Either way you choose to go the gorge is amazing. We started the trail in the morning and never met anyone until we entered the gorge, still only meeting 2 people while down in it. Highly recommend! And if you fancy a bit more of a hike we found that loop trail to be great beginning to end.

Yelp Review 2026 #145:…read more The train ride via Gonergrat Rail from Zermatt to Gonergrat takes about 35 minutes with 5-6 stops. It's 3089-3131 meters high offering the best view of Matterhorn. Each stop has its pros and cons. Our first stop was the viewing platform to see Matterhorn. I got to see a local bird (Alpine Chough) up close that's not afraid of people at all. This place has a hotel, 2 restaurants, a big gift shop, Golden Spot Photopoint, a chapel, and Zooom Interactive Exhibition. You can easily spend 1.5 hours or more here. I spent a lot of time in Zooom. It's an indoor space with lots of information about Matterhorn - from the flora and fauna, first one to climb to the peak, elevation comparison of the most famous mountains, constellations easily seen from Gornergrat. There's a cinema that shows Matterhorn in different weather conditions. There's a VR paragliding that allows you to feel like you're circling around the mountain. A periscope that shows you how rescuers/ mountaineers search and rescue climbers that get stuck in Matterhorn. I checked out different parts of Gornergrat. The chapel is small. The gift shop was crowded with long lines at the cashier so, I ended up not getting anything. The photopoint is just that. But Zooom was definitely my favorite part.

It took us only about 30-45 minutes to walk around the viewpoints outside. The days leading up to our visit, it showed partially sunny weather, but the morning of, the weather showed rain. However we'd already gotten the tickets, so we went but couldn't see any of the mountain peaks due to the clouds. It was cold, windy, and there was some hail, and nothing was open. Unfortunate, but I'm sure it would have been an amazing experience another time. The train ride was smooth, and the staff were gruff but helpful.

Such a great way to see Gimmelwald, Murren and the summit of the Schilthorn. When you arrive, you…read morehave the option to going to any or all of the stops. This was by far the easiest way of getting to Gimmelwald or Murren without hiking and it is the only way to the summit of the Schilthorn. The cable car takes about 6 minutes to get to Gimmelwald and about 12 to Murren. The summit is a 30 minute ride. You will need to stop at each stop and transfer to another cable car to go up higher. Buying tickets was easy and the associates speak multiple languages. We took the cable car to Murren and it was €22 round trip. We were also able to get off in Gimmelwald for a peek around the village. The staff are very friendly and each station has restrooms and are clean. The cars are a less than 20 minute drive from Interlaken on a beautiful mountain road. Try out this cable car and you won't be disappointed.

It's the one with the triangular-shaped Kaspar Meglinger "Dance of Death" paintings. I'm guessing that they've been restored over the years. They actually looked well-preserved considering they've been exposed to the elements under the trusses of the bridge since the mid-17th century. The skeletal death guy in all the paintings is kind of creepy. Oh, and there is a Grim Reaper too. Can you imagine walking over this bridge at night while looking at all those spider-webbed paintings? We decided to take this route on the way to visiting the towers along the Musegg Wall that once fortified the city. It also happens to be the site of the hydroelectric plant and the beaver ramp. I'm not sure if beavers actually use it, but it's there in case they need to pass over the rough downstream water to get to Lake Lucerne. It's all explained with descriptive informational markers. That whole area is kind of cool. It was interesting to see even though half the bridge was under construction at the time we were there (Sept 2025). You can still see the paintings above the scaffolding. It's definitely worthy of a cross over at some point during your stay in Lucerne.

Yelp Review 2026 #122:…read more A fun thing to do and an amazing place to visit. I got with a discount for being a Swiss Travel Pass holder. The bus stop is right in front of this place so it's super easy to get to. I got here a few minutes after they opened. So, there were quite a few people without being crowded. Except some of the people who were there were obnoxiously loud and it echoes through the cave. There are signs posted to be quiet but some people choose to ignore signs. There are parts that are a bit slick, some parts you have to bend a little bit as the ceiling is low, there are steps and stairs, it's chilly since it's a cave. Si, be sure to bring a jacket and wear the right shoes. Be mindful of those with mobility issues, they might have to wait for you at the restaurant (it's still a steep trek though) while you tour the cave. A lot of people would take breaks on the way to the entrance. Bring water. Each part of the cave is numbered so just follow the numbers - however the arrows can be confusing. I got to number 18 and didn't know where to go I ended going back to where I came from so I walked back to 18, walked the opposite direction and made it to 19-22 before exiting. "According to a legend, St. Beatus lived here in the 2nd century, who was believed to be one of the Irish messengers of the faith. After his arrival, Beatus is said to have driven away the dragon dwelling in the cave and then settled there to preach the teachings of Christianity and heal the sick." You'll see St. Beatus' cell, stalactites, stalagmites, and grottoes. You can have a nice view of Lake Thun from here.

WOOOOW! Absolutely incredible experience. The caves themselves are stunning. They were full of…read morebeautiful grottos, unique rock formations, and breathtaking scenery throughout. The views from the top and outside are truly magical, overlooking a massive lake that makes the entire visit feel surreal. QUICK heads-up... there is quite a bit of walking and many steps, and some areas can be slippery, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. That said, if you're able to do the walk, it's 100% worth it. A truly beautiful and memorable experience.

Entrance fee was small (about 8CHF). But wow, what a view! And the flowers! Heavenly. The smell of Jasmine was everywhere. You either can walk right up or take the elevator from the piazza on the bottom where you will also find a Migros in case you need some groceries for a picnic. The Castelgrande is the oldest and largest of Bellinzona's three iconic castles, earning UNESCO World Heritage status for its spectacular medieval fortifications. Perched on a rocky hill settled since the Neolithic era, the fortress was heavily expanded by the Dukes of Milan in the 13th to 15th centuries to control strategic Alpine trade routes. Its striking skyline is dominated by two massive medieval structures: the 27-meter White Tower and the 28-meter Black Tower. Today, the site features a masterful modern restoration by architect Aurelio Galfetti, housing an archaeological museum and a panoramic elevator carved directly into the bedrock. You really get some nice views from up here. You can walk some of the walls and climb a tower. All free of charge. Only the small museum has a fee. There's a big lawn to picnic right in center and another huge area just on the other side of the wall including some picnic tables. The day we went the Giro d'Italia was in town. Lots of things going on. Including some live medieval music right here on top. Something you won't see every day. It's a great place to take in some history or just to enjoy the views. The best views of the Castelgrande itself you will get from the Castel Montebello. That one is only a short walk away from here and shouldn't be missed as well.

Can't believe I'm the first to review Castelgrande in Bellinzona This was probably my fourth visit…read moreand it was just as lovely as the first. Although, I must admit that I especially enjoy it in October when the leaves are changing, the temperature has dropped and the tourists are nowhere to be found. Tip: grab a pastry or drink from Migros at the base of the castle and bring it up with you for a picnics with a view. My fondest memory from Castelgrande was sitting on the top overlooking the mountains eating a rhubarb tart with my mom. A few fun facts about Bellinzona's treasure: -it's free to visit (fee for the museum) - received unesco heritage site status in 2000 for cultural significance -there's an elevator to the top helping this spot serve everyone -there are plenty of steps to be had if you're hoping to go to the "top top"
