Our group of about 20 were happily greeted every morning with a delicious family style breakfast. It was always served with kindness, professionalism and grace. Château de Rilly was a wonderful home away from home. I will hope that I can visit Château de Rilly once again. Did I mention the exquisite grounds and sunsets? Please see the couple of pictures I added to this post.

This is what Château de Rilly does to me. The staff is the real star here. From the moment we stepped inside each and every staff member did their all in making us feel welcomed and taken care of. They helped us with dinner and winery reservations, recommended bars in Reims and set us up for the bike tour we did on our own. They were friendly and relaxed making us feel very special. The room was on the smaller side when compared to American standard but average size in European measures. The large bathroom containing both a tub and a shower made up for the smallish room as we were two female friends traveling together and we all know women like their sink and counter space! The rooms feel somewhat newly renovated but still manage to display old charm with some antique pieces and old style design. I do believe there are larger rooms on the 1st floor so make sure to ask when you make your reservation. Breakfast was not included in the room charge and you could choose from continental or full breakfast (18 EUR) with a wonderful spread of bread, pastries, home made jams, scrambled eggs, sausages, ham, cheese, fresh juice, locally made yoghurt, pancakes and coffee and tea. All served in the beautiful dining room lined with large windows overlooking the grounds. We tried sitting outside the first morning but noticed quickly that the wasps were very keen on our food so we had to go inside. Unfortunately we never had dinner here but we did enjoy some cheese, smoked salmon, salad and a local blanc de blancs the night we arrived. All was exquisite! There is a jacuzzi and sauna in the basement for everyone's enjoyment. I would have loved an outdoor pool but you cannot have everything I guess. Accommodations are not super cheap but it does not break the bank either making it a perfect luxury vacation getaway. This is a super strong 4-star. I applaud Chateau de Rilly for the outstanding service contributing to our fantastic experience and I will be returning for sure!

The lawns on both sides were super clean and evenly cut, and the way the side buildings and arches line up makes everything feel really organized and planned out. When I got closer to the front of the building, the details really stood out and the whole place just gave off a really formal and almost royal type of vibe. One thing I also noticed was the water surrounding parts of the structure, which added a cool visual but also made it feel a little more separated from everything else. If I had to say one downside, it might feel a little too structured for some people since everything is so precise and controlled. But overall, I would definitely recommend checking it out because the design is really impressive, and you can tell a lot of effort went into making everything look balanced and visually appealing.

I find that a lot of castles are just interesting from the outside, often the inside is dark, damp and empty. This particular castle has many interesting items on exhibit, as well as shockingly beautiful and unique rooms on the interior. I have visited palaces and castles in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Russia, England, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland etc and this particular castle was very unique in how it was decorated. The aspects of plants, animals, mythological monsters and history are all intertwined to create a very interesting style through out the palace: from porcupines on the walls, sculptures of bulls contemplating slugs and monsters built into fireplaces. However, I do recommend finding a tour guide. We utilized the recording device tour and were extremely disappointed. The recording/guide was role playing and a bit confusing. The worst part of the exercise was the need to match the map to the actual points of interest, which could be aggravating. Another tip, go down to the cellars! It is a lot more interesting than one may expect! We noticed a lot of groups skipping this area and recommend against it.

For 6 Euro, grab a brochure in English (several languages are available) and take the numbered walking tour, which leads you through the various restored rooms upstairs. There's an interesting display of lead sculptures in another section. Do not miss the basement section full of grave sculptures. When you walk in, voices starting whispering and projections of one of the sculptures shows up on the wall, which is all rather creepy, but interesting. The grounds are lovely, and you get a romanticised version of what the chateau was like in medieval times. Not totally historic, but well done.

The estate is quiet, and yet there are a number of activities within the gates, such as tennis, a pool (open during warm weather), a swing set, and beautiful gardens. The chataux itself exudes the feeling of living in the past, while providing a space where you can still enjoy a reheated pastry from the local bakery. I stayed in the château for a week, and while I loved my time in Paris itself, the château was the absolute highlight of my trip. The on-site caretaker and other residents were welcoming and kind to the woman who spent the entire week butchering their language, and while there were several families staying at the château over the weekend, the place didn't feel crowded in the least. LM was also always available if I needed to contact her about the property. Honestly, I felt like Elizabeth Bennett on holiday during the day, and had the urge to wander the grounds like Catherine Earnshaw had wandered the moors by night. It was perfect. Driving up to the gate felt like something out of a fairy tale. Before reaching the wrought iron gate, you first drive through a tree-lined drive that transports you to another time. Once inside the grounds, the château looms ahead, daunting while simultaneously welcoming. The grounds were perfect for a mist-filled morning breakfast on the terrace, a lazy afternoon spent reading by the pond, or watching the sunset while munching on a pastry gleaned for that very purpose during the day's adventures. The flat itself is lovely. The bathroom is much larger than ones I am used to in Europe, and had a seemingly endless supply of hot water. The kitchen was perfect for the space, and entirely functional. In fact, it was much nicer than my current flat's kitchen! The one bedroom was quite comfortable, and there was plenty of space in the living room for extra sleepers without the space feeling overcrowded at all. What really sold me was how the view outside was seemingly transported into the flat, reflecting off of the shining hard wood floors that lent an antique feeling to the space. I wholeheartedly recommend Château de la Trousse for your next vacation spot. Its reasonable distance from the city affords a space in which you can relax, breathe, and enjoy living. After a busy day touring museums, galleries, and attractions, I loved coming back to such a unique space, away from the hustle I enjoyed during the day, to unwind and watch the sunset over the valley while breathing in the history, and ambiance of the château .

This place is a centuries old castle that's been modernized. There is a lot of history, and really old art pieces and artifacts throughout the castle, so it's also a bit of a museum. However, to me it feels a bit run down, but maybe that's part of the charm. It was definitely not as luxurious as I imagined or hoped it would be. I'm a traveler, and during my life I've stayed in accommodations ranging from hostels to the most luxurious hotels in the world. With it being a castle, I envisioned a giant plush bed with lots of pillows and an ornate, beautiful marble bathroom. I got neither. Though it was all very clean, so no complaints in that area. We were in Champagne during harvest, and this area is more farmland than vineyard and, so it really smelled like a farm. And the flies were also abuzz. This is obviously not the hotels fault, but just something to be weary of if you come during the beginning of fall. We only stayed one night, and that was good enough for me. We had a nice time at the spa and great dinner at the restaurant, which are both separately reviewed. Our only disappointment, is that we missed out on breakfast, but there is no way we could eat again after the dinner.

We recently stayed at Domaine Les Crayères in Reims and had an impeccable stay. Not only is the property located in a convenient place, the grounds of the property themselves are nothing short of exquisite. Upon arrival we were greeted by the valet who kindly took our bags straight away to our room, which was not yet ready, as we were a little early, but no matter as we enjoyed a glass of champagne in the Le Parc restaurant as we planned out the next hour or so of our day. After driving around in the countryside and purchasing a few bottles of champagne we made our way back and were so pleasantly surprised with the exception quality and fine details of our room. Truly this is one of the few properties we've stayed at that did everything right from the small touches in the room like a gigantic chocolate Easter egg and Guerlain toiletries to the functional space with multiple TVs (not that we used them much) and fantastic shower. We did not have time to book the on-site restaurant, Le Parc, but from what we have heard and based off our experience at the brasserie, Le Jardin, we would highly recommend booking dinner there - you will enjoy it. Take your time. Soak up the atmosphere, and dress with a purpose! We have stayed at some of the nicer hotels in the world. Silica, Park Hyatt Kyoto, and other chateau's and estates, and Domaine Les Crayères was as good as anywhere we have stayed. As a tip, the entry to the property is a little weird if you don't know what you're looking for. Depending on the direction you are coming from, likely Paris, you'll want to turn left at the small left turn lane which is in front of the property and then immediately turn left onto what feels like a sidewalk or somewhere you're not supposed to drive onto. You're in the right spot! Pull the car up and the valet will take over from there. Enjoy Reims!

After reviewing all of the options at Disney Village, he decided that King Ludwig's Castle fit the bill the best, but it was an ultimately disappointing meal all-around. We were seated promptly but given French menus. Not a big deal, we were able to figure out what we needed to. But it took an eternity to be visited by the server. I actually was ready to leave and find something else but we stayed and the server was very friendly, if not very good. I ordered the Prince combo meal of the braised pork and creme brulee, but it wasn't priced correctly on the check. Given how long the meal took, I just let it go and ate the $4. The pork was not very good at all, though the mashed potatoes that came with it were fantastic. The creme brulee was decent, but disappointing in that it was a bit watery, and less flan/custardy as it should have been. The biggest disappointment was that this was my husband's first taste of creme brulee.
