I visited last Saturday night in a party of 6, eating at 8pm. we arrived slightly early so as to have a drink before dinner, first impression wasn't great as there were a huge collection of dirty glasses on the bar, oddly despite the fact that various members of staff were milling about, no one seemed to be that interested in moving or cleaning them. We took a table in the corner of the bar and were immediately aware of a gale force wind emanating from the air conditioning vent above our table. We asked for this to be turned down, the staff member informed us that it would be taken care of - it wasn't. Not until the we asked for a fourth time did the wind cease. Venturing out of the bar and into the toilet area, a general level of untidiness was again obvious. The used towel bins were completely overflowing and there was no toilet roll - I'm reliably informed that the situation was mirrored in the ladies toilet. It was around this point that we released the time had moved on towards 8:30 and we were yet to be taken to our table. upon inquiry we were informed that the table was indeed ready... why we hadn't been informed is anyone's guess. We were taken to our table a young man who immediately informed us that he didn't have enough menus, so we would have to share... he went off to look for more but never returned. This all seemed very odd given that the restaurant was little more than half full (lucky for us, how much worse could it have been??). Once again some time passed until we flagged down a passing waitress, she fetched a wine menu which the previous waiter had failed to provide, she was also able to hunt down additional menus with little trouble. The lady proceeded to inform us that she was very busy running two sections and wouldn't be able to give us too much attention. Given the incompetence of everyone we'd deal with thus far, this didn't seem like a bad thing, although it's always nice to know as a paying customer that there are other people somewhere else who are a higher priority that you - the true essence of good service and why people are happy to pay inflated prices at restaurants such as this (no.. wait a second?). Clearly noticing that our spirits were at a low ebb, the waitress decided to really lock in the bad feeling by giving us what could only be described as a 'warning' not to order the tasting menu unless we all wanted it. It sounds like I'm going over the top but we really were made to feel like naughty school children - crazy! The next disappointment came only moments later when the waitress returned to take our orders. Given it had only been about 60 seconds since we'd received our menus, it was unsurprising that no one was ready to order. I ordered some wine but was amazed by the waitresses complete lack of knowledge on the subject, especially considering the wine list contains little more than 20 different bottles!! This was highlighted when rather than repeating my order in confirmation the waitress quoted back the reference number from the menu - as if I were ordering food in a Chinese takeaway! From this point on I was continually irked throughout the meal as every time I ordered wine it was taken to another member of our table. We were only offered the opportunity to try the first bottle, I suppose all subsequent bottles were assumed to be in a suitable condition based on my review of the first. To be fair the wine was excellent, but credit here should go to the supplier rather than the restaurant. After an inordinately long wait our food arrived. before we could start a young man gave us a verbal overview of our dishes, I can only assume from his stuttering delivery that this was indeed his first night on the job, if so then it seems to unfair to criticise too much. When the food finally did arrive it was the absolute definition of mediocrity. Remarkable for nothing more than the stingy small portions and distinct lack of either quality ingredients or creativity. Vanilla is the word that springs to mind. The Peanut Parfait and Espresso Martini deserve a special mention - the former was rock hard to the point where it was impossible to eat and the other was simply disgusting - undrinkable. Cheese get an honorable mention - very pleasant... although once again, credit to the supplier rather than the restaurant. Throughout the meal the air-conditioning saga continued. it was eventually resolved shortly before we left and a comfortable temperature was restored, albeit a little late. The final insult was the bill, weighing in at a budget busting £420 - not including drinks in the bar. We paid and left... never to return. This place was more fun when it was a police station, and the food was probably better too.

It's situated on the site of the old police head quarters and is a great improvement to the area- with the addition of the hotel, cafe bar and outdoor seating too. Beautiful outlook over the racecourse makes the whole time there all the more pleasurable. That said the food is ofcourse the main attraction. You can choose up to 5 courses, which I would call starter-size. Its not quite tapas or a taster menu, but is an interesting idea. There are plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails and a wide selection of spirits and wines too. Unfortunately on this occasion we were on our own in the dining room (Sunday dinner) which was a bit strange and also the wind was howling round the building and the heavy rain did not help (hence not decent pictures as the room is quite dark), but i would come back again. You can also hire out there private room for £75 per person, up to 24 people.

My husband got a drink from him, I ordered tea and that was brought to me by a smiling Alex. we then ordered a snack, we weren't hungry but the smells coming out from the restaurant or kitchen were gorgeous! Husband ordered Halloumi fries and I ordered a slice of apple pie with ice cream. This was brought o to the table by the happy, chatty, Sophie. They made us feel like regulars, and were very happy to see us. we were made very welcome, even as the place was starting to get busier. We were even given a lovely goodbye as we left. We feel like this place is going to become our home from home .........

I came one evening for dinner and ordered fish and chips. They warned me that it would be 45 minutes and at dinner that was fine. I was having a couple beers and conversation. I came back for lunch the next week and ordered a sandwich. It took a solid hour. My colleague ordered a burger, and after 40 minutes they came and informed us that they had no buns. Another 15 minutes and they had buns. But it seems like they went 40 minutes before they even figured out that didn't have buns. So prices are average. Quality is average. Location is whatever. But service is slower than slow.

Once in the passenger seat, he guided me to the nearest car park and carried my bags back to hotel for me. A service many so called 5star hotels would be hard pushed to emulate. A fair sized room with large double bed welcomes and an archway leads off to one side where you'll find a complimentary tea and coffee bar, complete with mineral water. Which you may require after the 2am license. The ensuite was more than generous; His 'n' Hers sinks, full sized bath, lavatory and separate big headed shower/ mini wet room, with rain bars and that.

Because my beloved unsweetened iced tea has proved elusive in the UK I chose a Coca-Cola for my beverage. My server asked me if I would like it with "ice and a slice", which made me laugh. It took me a moment to realize she meant a glass of ice and a lemon wedge, which of course I accepted. So I chose my entrée and paid and then sat. The girl who took my order was very pleasant. She brought my food and also checked on me a few times to make sure everything was OK and even offered to change the program on the television since I was the only person in the room. My fish and chips was piping hot and came with an assortment of sauces, including brown sauce, which I had never tried, but that was very good. I tend to read labels, so I was pleased to see that none of the nasty ingredients American food can contain were in it. The fish was cooked to perfection with the crisp of the outside and the tender inside, and the chips were really good. Peas were done perfectly. It came with an ample amount of tartar sauce or at least what I would call it. It was very flavorful. I would definitely recommend this to someone who enjoys a good meal and some live music, which unfortunately I had to miss due to my schedule. It appears they have live music often and the server said it gets busy in the 9pm hour. The cool thing too is that this place is also a hotel so you could stay upstairs as well. I regret I didn't take any additional pictures of the building because it looked historical and had some charm.

The Saddle is simply a Rock Bar which isn't overly priced and isn't pretentious. The food isn't half bad and it's definitely worth siting in on their open mic nights. Examples Sweet potato fries delivered as traditional fries, and cold. Explanation was that the menu is changing so that's what you get now, no apology and no mention at ordering. Sliders were in fact a normal bun cut into quarters (you get two quarters)

The rooms aren't up to the same standard as the reception but are still perfectly acceptable. The staff were friendly enough, especially at breakfast time. Plenty of free car parking available which you need to take a code from reception to exit. Can't comment on the health club as I didn't have time to use it. Overall a good example of a holiday inn, but slightly overpriced.

It's with regret that I have to update my review for Hilton Liverpool City Centre, after a recent…read morestay here, it's become clear to me that the hotel isn't close to deserving a five-star rating. While the hotel may be good at sorting out problems when they arise, there seems to be a problem either big or small, or a combination of them, which arises whenever I stay at this property to the point where I feel they can't deliver a trouble and worry-free stay. I've had issues ranging from the fire alarm going off to having to change rooms in the middle of the night and being overcharged to state a few. On my most recent stay, I was originally charged for my "free upgrade" as a Diamond member and had to send proof of my original room rate to be refunded the difference and I also had an issue with breakfast. The location remains excellent, it's located right next to the Liverpool One Shopping Centre, and rooms have views of the centre, as well as Albert Dock... or on the other side of the hotel, the less exciting bus terminal. I do think the rooms are outdated, on my most recent stay, I was placed in a King Executive Room on the sixth floor, which was a free upgrade as a Hilton Honors Diamond Member. The room felt very dark due to a lack of lighting and a dark colour scheme with red/burgundy, also there was only one bed-side plug socket, which was very low down, on one side of the bed only, and I had to unplug the alarm to use it, so the rooms could certainly be due an upgrade to bring them into 2024. The lobby is very visually pleasing and modern, and this doesn't match the state of some of the rooms. Even the TV, was visually in poor shape, it was old and small. The noise insulation also is poor, it's fairly easy to hear people's conversations as they pass by. The facilities inside the regular rooms are fine, I did find the desk area to be very compact with a bar that would get in the way. There wasn't a coffee machine, robes or slippers in the non-suites either. I liked how they had both a bath and standalone shower, but I found the bathroom again to be poorly executed, the taps on the sink were close to the edge, it was impossible to wash my hands without knocking into it and the controls of the taps and shower remain difficult to manage. Breakfast standards are also inconsistent, I've had both good and bad breakfasts here. On my most recent stay, I decided to order breakfast in my room. There was originally confusion regarding the time of breakfast, and even the front desk couldn't tell me for sure what time breakfast ended. The tray charge for breakfast is very misleading, it turned out that if you have breakfast included, you must pay a £3.50 upgrade fee to have it in your room AND a tray charge on top of that of £6. That means just to have Breakfast in my room, it cost me £9.50. It'd turn out very expensive if you had to pay the breakfast rate on top of that. To add insult to injury, my breakfast just didn't taste good. The orange juice tasted like bitter cordial, the eggs were cold and bland, the single slice of gluten-free toast had no butter, and they also put black pudding on the plate which I didn't ask for (and found disgusting), the omelette also was over-cooked and the cheese was far too strong. The Executive Lounge at the hotel also is a great idea but poorly executed, they have a hotel with stunning views of Liverpool and Albert Dock, but the Lounge is a tiny room on the ground floor, in the Lobby, with no windows looking outside. Alcoholic Drinks and canapes are available between 6 and 8 PM and are self-serve style with a selection of spirits which I certainly enjoyed. My bed and pillows were comfortable and I did manage to sleep reasonably well, I am normally able to check in early and request a later check-out at this hotel too, which is another positive and felt mostly valued as a Diamond member despite the large surcharge for breakfast in bed. Overall, there are some positives, the location is good and the staff are mostly friendly, I would consider staying here again depending on the price point but it would not be my first-choice. 3*
