I had already been working with a student whose family specifically requested that I continue as their child's Paraeducator. I interviewed directly with the district and was verbally told that I had gotten the position. I was even encouraged during the process to apply for a Paraeducator II position because of my medical background and experience. Based on those conversations, I was under the impression that I would be continuing with the student for the upcoming school year. However, the entire summer passed without any follow-up regarding next steps, onboarding, or the status of the position. I sent emails trying to get clarification and received no response. What is most frustrating is not simply whether or not I ultimately received the position--it is the way the situation was handled. When you verbally tell someone they have a job, know that a family has specifically requested that person to continue supporting their child, and then fail to communicate afterward, you are setting expectations that affect both the employee and the family. If circumstances changed or the district decided to move in another direction, a simple email explaining that would have been the professional and respectful thing to do. Leaving someone without an answer after telling them they had the job is incredibly disappointing. For a school district that should value communication, professionalism, and consistency--especially when working with students and families--I expected much better.

So, she has an exceptional understanding of the ins and outs of educational services and therapies that may be best for your child. She also has a unique ability to connect with parents and ease their anxieties about the daunting journey of understanding the IEP process. She holds your hand through the process and has an uncanny ability to hold space for your worries, while gently assuring you of the right strategy/steps forward on how to proceed with your child's school. Her rates are beyond reasonable for the degree of professionalism, insight, and experience she has regarding how best to navigate schools. Not only is she a seasoned and passionate educator-she is a parent of 3 beautiful children who each have an IEP. So, she understands the special needs parenting journey from the inside out. Immediately after our consultation, she wrote me an organized, clear email of our next steps with helpful tips on how to communicate with the school for an important meeting the next day. I spoke to many advocates and Angie strikes the right chord of seeking collaboration and knowing which battles to fight, when, and how to bring people to the table in what is sometimes a contentious dynamic in an IEP team. The IEP can feel so intimidating and overwhelming. You want what's best for your child, and you may feel at a loss on where to start. Or, like us-you may have reached a crossroads and need some expertise to help guide you through the landmines of the IEP process or to your input at the IEP table with someone more agile with this type of complex, loaded communication. I can't thank Angie enough for being so flexible, accommodating, and responsive. She's organized, strategic, insightful, and experienced. Call her!
