, cold tofu, zucchini & mushrooms added variety to an otherwise meaty BBQ experience. Service was attentive. When the rendered pork belly fat charred our grill pan, it was promptly replaced. We even received staff greetings as we entered shop, similar to an izakaya experience. We came here for lunch during a weekday since our attempt for a weekend dinner was unsuccessful. They are super busy for dinner so I highly recommend joining the waitlist here on Yelp. You're looking at a 4 hour wait otherwise. Although we came for lunch, they offer their dinner menu all day, which is worth it in my opinion. Definitely a satisfying all-you-can-eat meal out with family or friends. We've been here twice and both times, we've gotten the dinner menu. The las time we were here was at lunch but we opted for the dinner menu because it includes many more options and we wanted a few of our friends, who had never been here, to have the full experience. The difference in price is $13 per person which is quite a bit. I think next time I would be happy just getting the lunch menu at lunch time as it has more of our favourites. My favourite things here are the: beel kalbi, beef shortrib, the marinated beef (all types), chicken thighs, chicken wings and shrimp. For veg, we like the pineapples, enoki mushrooms, jalepeno, garlic and zucchini. The sides are all pretty good. Faves include bean sprouts, kimchi, Ssamjang, lettuce I find the Bibimbap only okay but is a cook palate cleaser between all the meat. I wasn't a fan of the salmon or squid. Desserts are crême brulée and melona popsicles which are great. Service was friendly and quick. It's a great atmosphere usually. Overall rating 3.5-4 read more

Stumbled across this Japanese AYCE BBQ during my visit to Ottawa and it was definitely worth going to. It's actually worth the price if you're converting from USD to CAD and more worth it than going to a Japanese BBQ restaurant in NYC. If you don't know what to get first, I recommend asking to try a bit of everything on the menu. There are so many options to choose from for the dinner menu. Got there around 5pm to check in with the host. We weren't seated until 7:30/8pm. The quality and cut of the meats are perfect. The pre-marinated mests were also good. Not overly seasoned, some places they marinate with too much sauce or make it too salty. Not the case here. The only downside was when you order 1 of something it's one piece, so had to guess how many pieces would be enough when ordering for the group. Our server was good with trying to put in enough pieces for everyone when we said we wanted enough for 5 people. I also found that the grill was a bit small to cook that much food for 5 people. Now, this is the perfect place for me as I love BBQ and dont get tons of carbs shoved in my face. I tried shrimp, squid, pork, beef. Everything was undoubtedly delicious but noticed the pork belly was inconsistent. Second portion was really fat. The interior was okay but nothing exceptional. Wasn't impressed with some of the design decisions to split tables. Only reason I'm rating it lower is because as attentive as service was they constantly forgot one or two items of our order . I came here on Christmas Day for lunch and surprisingly they were open. It was the last day before the second covid lockdown so maybe that's why. The place was pretty busy. They have plastic screens between tables which is good. The food was ok, and I'm not sure if it's the same as Toronto or if I'm just less impressed with Gyubee after having it a few times. Sometimes you wake up and think, "man, I could just go for a Japanese BBQ all-you-can-eat experience." I decided to cave into my desires one day. Gyubee is immensely popular, so your best bet is just to reserve a table in advance. If you're like me who didn't prepare in advance, there's luckily a waitlist integrated with Yelp that you can use. You'll have to time your hopping into the waitlist properly since you can either join too late or too early, which will result in you having to rejoin at a much later time. Regardless, we managed to get ourselves a seat. Fu was our server, who was very bubbly and helpful; a definite highlight of our night. There are plenty of options to choose from, and there's going to be something that will be your favourite. Myself, I greatly enjoyed the miso and thick-cut pork belly, sweet soy marinated short rib, tofu, and sake-steamed clams. There are also dessert options; you only get one Melona ice cream bar, but an unlimited supply of creme brulee to eat to your heart's content. So this is a definite recommendation. A few things I'll suggest you do if you want to dine here: 1. Going during lunch is about $10 cheaper. 2. Reserve a table. 3. An emptier stomach is all the more satisfying once you start feasting. 4. I mean... it's Japanese BBQ what can go wrong... Really, this place is very good. Pricey? Kind of, depending on if you eat a lot or not. The staff are very attentive, they come around quite a bit to make sure you have everything you want, and the food comes out quick. My friends and I came at lunch time around 15 minutes after it opened (on a week day as well) so that could also be why service was so fast. The lunch menu, albeit smaller than the dinner, is very good. I like how you can actually get the dinner menu during lunch hours too so maybe that'll be my next trip haha!!
