As far as I know, you can only get in here with a membership or as a guest with a member, since it's a 'private club.' It's expensive ish, it's kind of exclusive ish, it's pretentious ish but wow is the best thing I've done since coming to London! I'd been in the city from up north for around three years and grew bored of having to wait to be pushed around in the various bars of central london. I became bored of having nowhere to take people in central London and just sit to catch up. Then after lots of looking I found the Rushmore group; a rapidly expanding chain of members clubs with an eclectic jazzy feel, full of staff who loved their whisky, their cocktails and most importantly their customers. Anyone can book a table in the public area but it's the members that get the delights of the Red Room, that get to book late, that get invited to free tastings, that have credit randomly put in their tab and get to eat for free with a couple friends when one of the restaurants opens or changes their menu. Most importantly whether you're a member or not they come to you and treat you like a HUMAN! You feel good in this place, a world away from the trepidations and stress of real life soothed by jazz and alcohol. When I joined they had 3 bars in london, a bar in new york and a chalet in charmonix. I was also dating a girl in New York so the 5 year transferable membership made sense. Since then I'd lost the girl even after impressing her with the bar but kept the membership which probably says more about me than the bar! The chain now has 4 bars in London and 2 restaurants, frankly I prefer to go to these than most other places! Overall wonderful place, wonderful people wonderful drinks. The staff will make the drinks to your taste and if its not too busy, the management are looking away and if youre nice they'll let you taste one or several of the really rare stuff that, if bought, would eternal servitude! Milk and Honey is sublime. One of the best bars in London, from the moment you walk in through the innocuous door to the second you leave, the service and atmosphere is perfect! Cocktails are £9 or so, and the food on offer is from a small menu but each item is generally of great quality and good value. The cocktails themselves are some of the best I've had in London, easily matching those at hotels or more trendy cocktail clubs in Soho or Shoreditch. I was lucky enough to attend with a member and headed straight in without reservation to the Red Room, which had an old school vibe with waiter on hand to take literally any order we had. Membership is reduced for under 30s, and is something I am now genuinely considering after my experience here. Firstly I'm a member here, I drink here a lot. Members get full access to all bars and after 11pm, non-members need a reservation and generally cannot come in after 11pm. Milk and Honey spoil you for any other bar, their service is top notch. Their handle on drinks is extraordinary. They look after their members, they are more like family. I have my favourite cocktails there, they even will get you your special drink, mine is Japanese Single Malt and they have been supplying my craving for months with new choices as I finish the last. Their menu is more a idea guide, they can make anything, they make their drinks perfectly balanced and will endeavour the get the drink how you like it. If your unsure just tell them what you like flavour wise and let them decide and they pretty much never disappoint. read more

I've been a few times with friends here before and took the plunge last year and purchased membership when it opened up. It might seem a little pricey but having somewhere guaranteed that's open 7 days a week with good drinks is worth it for me. Finding this place is hard if you've never been before, it's a black door on a slightly raised step on Poland Street. When you go in there is a small reception area for taking coats, luggage and checking membership details. The night I went it was the lovely Zoe who phoned around to see where a booth was available. We went downstairs to a booth that could sit about 5, though it was only me and a colleague. The decor is hard to see because its so dark, only candles light the downstairs area. Once your eyes adjust you can make out the brick walls and lush seats. It's a nice place but isn't pretentious and trying too hard. Music is light jazz, the volume is just the right level that you can talk to people next to you without straining your voice. Overall noise is pretty quiet, you can hear people in the booth next to you if you strain, and its usually quite amusing :) The server here is also the person making your drinks, for that night we had an Australian called Logan. We started off with some straight drinks from the menu, before starting to ask Logan for recommendations. Explain your tastes and choice of liquor and he'll make something awesome. Expect to pay £8-9 per cocktail, the pours are heavy here so just forget about the price and enjoy the experience. The kitchen here is exceptional too, we had some tempura prawns, the batter was nice and light just perfect as a wee snack. Also had some chips (fries) to go along with that. Okay here's the skinny on this place I had booked marked this bar for its ratings back when I was in New York and finding this place was hell because you won't be able to find it I suddenly found myself standing where my iPhone told me where it was located but I still couldn't find it because there is no sign I saw a man and a woman exit a big metal door As it was closing I pulled it and basically snuck in there was a girl sitting at a little tiny booth who asked if I had a reservation I was very curious to know what the hell was going on in this hidden little lounge bar Well it turns out nothing is really exciting about this place it's very dark and candlelit but there is a mixologists bartender who makes incredible drinks the menu is L standing I had Claire as my server and she was wonderful she made it very nice She recommended other places for me to go and then I started to talk to another gentleman who was from Paris and I told him I was going there tomorrow he wrote down where I should go I really liked this place but I'm just letting you know it's hard to find but the drinks inside a really really good and it's a lot like the other place Desparado or something like that that I just reviewed about a minute ago They play 1960s music inside I don't know it's really weird I've been to also to borrow is all over London and I just can't find a happy medium If you are looking for a good cocktail this is the place it is not one of those cheesy little English pubs on every corner read more

Home to some of the best damn bartenders in London in my humble opinion! Yes it might sound kind of pretentious to go to a private member's club, but when a generous member friend offers to take you for a drink, are you really going to say no?! Whatever your expectations it's not the slightest bit snooty inside, more just plush and cosy. The relaxed Red Room is my favourite which has comfy sofas and background jazz that's actually in the background, so great for a good natter with friends. The downstairs bar is cool too but open to non-members til 10pm and much louder. There's a fun private hire games room at the top too where said member friend had his birthday drinks a few years back. The bartenders are the stars here and both of the last times I've been, I've described the sorts of flavours I like and they've come up with something amazing off menu. Yesterday I was in the mood for a scotch-based something not too sweet or fruity, and he suggested 'The Joker' which was like a lemony Old Fashioned with absinthe that gave it an aniseedy aftertaste. Sublime! It wasn't busy on a Tuesday so we got an area for 6 quite easily; I've seen it much busier on other visits though. Cocktails run around the £9 mark and there's a compact food menu. Have fun finding the right toilet too - they're labelled 'Milk' or 'Honey' - you decide! read more

The thing that hits you about Milk and Honey is the ambiance. Quiet, dark and candle lit, it's a great place to privately sit down with a date or to congregate with a small group of friends. Not to mention that the blank facade of the building which add to it's mystery and allure. Sadly however the drinks just dont match the promise of the decor, they're ok, but not special. I even ordered a Daquiri and it come out too watery, a real disappointment considering I'd heard this place was for discerning drinkers. I'm sure that in 2002 (when they opened) these would have been considered great drinks, but in 2017 they need to up their game to stay relevant. If the atmosphere wasn't as good as it is this would be a 3 star review. The service is ok, laid back, you don't feel like you're being hassled but you also don't feel like you're being looked after. All in all, a nice place to come to hang out in but if you're looking for great drinks look elsewhere. read more

It was were I was taken for drinks years and years ago when I first came to live in London and the whole city was a magical world. This was the door to Narnia. Inside the fawns were serving up strong cocktails as I sat on red velvet softness. Now it's a place I associate with 'wannabes'. We came to this members-only hotspot on Valentine's Day after getting a two-hour booking for a table as non-members...woohoo! I love the idea of speakeasy themed bars aiming at pleasing drinkers who wish they were drinking on the sly during the Prohibition, so for me, this is my sort of place to drink. We found Milk & Honey after a very brief struggle and buzzed ourselves in. Our coats and belongings were taken from us (thank goodness) and kept safely in their coat room while we were escorted downstairs to our table. The room we were in (can't remember the name, down a set of stairs) was extremely dimly lit, almost to the point of struggling to read your menu, but no worries! The bartender was happy to go through options and even make something off the menu to suit your mood. We spent the night in our cozy booth listening to the music, talking to other partrons of the bar, nibbling on snacks (I wish we didn't, the arancini balls were way too salty for my taste) and drinking.drinking.drinking! Needless to say, we woke up the next morning with killer hangovers but the desire to come back and check out other bars owned by the same group. Great experience, friendly service, private, very romantic and something different for the discerning drinker. Amazing selection with ingredients you may not have heard of. This is a far cry from a watered down vodka and soda joint, that's for sure. read more

Where does one even start about Milk and Honey? This member's only cocktail bar is exclusive to say the least. Once you are able to locate the unmarked door in Soho, getting in depends on how lucky you are that day. An establishment so exclusive, that even as a paid member, you may be denied entry. I have been there a few times now with a friend who is a member - and we've had a 63% success rate of getting in. Once in though, the bar is split over multiple levels. My favorite is the Red Room which has lots of comfy couches and soft lighting - ideal for both dates and smaller groups of friends. The ground level also works, but the lighting is a bit dark for my taste. The best (and my most favorite part) of Milk and Honey, are the cocktails. There's a wide selection, and it's entirely possible to make a special request should you want your own concoction, or ask for the bar to make you a cocktail based on your preferences; if you don't find anything on the menu. The majority of the cocktails are priced at £9 (not £8.50 as it says on the online menu), and there are also wines and spirits to choose from. Should you like gin cocktails, I would recommend The Business or the Florodora. There is also a canape and sharing menu for food - I've never tried it though. There is a service charge - and members get a 10% discount. Service is good for the most part, but can be a miss. Most of the time you'll have a friendly, attentive server, but you may be stuck with a server who seems less than enthusiastic to have you there, to put it mildly. A little bit pretentious - but perhaps an expected part of the package when you're trying to frequent a member's only, exclusive club that Milk and Honey is. Despite the hurdles, it is definitely one of the better bars if you like your cocktails and want to spend a relaxed evening with friends. To maximize your chances of spending an evening there sipping on the fun cocktails, I would: 1. Get a membership/ Become friends with someone with a membership (yay for my friend!); 2. The place is small...the section where non-members congregate anyway but it's more than ample to accomodate and is dimly lit so as not to blind you out of your drink enduced haze. My brother and I were fortunate enough to strike up a conversation with the owner of Milk & Honey while at a bar (that has since closed). We had heard of the NY version of M&H and knew how exclusive it could be. The owner made a phone call and gave us directions. A cab ride later and we were in Soho dropped off at an unmarked door. We knocked three times - pause - knock three more times. Wave your magic wand and say "alohamora" and the door will slowly creak open. This is really how it happens. When our identities were confirmed via another phone call, we were led in an sat at a table upstairs. Dark and well-decorated in speakeasy fashion makes this place memorable. Cocktails were expensive but you will not find this kind of love put into them unless made at home with fresh ingredients. There was a private party downstairs with all well-dressed young folks who were clearly very "yah" types. I don't doubt given the prices and exclusiveness that they were frequent members. Been to Milk & Honey twice now with two seperate groups of friends that really wanted to check it out. Have never been much of a fan of "cocktails", always preferred scotch neat, a gin martini (skip the vermouth and garnishes), or simply a pint of ale. Well, I must say I was both delighted and surprised by a drink named Penicillin. She's a subtley complex and well balanced drink. Displays the smokiness of the peated scotch, the tang of the lemon, the sweetness of the honey and the bite of the ginger without any of these aspects being overbearing. I have to say that I can see myself revisiting Milk & Honey of my own volition, though really only to revisit Penicillin. read more

This place probably has the best martinis in London. It also makes you feel super swank-- unmarked black door, very exclusive, but at the same time not pretentious at all, once you're in the door. It's too bad it's a member's club-- and a pretty spendy one at that-- I'm not sure that they need all the pretence. There's a rules list, and one of them is "no star-fucking", which no amount of social media could make me sure what, exactly, it was. I figured that if I kept my bit in my trousers I'd be A-OK. If you're not a member here, you can only book a reservation prior to 11pm so give yourself ample time. Once the clock strikes 11pm, they kick you out. Given that, the cocktail here were pretty solid. Can't say that they are the best speakeasy cocktails I've ever had, but they were solid. If you're having several drinks here, your bill can start racking up quite quickly (for non Londoners), especially because of the £ conversion..so keep that in mind. Surprisingly, they also offer a food menu here. I ordered the chicken sandwich and fries and they were nothing to write home about...in fact they kind of sucked. The fried chicken sandwich was pretty much all breading and fat, which made for a very greasy sandwich. Also the fries were pretty soggy. Take my advice and don't order food. Considering this is a member's only bar, and that having to reserve if you're not a member keeps the bar relatively relaxed and exclusive, it's great value for the service and quality of the food and drinks. I came here on recommendation from staff at Milk & Honey's sister bar The Player (also private member's and very good) so I was expecting a certain standard and that's exactly what we got. Excellent table service, world class cocktails but most a a very fair price (£7.50). The decor is very opulent, almost boudoir like, yet very, very low and intimate lighting. As you'd expect from a private member's club, the bar is fully stocked with an extensive list of spirits, digestifs and whiskeys including some Japanese varieties. The food I haven't tried but is also supposed to be top notch. A word of advice: make sure you know the address, the club is unmarked from the street. read more

If I had written this a few months ago the first couple times we came as members, this would probably be a 5-star review. The members-only area is divine, like a step back into the 20's when the best drinks in America could be had in someone's library or parlour. They have fantastic deco mirrors and a beautiful liquor cabinet that looks like it could have come straight out of my grandparents' attic. The banquettes on the ground floor are deep and dark allowing for a certain amount of privacy for each table. The drinks are so good (and stronger than average), and no request is too big. They'll make you a mojito without being elitist about it, but their bread and butter is in the more classic cocktails, like their damn fine Tanq 10 dirty martini. My issue as of late is with the booking service. The last two times we've tried to get in, they haven't been able to accommodate us. The first time was at 8pm on a Saturday, couldn't get in til 11:00. Tonight we wanted 7:30, but they didn't have anything til 8. I know it's only a half-hour difference, but it's seemingly par for the course. I'm hoping things will be better in the new year... we shall see! read more

At last! A members only club (although flexible on that front since neither I nor any of my friends were members!) with a great, chilled-out, non-poncy atmosphere. My favourite thing about Milk and Honey is that the bar staff were proper mixologists and when I deviated from the cocktail list - out of sheer laziness to read through the drinks tbh - and started listing my preferences, the barman came up with not one but two insanely good cocktails. So much so, that my two friends ordered another two for themselves! Prices are what you'd expect for central London - average cocktail was £10-11 - but I don't really have anything bad to say about this speakeasy, it ticked my boxes and I left feeling merry in every sense of the word! It is huge, multi-level from basement lounge to roofdeck!! As other reviewers note be sure to make a "booking" for a table beforehand. Only members can get tables after 10PM I believe. Luckily my friend who lives in London for work is a member and we were seated on the second floor in the "red room". Walk up to a black warehouse door, only to be buzzed in to enter this top secret spot. This place is a member's only lounge, and has several different rooms making up Milk & Honey. I couldn't remember all the room names, but there were about 5 (possibly more) sections. As we entered one of the dimly-lit rooms, I squeezed into a booth and checked out their menu. Their drinks consisted of creative concoctions.. so many options, that my indecisive heart could not pick! I let the waiter know that I like gin, and I don't like anything too sweet. He recommended a drink for me, and I was pleasantly surprised on the flavor; delicious! Although I am not a huge drinker when it comes to the alcohol front, for 10BPS I would have appreciated a bit more alcohol as it tasted like juice. I first went here for some drinks with business associates, and it was a great venue. Everyone but me ordered beers for the first round, and I ordered my favorite cocktail, the Hemingway Daquiri. Not the easiest thing to order, their bartender whipped it up like old hat, and by round four, everyone was drinking Hemingways. Bit of an institution this, both in London and New York. It's probably the only 'secret' prohibition bar undiscovered tribes in the Amazon have heard of. Being popular, doesn't mean that it's crap though: Milk & Honey still serves some of the best drinks in London, they take the art of boozing very seriously indeed. The speakeasy vibe sees you through the heavy curtain and into a dark, New Yorky sorta room with muffled jazz coming from somewhere. Thankfully they don't labour the point too much and nobody's dressed as bugsy Malone. From 'Fresh & Up' to 'Fizzes & Swizzles' and 'Punches, Cups & Cobblers' there's a blindness inducing variety of interesting cocktails. BarChick demands a 'London Calling' on arrival: Gin, sherry, lemon, sugar, bitters. And a fight. But is it a wanky members bar? Well, sorta. We're not members and blag it in all the time, so you probably can too. Give them a tinkle on the number above and you'll be fine. Then you have to knock on an unmarked door to get in only to deal with the most unfriendly woman at the front desk - a little levity would be nice. Once inside, I found it pretty dark. Popped in on a Thursday night w/o a reservation. Apparently Members get access to several other floors that us common folk will never see, however the cost of membership is pretty high. We were able to get standing room in the ground level bar. We were dressed very casually & were happy they weren't harsh about any kind of dress code. one of the bartenders themselves came right over to us for an order & provided great counsil. I actually went against his recommendation to try the London Calling which turned out to be sweeter & lighter than what I was looking for, so for the next drink I tried his recommendation of the smoky scotch 'Penicillin" & loved it. My buddy had a beer he hadn't seen before & loved it so much he snapped a pic to find it again, 'Black Isle Goldeneye' I believe. I loved the atmosphere, good location, great bartenders & drinks. I heard about Milk & Honey from a friend when I visited London a couple of years ago. Always on the prowl for good drinking places, and this one sounded intriguing. Non-members have to make a reservation and can stay only until 11pm, while members are welcome anytime until 3am. A mate and I showed up at the appointed hour at the specified address, but there was no sign, only a big brown door, flush with the wall. Figuring this was the entrance we knocked, came in, the hostess checked our reservation and sat us at the bar promptly. The selection of alcohols is quite good, especially whiskeys and champagne, though their house cocktails are very tasty too. We stayed for a while, sampling and talking to other patrons, and the only complaint I had was that it was very, very dark. Otherwise, it's a great small and comfortable establishment. OK, I'll admit that I wasn't expecting to like this place. Not at all. But I'm a damn cocktail snob and I do. i don't often buy into the whole members thing, but there's something about it that intrigues me. I get it somewhere like the Hospital Club, where there's events and gigs and you can go there during the day, but aside from having lots of different options with the Milk & Honey brand (I think you can go to their bars in New York too), you're just paying a lot upfront to be able to drink expensive drinks for a year. There lies my problem. But those expensive drinks are excellent. And so is the service. By the really really sexy men wearing braces. I had some sort of gin and bubbly and bitters concoction to start with, like a very grown up French 75. And I really settled in here. It's dark, it's buzzy, it's moody. It's weirdly not up it's own arse. And the sazerac was absolutely heavenly. I could probably drink those all night. Well, if someone else was paying (and in this case they were). Excellent bar snakcks of fries and crostini too. I'm uppity about Private Members clubs because I can't afford them, and I'm jealous of them. So instead pretend that I don't really want to go, and wouldn't sign up even if I could. That is a massive massive lie. I'd sign up here in a shot. It's a members' bar, so much is made of the exclusivity. Our guide was a member and still seemed to have to talk his way in a bit. Like other Qypers says, it's hard enough just to find the place. When you're in, it's very, very relaxed. All decked out in brown leather with a kind of prohibition theme going on, the cocktail waiter is exceptionally attentive and explains how the drinks are made and they're created exactly how you you want them. Honestreviewer obviously doesn't appreciate that some poeple have a mind of their own and can like something even if he/she doesn't. When the bar tender at The Ivy tells you that Milk and Honey do some of the best cocktails in London you can begin to see why M+H was voted bar of the year in London. I am sorry you don't like the lack of light, but we are talking about a place that styles itself on a private members speak easy from the 20s/30s. All I can say is get with the program. Bitching aside the cocktails are excellent the food is ok, and most importantly it is a place where you can enjoy great company and be unencumbered by the usual vagaries of being in any London bar. read more
