Nested at the top of a rather sinister looking stairwell near Dalston overground, Efes pool hall is a great place to, well, play pool. There's no crowding around the pub table waving an optimistic pound coin at the pool hogs here, At Efes, there are enough tables for everyone, a bar with a reasonable selection of beers and spirits, plus a huge TV playing music videos and a few game machines too. If you like pool it's quite possible to lose a whole morning, afternoon or evening in this place and because it's relatively hidden on the second floor, a bit dark and dingy and supposed to be some sort of members club it's quite fun to hide out there and pretend to be a gangster, if you like that sort of thing. the official closing time is 12am but if you ask very nicely, they may let you stay a little longer. read more

Great spot. I had this bookmarked because I was researching dive bars, and when I was in Dalston over the weekend, got a chance to check it out. Entry: This is my only grievance with the place. We got in fine (no cover or anything), but there was a group of 4 guys ahead of us denied entry. Apparently they have a policy not to allow groups of four or more males. One of the four was understandably in disbelief, and the bouncer actually pointed to a sign on the door where they had this written down. Clearly it's a policy to give the bouncers flexibility to prevent access to groups that seem like they might cause trouble but: a) the place is super divey so it's a bit ridiculous that they have strict entry policies b) the group in question seemed quite well-behaved c) it's blatant sexual discrimination d) it's theoretically a pool hall ffs, without gender stereotyping myself, I feel confident in suggesting that generally speaking, more males play pool on a regular basis than females. Basically, weird entry policies and the bouncers are dicks. Location: Lots of fun! So so trashy in the best way possible. Huge projector which had MTV on mute the whole night. Music selection was mostly poppy/rnb. Clearly felt like the manager's playlist without much more thought beyond that. This was reinforced by a bit when there was a few minutes without music. Cash only bar, but well-stocked, and decently priced. (No PBRs sadly but you can't have everything) Music was at a good volume, notable but you could comfortably have a conversation. Some people were dancing at the area at the front (by the screen). Some playing pool. Lots more just hanging out chilling (there's also a seating area at the back. Just a really fun vibe. Notes: When we entered around 0030 I thought the crowd was at quite a good level. Fairly full but loads of space to walk about. Amazingly, it stayed constant pretty much the whole time we were there (till 3). Came here for the Plonk Mini Golf this afternoon. Stepped in and it felt like 90s downtown Las Vegas, in the best way, with pillars and cloudy skies painted on the wall and video poker games lining the room. The golf course was brilliant and absurd at the same time. Volcanoes and spinning blades, flowerpots that fell over, a pool table round that required you to use the butt of the club like a cue. TOTALLY worth the 7.50 pounds, especially since we were the only ones playing in the afternoon so we took a few extra shots at some of the more challenging ones. Pints are 4 pounds, and cocktails available. Not the most amazing selection of drinks or things on top, so downgrading one star, but service was friendly and I definitely want to return in the evening when the bar's divey character really comes out. read more

I finally managed to pay this place a visit after living just down the road from it for 6 months. It was well worth the wait. Free to get in, extended opening hours and very reasonably priced drinks. I'm not 100% but based on my experience everything seems to be £3! Pool tables are available for £1 a game and there's a few to choose from as well as a couple of snooker tables at the back. Music is very much hit and miss and stays very much along the lines of pop and R&B. I was led here by Plonk, the mini golf that is currently popping up on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It's pretty out of the way for me so I was hoping it would be worth it - unfortunately I don't think it really was. The club itself is charmless and divey. It was brightly lit up when we got there at about 7, which made it feel even weirder - it's the kind of place that should be dimly lit. The lights also made the flies really visible. I get it, it's summer, I'll forgive a few insects, but there were whole clouds of them hovering round, which was quite unsettling. We had fun with the golf, though I think this was more because of the people I was with than the course itself. While I was amused at how budget it was (Sainsbury's bags making up the volcano lava), in some places the failure of the duct tape to hold things together meant routes didn't work properly. read more

My bf showed me this club and I understood straight away why he loved it. It was amazing! There was lots of great pool tables, lots of snooker tables which weren't overpriced (I dare you to find another one like that. There are around 4 places in London that do snooker and in 3 you have to have a pricey membership), cheap booze and late openings. The perfect non pretentious place to go to after some drinks in the area. Unfortunately, recently they have installed mini golf and got rid of snooker. Alright, the club seems to prosper from it but I am sorry, I cannot get excited just by the fact that the mini golf statues glow in dark. As many places in Dalston, EFES is answering to the cool but empty vibe for people who are paying for having an interesting evening story to tell. What a shame. Efes is normally a good place to go for a few games of pool or snooker but now every Wednesday and Thursday there is a pop up crazy golf course which is really good fun. 9 holes - don't get held up behind a big group and try get a birdie :) read more

This place is hilarious. It's great, but hilarious. What makes the place so good is it's authenticity- it genuinely is an old snooker club which due to it's late license, has now attracted a million young trendy kids to come drink red stripe and jive about in. The carpets are old, the pool tables are old, the chairs are of the church hall variety and the sound system is non-existant. They play music channels out of tv's hanging from the ceiling, hence the intermittent porn adverts. It's a good atmosphere with cheap drinks where you can play pool, plus it has a late licnese and is right in the middle of Dalston. What's not to like? read more

Decent spot to drink cheap beers as well as play some pool. Lots of tables of different sizes. Not sure about the quality, since I was just drinking. Buzz yourself up, buy an Efes beer and play a couple of rounds, or just stand around watching other people. One small thing is one of the beers I bought was chipped, when I let the bar staff know they happyly poured it into a glass for me But also politely got me a new beer when I said I didn't want to swallow any glass. read more

Door man (sat night) made it a hassle for me & 2 friends to get in. Ruined the good mood & vibe we were in. Made us go online there & then to buy our tickets (for the mini golf) rather than let us in to do so. Wouldn't even let us in just for a drink or to play a game of pool. After we eventually got in, place wasnt even that busy & was ok, nothing special. Won't be returning. read more
