The Metamora Courthouse Historic Site was a fun little stop during one of my times exploring the little town of... well... Metamora. My girlfriend at the time was from around this area, so I thought we should explore most of what the town and surrounding area has to offer. If you are a fan of historical things, Metamora itself has a ton of it's lineage still around and open for visits. This courthouse is no exception. I was pleasantly surprised that we got a bit of a tour/guide at the Courthouse. We got to look at stuff going our own pace but the people there were helpful in explaining the history of the things we were looking at. They also took us from room to room and explained what each one was used for. After spending maybe 30 minutes of browsing and getting some history lessons, we decided we had enough of the little courthouse and the history of Metamora, and to some extent, Illinois. The folks there were lovely and took the time to explain a lot of stuff to us. They are never overbearing or overloading on the information. It was the perfect informal tour. Metamora itself is a great place to bring kids for a field trip from school. Between all these historical places to see and the beautiful Black Partridge Park and Partridge Point Orchard, you couldn't ask for a more fun small Midwest town to explore.

Not a fan of what the city did to my previously favorite branch, Lakeview! The only return drop is…read morenow the same old ones OUTSIDE so you can stand in the rain or cold while dropping your books one at a time into the miniscule drop slot. They got rid of the human librarians and replaced them with self-scanners that no one can use (which is why grocery stores are removing them but COP is just now thinking they are new technology). The wait to use one of these scanners is longer than the humans because the patrons can't work them and get a 15 walk-through/training session instead!!! All of the books are now crammed together along the right side of the main room so that the left side can just be hideously painted cinder blocks. PLAIN CONCRETE, no posters, no art, no photographs! It looks like they shoved everything over to paint that wall but forgot to move some books back over. The New Releases and Holds bookcase is set so close to the wall now that two people can't pass by each other while browsing. There is a huge box in the center of the room which must be an information desk although there is no sign indicating this. There are librarians sitting in there although I haven't seen anyone requesting help. What was wrong with having them up front to help check out and letting people ask for help there? Honestly, thank God I have a Kindle.

They show me the book and we did not ruin the book. They still told me we owed the money. I told them we can only pay a 1.00 a week till it's paid off and they refused payment and said they needed the full amount. With no response back about the book, no proof we damage the book, and refusing the payment I'm trying to make to pay this off that's not our fault. I'm considering this debt settled. We are moving out of State in 2 weeks and have no reason to be using this library in the future. So the fine on our account will be mean nothing. We don't care.

Fact: It's basically like any other library in the 'burbs. Nicely labeled sections, friendly librarians, and good lighting. Yep, standard library. However, one cool aspect is that there were carts of free books in the middle of the building! That was just lovely. Anyway, just keep on keeping on MPLD!

They rent out a bunch of things such as educational games and tools for kids, binoculars, puzzles, and so much more. There are some tables dedicated to coloring or being part of finishing a puzzle.
