The dining room was also very nice and very new (you can even make out the faint smell of fresh paint). The food, though a little pricey for lunch, was delicious. I started off with the salmon and eggs and that was some of the best I've had. I then went on to the steak and chips and that was really good too. Parts of the steak were a little chewy but I guess every cut it different. They cooked my steak just the way I like it, medium-rear. Being used to the hyper-professional and over-friendly service at The Hospital Club, I was a bit taken aback by two staff members who shared the lift and completely ignored me when I got lost. Perhaps no longer the misfits of its early days in the 18th centure, but certainly a good mix of interesting folk which gives each visit a bit of an edge. On Greek street, on the same side with the Barclays cash machines and across the street from Pillars of Hercules , you will see this tiny, blue door with the number 57 on it. You knock, a husky voiced bouncer opens the door and asks you if you have a membership- you say "No, I just want to have a drink. C'mon, let us in." He lets out a sigh, lets you in and tells you- "Right, go downstairs and pay £4 entry". You say "ok" but they never ask for your money- I think its their way of filtering their customers- see who's willing to pay and who says "I ain't got no £4 to pay". When you go down the stair you realise that you are actually in someones house...or on the set of one of Tarantinos movies. You open the door and you are instantly transported to the 50s-60s. I love it! Its kind of grotty looking but I think that what adds to the atmosphere. The tables have oilcloths and the chairs have little worn out cushions. The drinks are cheap, the people are friendly and talkative (I met and had drinks with the guy who invented the tile app http://www.thetileapp.com ). It has a small back garden where you can smoke -- but it kinda feels like you're in a tiny prison cell when you are outside. The bar staff is super friendly and all smiles. If you're lucky enough you might get to meet and talk to the lady of the house. Go and enjoy a night of wonders and wonderful people.

Each order came with four scones, eight large pastries, four finger sandwiches, and a tasty prawn tartlet. Definitely recommend the tea service if you get a chance to visit the Royal Automobile Club!
