Almost a yearly tradition for my family, the Edgewater Resort is a nice escape to a tropical climate when it is actually below zero outside in the heart of a Minnesota winter. We mainly come here for the waterpark. The waterpark has a nice selection fo things to do. There is a large hot tub for heating up, a lazy river, kiddie pool area, activity pool, and a few slides. You can also grab food and drinks while at the pool. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and hot tub as well as a mini golf course. Oh and don't forget the coffee shop as well. If you are lucky enough to score a balcony room, you can get great views of Lake Superior and downtown Duluth. The hotel is pretty close to famous attractions in Duluth like Canal Park and the Glensheen Mansion, as well as an assortment of parks and beaches making it a great place to set up camp. The hotel rooms are standard and some of their are large, which is nice for bigger families. This place is fairly busy no matter what season it is, so book early to get the best rates and rooms. read more

Prices are the same for whether they have all there amenities available or half of them they don't care. They'll tell you but if not convenient they just won't have certain amenities open. Rooms are terribly outdated, most hotels around the area have remodeled many times since this has been touched. Broken tile on floors in rooms and main walking areas. Make changes for the people who keep the lights on for you! Also only attenna TVs really. Check into the 21st century people. Hopefully Wyndham does something to better this place! read more

My mom and I stayed here a few weeks back for a long weekend and it was pretty awful. Let me start by saying that we've been coming here for about 20 years now every Summer, and it's slowly been going down hill, but this time was the absolute worst, and if they don't change, we will not be returning. I'll start by saying that the girl at the front desk wasn't welcoming at all. Which is fine, I can get over that. Next, after getting into our room, we tried turning the on the TV and it didn't work. Kind of a bummer, but new batteries from the front desk did the trick. So far though, not exactly a great experience. Then comes the worst part- our room looked pretty disgusting. The carpet feels like it's been saturated with carpet cleaner without being rinsed, so you feel a film on your feet. The light switch for the bathroom was straight up nasty- caked in dirt. The side of the air conditioner where it meets the carpet was black with splatters and drips from who-knows-what, and the carpet was torn in that corner and filled with dust. Above the bathroom mirror were dried drips from some sort of liquid. Pictures of all this are included in this post. With that being said, however, the beds seemed clean, which we were thankful for. Outside of the hotel room are two chairs- great! However the sidewalk where you walk and sit was cracked with gouging holes- easily a tripping hazard. And the ceiling above the door was bubbled and cracked and looked gross (also in attached pictures). So yeah, not really a paradise of a place. One last thing- we went up to the bar to get drinks and wanted to play foosball, which we didn't end up playing because turns out we need to PAY to use the balls. As if they weren't getting enough of our money already. It's not a big deal, but just kind of the principle of the thing. Considering what they charge to stay here in the summer, it needs extreme repairs. It's gotten pretty dumpy. We'll spend the extra couple bucks and stay somewhere nicer next time because it's worth it. ......just found out that they over charged us by $70, too. Well we pulled up and from the outside this place is old, so it should be no surprise then that the inside is old as well To be fair, the place is kid friendly with the waterpark, pools, arcade and mini golf (golf needs repair);and the kid enjoyed all that The place is also dog friendly for a fee Our room wasn't the cleanest heavy dust on top of the tile baseboards. Dirt on the tile floors in the corners by the tub and behind bathroom door. Wallpaper on the walls was stained or bubbling, paint on door trim was stained or peeling off. My parents and sister got a 2 room suite with the upgraded shower having multiple shower heads on all sides of the shower. Of the shower heads only 2 originally worked until maintenance fixed something. There was garbage in their room under chair cushions and hair on the pillows. Although we complained just after check in, it took them until the next day mid morning to even get the garbage out. Outside walking trails have no pet bags in the dispensers to get rid of the pet waste. And after asking if we or they were responsible they said they would handle that but never did. There was movie night but they kept telling us it would be outside when we asked multiple times. Unfortunately they played the movie indoors and never told us. By the time we found out there was 2 minutes left. For the prices we paid we should have stayed at one of the places downtown by the water. I wouldn't come back here and if it was the only place avail i would go up the hill. With work this place could be nice again but would need some updating, maintenance etc... Literally the worst hotel I've ever been to! I've been to better motels than this. None of the rooms were ready for the guests when we arrived. Well over 10 rooms if not more were not ready. We were told to wait outside while they were finished cleaning. Got to our room and only the beds were made. Hair in the bath tub, no soap or towels. Did I mention the water park? It's not open except from 4pm- 10pm because they're "short staffed" was the excuse. They told us it's not like this usually... so we asked for a refund or some type of credit because well what are we supposed to do with the children stuck in hotel rooms now because everything is closed. They offered us a free pizza... for a 1100 dollar stay to go swimming and enjoy a relaxing fun weekend. This place is a f***ing joke. read more

I took my kids to the waterpark this evening. This is our second time going and I think it may be worth a drive to another park. Some of the same issues existed last time but I was hoping they were things that were going to be fixed. WRONG. The seams on the body slide are so rough that it scrapes your back all the way down. The hot tub is barely warm. The lifeguards are sarcastic, grumpy and inattentive. I watched a young man walk laps around the kids slide at a high speed only glancing over to the kids from time to time. The room was ok, smelled musty. Stayed in the older motel, not the main building. Fan in the bathroom was broken. pool area was clean with small kids enjoying the hot tub unsupervised while parents drank beers. The rooms were no smoking, nice balcony (great view) with chairs but no place to put the butts. Woke up to the chairs outside out room moved with several bottles of beer and garbage scattered all over, Breakfast was $7.99 and had basics with variety of hot items in heaters didn't appear to be freshly made. With the price of the room and quality of food, breakfast should've been included. We were provided with 4 wristbands to the Waterpark but only used two, non refundable for non used bands. we were in the actual hotel building which was more expensive than the others.. can't imagine what those ones look like!! gross rooms that looked like they hadn't been properly cleaned in a year.. random popcorn kernels and hair on the floor in the bathroom, mildew growing in the shower, and the edges of the room all had a nasty buildup of lint and other gross crap. We also found a complementary half drank mountain dew on the outside balcony table.. yikes. Couldn't have been worse. We got there at about 3:00 and we were already pretty tired, but checking in was a hassle, there was a long ass line from the door to the desk and there was only one person working at the front desk. When we finally got into our room, we settled in and realised the tv wouldn't turn on, new batteries worked from the front desk. This is where it gets bad, my mom was closing the blinds because the sun was going down and was blinding, as she was closing them, she notice a little blood on it... Other than that and the pool being way too cold and the hot tub being way too hot, it was pretty good. Okay, I am not a fan of chlorine pools, but my nine year old daughter does love this little park. We have friends that drive up from the Cities and love to meet here. It consists of a large play area for all ages with small slides and a large bucket that dumps every few minutes. There is a lazy river that meanders around. Two larger water slides (but small compared to other water parks). A hot tub area and a few pools set up for games (rope course, balls, whirlpool, etc.) The best part is the excessive number of lifeguards walking around. Feels safe and I am yet to hear of any incidences here. We ordered a couple of pizzas that were pretty good too. read more

To the poor soul(s) who died here (see photos), I hope you are not trapped in the nightmare hellscape that is this room. There are many fun things to do in this room--playing guess what made that stain (seriously look at the photos), never let your bare feet touch the ground, eavesdrop on the two other rooms conversations you can easily hear, and one I'll be playing even after we leave--will the mold in the bathroom make me sick? Honestly what's the point in waiting for 4 to check in when clearly no one has cleaned our room in a LONG time... there are cobwebs under the non working heater, a dead fly (RIP) mashed on the door to the bathroom, and what I assume is some blood on the ceiling. Plus side--the gym is actually quite nice, and our room had a towel elephant!!! read more

I have always loved the Edge; we stay usually several times a year. I feel we won't be coming back anymore unless I start hearing better things about it as I won't be paying my hard earned money to take that risk! We stayed Friday night, stayed in a suite that had the bunk bed for the kiddies, and all the kids ended up having to sleep on the floors. We pulled the dirty ripped up mattresses on the floor after awhile because it was just too uncomfortable sleeping in just blankets. We arrived late (7-8pm) as what we came to Duluth for had taken longer than we thought would so we wanted to swim right away since the water park closed at 10. The park and experience there was great as usual. It was when we got back to the room, ate, took showers, and got ready for bed. My daughter was sitting on the top bunk when a little black bug like a beetle was crawling on my daughters arm. I got curious and lifted the mattresses and we found so much old food, droppings, old socks, and other things ppl lost along the way. The fries that were found under the bunk and mattresses were so old you couldn't even get the one out that was stuck in between the wood without breaking it. It was rock hard and wedged between the boards. This led us to look around more, crumbs/small pieces of food under the table, toilet paper & old wrist band behind the dresser, and old food pieces under the mini fridge. The room appeared decent from walk through eye view. Once you started to move things around you found the filth. This all was discovered between 11-12, the front desk guy(only staff member on) was kind and did what he could, there were no available rooms that would have fit us, and the best he could do was get us extra bedding to make beds on the floor! This was a room that costs 237.99 a night! We paid 178.99 with a discount to sleep on floors with bugs, old food, what looks like droppings, and filth. Management was not helpful the next morning. Stating she could only offer a 25% discount for the inconvenience. After telling her I could have paid for a shitty little motel and it would have been cleaner without sleeping on floors for way less and demanded better she made a phone call and said she could offer a 75% discount after that. We were credited $75 back rather than the percentage offered. They must think this is funny. Whoever is running this shit hole are crooks. DO NOT STAY HERE! IT HAS GONE DOWNHILL AND THEY WILL NOT MAKE IT RIGHT OR COMPENSATE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. I was always one that said positive things when others slammed this place as we always had an amazing experience. Believe the reviews. It is filthy and overpriced for the stay. We were in Duluth for a wedding.. this place was filthy... service at front desk was awful... I wish I had known before how bad this place was because I would have stayed somewhere else.. We did not come for the pools... black mold in bathroom... there was nothing nice about the room either... I have been to the edge water park a 5 times in the past but my last visit this month to the hotel and water park was more awful than usual. The water park area was freezing cold the floors were like ice, and the restrooms were discusting. The chemicals in the water burned mine and my child's eyes. We waited for 1/2 An hour for 1 order of french fries and when we recieved them they were freezing cold. Our room was next to a room that was being fumigated. Sigh.... Heavily considering the edge to no longer be on my getaway list. read more

My wife, 2 year old son and myself stayed there on 12/12/15 for the Bentlyville Lights. Our hotel room was adequate at best. It was cleanish but did have a few cobwebs in the corners. The bath tub faucet was not properly installed and looked like a less than qualified person installed it. The highway noise didn't bother us, my son loved looking at the trucks drive by. The train ride was loved by all our family seen as how my son is a huge train fan. The biggest disappointment I have with our stay was the so called "buffet". It felt like we were at a high school grad party with vinyl table cloths and a very poorly designed room. It was dark and was WAY out of the way for almost all guests. The walk from the main hotel is depressing at best, it is not well kept with old carpet and many things needed repair. While we ate we noticed plates still on tables the whole time we were there and the so called buffet line had food scraps on the table that should have been cleaned up and the food was cold and the worst I've ever had. The coffee was bland and the juice tasted like watered down sunny d. The wait staff didn't seem friendly and couldn't keep up with the amount of people having breakfast. I would rather spend my money at Perkins or a local restraunt. We will not be staying here in the future, most likely spending our money in canal park!! This hotel needs some serious upgrades to keep people coming back. For being Duluths only water park it is far below my expectations. Take your money elsewhere. read more

If you're staying here with a Groupon, then it's worth it. Otherwise for their normal rates, I think they are overselling themselves as a "waterpark". The views from their outdoor heated pool and balconies (which also not only face the lake, but the freeway as well) are beautiful. The rooms have been updated a bit over the years and you're right by an overpass entrance to the Lake Walk. There's a Dunn Brothers right across the street from the hotel as well as a couple other restaurants within walking distance. If you're not setting your expectations too high, then I think you'll be satisfied in staying here. read more

My family of 5 stayed at this hotel/water park for my kids spring break. We chose this hotel because many friends said it was great, we found other than that. We drove for 5 hours and arrived at 10:30 pm expecting a warm welcome. As we were checking in, the employee could not keep his eyes open! He only gave us 4 water park bracelets instead of 5. Then we went to are room and it was definitely way too small for our family and the bath tub had black mold, the room was not cleaned throughly, the toilet and the door broke too. We asked for a room change because of these reasons. We went to our new room hoping for a cleaner/bigger room, it was bigger and seemed better until we realized the paint was pealing, there was dirt in corners, the curtain had holes in it and it was not very clean. Then I realized that I forgot my earrings in the other room we moved out of, immediately I called the front desk and they transferred me to the lost and found, they did not pick up so I left my name, number and the past room. They didn't call me back so I called again the next morning. The front desk said they couldn't do anything about it because there was another family in the room. At this point I was very upset on why they couldn't have just ran over and looked quick. I left with out my earrings from a company that shut down. Worst experience in a long time. One would think for the money there would be a few perks. The rooms were uncleaned and unmade when we checked in forcing two calls to the desk in the first moments here. The food is atrocious with the entire hotel basing out of a pool side grill. Two of my party fell ill with food related illness. NO Coke products!-they attempted to pass off pepsi for coke. Upper lounge, sunrise lounge, didn't have a stocked bar. We were hesitant to try this place out due to some poor reviews but went ahead anyway & glad we did. The room we booked was not available (king w/a fireplace & jacuzzi), so they gave us a suite for the same price which included 2 queens & a king. We didn't need more beds to sleep in but whatever they tried. The a/c went out & maintenance left for the day so the room did get stuffy. Beds were not comfortable at all. But I guess we didn't come for those, we came for the waterpark! The waterpark is a very good size & has fun for every age, even adults. Be aware there are a lot of people always here! There is a little play area for smaller kids. My 16 month old had fun in this area, for the most part. There were buckets overhead that would fill and fall. In my opinion, they get too full & come down w/a lot of force which forced her head into the sandpaper like platform rubbing her chin raw. I felt awful but of course she cried a few minutes and wanted to keep playing. Tons of slides of all sizes for all! A very good place to bring the children. Plenty of life guards on patrol. This water park caters to children and adults as myself who never learned how to swim. The deepest pool is about 3'8". Very clean and friendly staff. The room rates are great for seniors and employee discounts such as MERSC. Our room had a view of Lake Superior which was gorgeous even in the winter. Free breakfast or your choice of a breakfast buffet or a quick breakfast from the grill. The grill is located in the water park and there is another lounge/bar located on the 4th floor. I traveled from Minneapolis to visit and the only complaint I have is that on the brochure it stated they have "guest laundry" which to me and my fiance' meant free since they didn't mention "coin operated" or "for a fee". The "guest laundry" consisted of one washer and one dryer o_o and it costs $1.25 or $1.50 for both. It was very disturbing since we had to walk pretty far just to get to the damn closet lol it was literally a closet with a stacker washer and dryer and to find out we had to pay urrg which of course we didin't have quarters with us, I mean who walks around with quarters? so I felt mislead a little ok a lot but other than that our stay was pleasant and check out is at 12, we don't see that much anymore. If you are a big swimmer and looking for deep water this place is def not for you. Oh and they have rooms with bunk beds which I think is brilliant. Wow! What an awesome, fun place for the whole family, with some low points, but, overall, it was great. For handicapped accessibility, it was really bad for me. First, going in the entrance, they directed us to the elevator to go to the room we needed. The wheelchair would not fit, not even a standard wheelchair would fit. We asked the front desk where another entrance with a bigger elevator would be, and they said to go outside and around the building where there is another entrance with a bigger elevator. We head outside down the sidewalk, down a hill, and there is no more sidewalk. There were big rocks and no sidewalk ramp to go down, so KayMarie and I go up the hill and back to where we started to go down the only sidewalk ramp. To get to this entrance with a bigger elevator, we had to go in the parking lot back down the hill. It was dangerous. A car could have backed up or been driving fast around corners. Then, we get to the entrance, but the main doors were too small, so I had to stand up, have the wheelchair brought in around me, (people are standing there waiting, so it was embarrassing), and, then, I swing into the chair. Luckily, I can stand and swivel around, but another person may not have that option. The elevator was bigger, thank god, so now up to the room... The room door was too small, so I had to do my transfer thing. I got in the room, but not enough to turn around to go into the room. And, there was furniture and beds that only left narrow walkways around the room. So, what I had to do was...sit in the hallway, while everyone else was in the nice, cool room. Now, we are going to the waterpark. All doors on the way are still too small for the wheelchair, so have to do my transfer thing. Not knowing that there is anything for the handicapped to do, I didn't bring extra clothes to get wet in. There was nothing on their website indicating wheelchair accessible activities, and no maps or signs showing wheelchair accessibility, so I just sat there and took pictures. I had to go to the bathroom, and, once again, the door into and all other parts of the handicapped restroom were too small. So, I did my transfer thing again, but it was very dangerous. The floor was so wet and slippery, that I could have easily fallen. Jodi and KayMarie had to help me. Jodi slipped in the bathroom. And, I had to stand up to use the bathroom. It was very dangerous. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they put a wheelchair sign on the door with flooring like that. My family and I had been in the waterpark all afternoon, 4-5 hours, and were ready to leave, and a nice lifeguard told us something shocking. The lifeguard tells us where wheelchairs can go in the water at. We had been there all day, no one had told us about that, and there were no signs. We told the lifeguard thank you and that no one had told us that, but we are leaving now. But, most important, the kids had fun, and that made it worthwhile. Jodi went down the waterslide and liked it. KayMarie enjoyed the lazy river, but was afraid to go down the waterslide. Christopher and Jonathan enjoyed everything. They had so much fun, and I'm glad I was able to get pictures and videos. We had lunch there at the waterpark, and the food was good. Pricing was ok. You get decent portions for the money. Jodi and I had cheeseburgers and fries that were good, but not like OMG. KayMarie had a garden salad that was really nice-sized and had a good vegetable assortment. If you enjoy 90 degree rooms and showers that don't drain, this is the hotel for you. Bloody curtains with holes pair well with the 50 flies that swarm the rooms. The pool area is great if you like the smell of cheesy feet and B.O. If you are working on your aim, the 3 inch diameter toilets are excellent practice, and if you miss, you can clean up with the hands towels that they say are full size. Don't worry about cleaning your room, the room service doesn't worry either seeing as they didn't make the beds. Hopefully you are reading this before you check in because the "free WiFi" doesn't work at all. All in all, it was worth the 200+ a night in the classic building. read more

I've used you many times in the past and have never had a problem until this past Friday. We arrived at the Edgewater Hotel and Waterpark which is booked through Travelocity. It was the most disgusting place I've ever stayed. There was mold all over the bathroom and you could also see mold all over under the paint where they tried to cover it up. Floors weren't vacuumed, broken towel rack in shower, air exchanger was caked with dust, cigarette butts all over the floors, trash all over the parking lots, wall paper bubbling off the walls, burnt out lights, beds were hard, pillows were hard and disgusting, sticky bathroom floor, carpet was coming apart, looked like blood on the bathroom walls, waterpark was over capacity, and I was charged $250 which was more than the amount I got from Travelocity! It's a solid spot with a great location. Prices are seasonable and the food is tolerable. If possible get a room away from the pool area. My kids always have fun at the indoor water park. If we hadn't gotten a special fare because of a sick relative in a nearby hospital, we wouldn't have stayed here. This is a newer facility but has the look and feel of one that is quite run down. The carpets are stained and the rooms are nothing special. I will give props for the view. We were lakeside, and you would be hard- put to get a better view than one of their balcony rooms. Of course it is mostly vacated by families and cannot be expected to be perfect; however, they have 1 overworked elevator and their front desk is understaffed. The outdoor pool is nice, with a nice view. They have mini golf and a small basketball court. It should be noted that the bar has last call at 11:00. We had to buy a pair of swimtrunks for my husband and were able to do so for about $20. Canal Park is about 5 minutes away. The arcade is no better than the average casino arcade. We didn't order food there- No point, with the cuisine available for takeout in Duluth. read more

This place was recommended by a town person. First very old and terribly outdated. Bedding was new and nice towels but that was it!!! Rooms we in sad shape and areas of black mold. Bathrooms were terrible. Cost us 156.00 and then had to pay extra for the breakfast. It does offer water slide etc for children but NOT A RESORT by any stretch of your imagination. The kids had fun, but we were very disappointed with the room. At over $250 a night I expected the room to at least be in working order. Upon arrival we noticed the toilet did not work as the handle was clearly broken and dangling, and the toilet continuously ran very loudly. I immediately called the front desk and they let me know the maintenance person would be right over. The kids were anxiously waiting to swim but after an hour passed and no maintenance person I called down to the front desk again. They apologized and said someone would be right over. We went down to the pool area and the two eldest were ready to go back to the room to rest around 8pm. To our surprise, the toilet was still noisy and we were still unable to use the bathroom in our room. I did not feel comfortable with the two girls being alone in the room with this maintenance man so as the girls were getting settled, they informed me that the worker was finally there. Sure enough I had to pull the four younger kids out of the pool to rush back up to the room. Once we got to the room the girls said the man had already left and said he had fixed the problem. Well, the problem indeed was not fixed after one flush and the noise made for a long night. Not impressed. read more

This is a great place for families with younger children but they lack amenities for teens and adults. My younger brother and I were waiting to get him a prize at the arcade and the staff member appeared to be quite stressed out. There were several younger children surrounding us and when she realized a group of boys left a couple prizes at the desk she said "what the f***". It was completely uncalled for and did not need to be said around such young ears. That's not all either, my mother and father were arranging the sheets and came across blood stains on the mattress pad. They immediately called down and requested a clean one. The man who brought it to our room did not even offer to help and we struggled to do it on our own. Then we had to check the other beds just to make sure they were clean.
