I've been faithfully driving 25 minutes here for the past 8 years! Yes... you have to call in early in the morning to preorder. Otherwise, you may have to wait over an hour to get your order. Yes... I will always order to pickup lunch because the dinner rush is too crazy. But YESSS... I will make it a priority to get here every Friday because it is the best beer battered fish and haluski combo in the Burgh!! They are open 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, but the phone lines open at 10:00 AM. When I pickup my order around 12:30 PM, I can see them crossing out available order times (Today, only 3:30 was left available). The prices are super reasonable - photo attached. The food is out of this world. Yuengling Battered Cod that is so crisp and crunch that you'll dream of it. Haluski that is so buttery and flavorful that you wonder how in the heck does a fire department make this in bulk. Coleslaw that is so simple yet so creamy that it perfectly balances the oil overload from the other items. This place is legit sooooo good that they've started to open the first Friday of October and November... and it literally sells out instantly too!!! If they didn't also fight fires, I'd think this should just be turned into a restaurant. They are on every list always for Best Fish Fry. They have merch. Fish Fry Tshirts and Fire Helmets for kids. You can eat in the fire truck garage or take it to go. The systems that they have are so perfect... this place is customer service at its finest.

The biggest advice I can offer: CALL AHEAD TO ORDER. THEY WILL SELL OUT! There is a reason they sell out so early: the food is phenomenal, and so are the people. The fish is fresh, crispy, and full of flavor. The sides are the epitome of comfort food. We ordered the pierogi, the mac and cheese, and the French fries, and they were all perfect pairings with the fish. We also ordered a beer battered grilled cheese because we just had to know what it tasted like, and it did not disappoint. If you like crispy, cheesy, and carby, this sandwich is for you. When we moved in, the apartment was very dirty and still had some furniture in it (chairs and a bed frame) as well as multiple bags of trash on the porch. We had to vacuum four times before we finally got all the cat hair out of our apartment that doesn't allow pets. Pipes had to be replaced that ran through our bedroom wall, so naturally they came, tore the wall to shreds, replaced the pipes, then left the wall completely open. It only got fixed after multiple emails begging for someone to fix it, and several weeks later, that wall still hasn't been painted to match the rest of the room. Maintenance workers have on multiple occasions showed up unannounced to do work. Just recently I came home to my toilet completely taken apart with no knowledge of what happened or if it could even be used. When I called the company they said they weren't sure what happened. Our fridge light doesn't work, our screen door is off the track, our bathroom had a moldy ceiling when we moved in, and we still have an unpainted bedroom wall. All of this and we've only lived here for three months so far.

The guy at the deli counter was super friendly. While I was there I picked up 2 pre-made dinners (portions were easily for 2) --- pumpkin risotto & pasta bolognese. Each were $13.95 - which seems reasonable to me. My sandwich was $7.99 - pretty cheap. My husband & I didn't feel like cooking last night, so the risotto was quickly employed & it was really tasty! Perfectly cooked. The fresh bread was nearly gone, so I didn't get to grab something for dinner but was super satisfied with my choice. The prices weren't high - they seemed perfectly on par with a corner market where convenience is a premium. My only bad experience was with the fantastically UN-friendly cashier who seemed to go out of her way to be unfriendly & boy was she good at it. Really sad that *that* is what greets you when u go in. I'll definitely be back and am hoping that maybe she was just having a bad day.
