This food tour was the BEST! We went for a corporate team activity, and it was the best decision we could have made. Our tour guide, Joshua, was so kind, knowledgeable, professional, and had so many awesome stories to tell about the city, it's good, and his own life! The places we stopped at were truly so good - we got food and drinks at each of the stops and they all offered a different, unique type of cuisine. What I loved about the tour was that we stopped at local restaurants I would have never thought to try on my own, but would now go back to 100%! If you're in SF and want a way to explore the city (specifically the mission), bond with your team or friends, and eat like a local, Edible Excursions is the way to go!

I found Edible Excursions' virtual cocktail making class toward the end of 2020 and have been attending ever since. I've tried a lot of other online cocktail experiences but this one is by far the best and my favorite- the drinks are delicious and Dolly (the bartender) is very engaging and a really great teacher but what sets this one apart is that you get to be actively involved! Lisa (founder of EE) encourages participants to keep their audio on, ask questions, and give feedback throughout the class which truly makes this more of a social event- very similar to one of their (pre-covid) walking food tours. Dolly sources the best of the best alcohol- often local- and creates unique and delicious mixers to pair with her original cocktail recipes, more than a few we have continued to re-create. In recent months, they began offering a food pairing along with the virtual class which truly makes this a fabulous indoor date night! Even though we are vaccinated and the world is opening up again, I will continue to do these classes as they are oh so tasty, super fun, and always a highlight of my weekend.

Had the most enjoyable time with Travis on the Mission 24th tour. Travis is very knowledgeable of the history behind the city and the tour is well-paced. We had a big group of 9 and started a little late - total time was a little over 3 hours. Booking was very easy over the phone. What the tour included: Coffee from Philz Mini cupcake at Mission Minis Celery soda and pastrami sandwich at Wise Sons Walk through Balmy Street Murals Huarache and chips/salsa at La Palma Pork and cheese pupusa and jamaica juice at D'Maize Horchata (or aqua fresca) and al pastor taco at El Farlito Scoop of ice cream from Humphry Slocombe Everything we tasted was delicious! My favorite was the huarache from La Palma. Overall an amazing experience and worth the price! Definitely come hungry! I will be back for another tour soon

This time, my fiancé and I went on the SF Japantown food tour. Our guide, Alice Kawahatsu, was absolutely amazing!!!!! Not only was all the food delicious, she was able to give us historical/cultural context which we thoroughly enjoyed. We originally wondered how a Japantown food tour would take three hours but the time honestly flew by and we actually ran over the scheduled time. My fiancé kept raving about how awesome Japantown was and how we needed to come back more often so I guess SF Japantown (with Alice's awesome guide skills) won him over! We really enjoyed our conversations with Alice and we hope to go on a tour with Edible Excursions again. Definitely recommend :) thanks again Alice!

Great food and tour guide at Mission 24th.Travis was a great guide touting the Mission district.I ate the best pastrami ever at Wise Sons!

My husband loved it, I set up the tour for our valentines day date in the city. Went around North Beach, got some amazing snacks and treats along the way and learned all the great places to eat in North Beach. Then I went on the Mission food safari a few months later with a cousin. The difference between the North Beach and the Mission food safari is night and day. Chef Joseph did a great job on both but the Mission tour is more like an intro of the history, people, and the neighborhood with by the way this place has great tacos. So while your on the North beach tour, you will be snacking the whole time, picking up little things here and there at all the great places he recommends. On the Mission, you will come out with a great history, architecture, and art lesson and a little hungry. One thing to be aware of is that the Mission is a rough neighborhood. Its a mix of city workers, homeless, and some residents, with police strolling by to keep unlicensed peddlers on the move. My well traveled cousin described the Mission as a mini Tijuana lol.

Our tour began at Cowgirl Creamery where we had an excellent assortment of pastries from local bakeries and local cheeses. We learned quite a bit about different types of cheese and how they're made. We visited Hog Island Oyster company and enjoyed fresh and barbecued oysters while learning about how oysters reproduce and are harvested. We then stopped off at The Marshall Store for lunch. The food was outstanding and abundant and the scenery looking out on Tomales Bay was breathtaking. We then visited the Heidrun Meadery (another stop with a breathtaking view and setting) and learned about bee keeping and how meade is produced from honey. And we enjoyed sampling a nice variety of meade wines. Our last stop was Little Wing Farm where we learned about organic, sustainable farming and saw a nice variety of vegetables and beautiful flowers. One of the highlights was visiting the expansive quail pen, watching the quails freely roam around and seeing how they spray a dye on their eggs to help camouflage them. This tour was a treat for our eyes and stomaches and filled our heads with fascinating information. It was a day so well spent and truly memorable for our family.

Before you get too holidazed, may I suggest the following: Research shows that people's most cherished memories are not of things and objects, but of experiences. Thus, gifting an experience vs. an object will bring more joy to your loved ones. And as gift-worthy experiences go, I can think of few better stocking stuffers for your local lovies than a spot on a Savor Oakland Food Tour. I've been lucky to tour with Savor twice now. First thanks to Yelp, I was blessed to get in for one of the Jack London Square area. Carlo, Savor creator and main guide, is both knowledgeable and genuinely warm as a guide. His love for Oakland is also apparent, which puts real heart into the tour. The destinations may rotate, but ours included Chop Bar, Urban Winery, Home of Chicken & Waffles, Forge, Bocanova, Miette and a nosh in transit. Between the food/drink stops, Carlo will call out some of the history and architecture of the area, which ushered more than a couple "I did not know that!" inner responses. My second tour, of Oakland Chinatown (half-priced thanks to Yelp), was a wonder. At tour's beginning, I questioned how much Carlo could show me that I didn't try already, but by tour's end I was happily humbled. I won't divulge all the locations, but some of the stops included: - noodles from Classic Guilin, whose cuisine is from a region in China off the beaten occidental track; - Vietnamese noshes and a Jamison Hot Toddy from the super-cool folks at Tay Ho (one of 74 reviews I'm overdue on); - A magical place where fortune cookies come into existence; - vegetarian Chinese pork fried rice that makes you think "I Can't Believe It's Not Pork"; and.. - just when you think you can't eat another bite (think of Monty Python's "Meaning of Life" character who's offered a "wafer theeen mint?"), another tasting ending with amazing fried banana dessert. Seriously... we were stuffed. Rounding out the awesome food and historic sights: the tours are small enough that by their end you develop a real bond with your fellow travelers. That connection between people, from different walks of life, guided by Carlo -- is for me a prime example of what makes Oakland such a great place to call home. A very easy five stars for Savor Oakland. A thoughtful and unexpected great holiday gift (even for yourself) for this holiday season. Give local, and live local, all.

For anyone not hardcore Chinese, like myself, this tour is a necessity for braving the Andrew Zimmern-like delights of Oakland Chinatown. I mean, let's face it. Many of us are are going to have at least some amount of trepidation about diving right into the restaurants & markets of Oakland Chinatown. But with Carlo's trusty & knowledgable guidance, we were all able to relax & really enjoy the wonders that this non-touristy Chinatown has to offer. & it wasn't all about food. Though there was more than enough downright delicious food at each our 4 restaurant stops to stuff all of us, even with plenty of walking during the tour. The Oakland Chinatown tour also had a healthy helping of history mixed in that deepened the understanding & appreciation of this neighborhood. Savor Oakland Food Tours' tour of Oakland Chinatown was truly a mouth-watering & eye-opening experience. Knowing what a great tour this is, I know I'll have to check out their Jack London Square tour sometime.

After waiting for two hours we decided that enough was enough and left. I don't know what exactly happened to Brian, and to give him the benefit of the doubt, for a while we thought, maybe he had some sort of emergency. And to be honest we would have been less irritated if he told us earlier on that he could not make the tour and needed to cancel, because shit happens in life. What we really didn't appreciate was the fact that he strung us along for two hours. Tour was suppose to start at 11:00. At 11:15 we were told, another 10 minutes. So we waited. Then we were asked to move to the next venue. So we waited for another 30 mins. Another call from Brian to the venue and asking us to wait another 10 mins. This kept going on until we waited for almost 2 hours. Throughout this whole time the main operator was apologetic and to be fair, offered us a refund and vouchers. They were also trying to get a hold of Brian, but couldn't. The problem was that Brian was clearly avoiding phone calls from his employer, because if he really had no signal he wouldn't have been able to call the venue and keep telling us to wait another ten minutes! I am all up for giving people a second chance. Maybe Brian has his reasons. Maybe his alarm didn't work and he forgot to wake up on time. But he needs a quick reality check in basic client management - don't over promise, and don't avoid confrontation because one cannot face delivering bad news. Because things surely will deteriorate quickly once people realise they are being lied to.
