Amazing. At The Commons shopping center with lots of restaurants and stores, you will find this one single Egyptian Building sitting at the very end of a lot with lots of parking available. Odd place, but worth it for people looking to explore new photo spots. It's just a very small section outside. Egyptian hieroglyphics and feeling like you are someplace abroad for a moment. This is just one odd building in a rare spot. Maybe the developer didn't get funding during and after pandemic to build something else here or expand from the idea. It's unique. There were contractors working inside/maintenance work. Nothing to see other than exterior of building. Good photo spot. The U.S. needs to build more unique spots like this or more local museums would be pretty cool. Free public viewing. Good work of art to appreciate. read more

Can't go to Egypt right now?? You can.... well, sort of!! This life-size Abu Simbel replica is one of my favorite Southern California spots for photos because the backdrop makes it look like you accidentally teleported into an archeological expedition!! What else can you do except look for restaurants and places to visit in Chino Hills? You should definitely check out the Egyptian Building in The Commons in Chino Hills Shopping Center. It's an excellent area to shoot photos, however it can get very packed and crowded. Definitely a good place to check it out. read more

Nice fun spot of local flavor. If you're in the area and you want some neat pictures OR if you're hankering to do a Yu-Gi-Oh! or FGO cosplay shoot with really neat backdrop, this is the perfect place for it. According to the Internet, the building is based on the "Egyptian Abu Simbel Temples that were carved into the mountains of the Nile River in 1244 B.C." It also depicts Egyptian rulers such as FGO's Ozymandias himself and his wife, Queen Nefertari, as well as the goddess Hathor. There isn't as much detail on the back side facing the freeway, but the sides and front are really neat. Love the small details of some of the statues and parts of the wall being "destroyed" to add the "authentic" look of it. Different sized "statues", Egyptian deities, and hieroglyphics, pretty neat! There's also a small looking hidden door to the side that makes it look like you're heading into a pharaoh's tomb, which is neat as well. Who knows if the restaurant will ever open again, or if something takes it over, but it's definitely worth a quick stop. Just an FYI, I think there is a security constantly watching over this place, so don't do anything silly! read more

What can you say about a building that is not complete? Because that's exactly what the Egyptian Building is, a building that was never finished. As the story is told, it was being constructed as a restaurant, but was never finished. The exterior is complete. And, it is very visual. But you can look through the glass doors and see that the interior is wide open. There's nothing inside. Why someone hasn't taken over the structure, I don't know? But, in its current state, it is unused. In previous times, it looks like a lot of people came to this structure for headshots, TikTok, postings, Instagram posts, and various things like that. And, you can still do that in some ways. What has happened in the more recent times, however, is that the main area that offered the best photographic backdrop has been sealed off. There are signs posted that you can't go up on the statues, and more times than not, there's a security guard watching the property. So, your photographic options have become quite limited. Basically, this is a structure built in a strip mall. Though it's very visually interesting, it may not be what it once was, as your photographic options are now very limited. read more

This building was apparently supposed to be a restaurant prior to Covid, but is now just an empty building. It is a sight to see architecturally. It's a free standing building, located in a strip mall. There's a security guard sitting in his truck, parked near the side of the building, making sure no one decides to climb the statues. There's even a sign posted on the corner of the curb, deterring people from climbing the statues or driving on the sidewalk. You can take a peek inside through the glass door, where you can see where the work stopped. It is too bad they didn't complete the restaurant. read more

If you appreciate unique architecture and quick photo opportunities, the Egyptian-style building in Chino Hills is definitely worth a 10 to 15-minute visit. This structure was designed for a themed restaurant that never opened due to the pandemic. It features intricate details and an Egyptian-inspired design, which is not commonly seen in Southern California. While it's not a tourist attraction where you would spend more than 30 minutes, it provides a cool and quirky backdrop for photos for FREE. Egyptian replica of the Temple of Abu Simbel right here in Chino Hills, CA. It can be seen while driving on SR 71. It is located at "The Commons at Chino Hills" shopping center. The detailed exterior of the building is stunning. The interior is still unfinished. There is no date of when this Egyptian restaurant called "Farou Food" will be open. I was in the neighborhood to buy some fresh egg in which sea kelp and omega 3 was added in the feed. I found this place on google map before so why not gave this place a visit while it is only a short distance away. It was sure a good camera spot. The restaurant inside the building was not opened therefore it should not be taken into account while doing a review. The review should be based on how good it look and how easy to get a parking spot. It was located in a strip mall and there were plenty of parking space. read more

The Egyptian Building feels like I am in Cario, Egypt without having to fly there, absolutely incredible! I've always wanted to go to Egypt to see the beautiful architecture, but when I found out that the Egyptian Building is in our own backyard of Los Angeles, I had to visit. The Egyptian Building is located in Chino Hills, which is really one of SoCal's hidden gems. The Egyptian Building is also close to the Indian temple, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (Thai Temple). They're literally all neighbors and within the vicinity. The structure is modeled after the Abu Simbel Temple and was originally supposed to be an Egyptian restaurant called Farou Food. So now it's just a closed restaurant that was supposed to open during the pandemic, but slowly becoming a popular tourist spot to take beautiful photos! The exterior is finished, but the interior still needs to be completed. As of this writing, the building is still fenced off, but you can take pictures from the back. The statues are enormous and they did such an incredible job of bringing height to the structure. Do be careful as there is some protruding metal as I cut my leg against the facade! Overall, it really is such an incredible monument. For quick reference, the building is located in the Commons Shopping Center with other businesses like BJ's and Hobby Lobby. So plenty of parking and plenty of opportunity to feel like you travelled around the world! Spectacular! read more

Date of visit: September 19, 2022 Who would've thunk it that a replica of the Abu Simbel temple from Egypt would be in Chino Hills, of all places? I'm always on the lookout for places off the beaten path to check out in my travels, and the Egyptian Building (as it's known in some travel websites online) stood out due to its proximity to my girlfriend's place in Diamond Bar. This is actually meant to be an Egyptian restaurant called Farou Food - but due to COVID-related delays, this place is still unfinished indoors. Be that as it may, the exterior of the building is an exact replica of the Abu Simbel temple, down to the missing head of one of the Ramesses II statues like the original was over 3000 years ago. The other three sides feature Ramesses' wife Nefertari and his patron goddess Hathor. (Smaller statues on the base of the Ramesses figures are of his family members.) Unfortunately, besides walking around the building to get a good view of the statues, there's nothing else to see - as I mentioned, the restaurant isn't open yet, but there's other restaurants in the area to check out. Hopefully next year, when Farou Food opens, it'll live up to the grandeur of the Abu Simbel replica that will house it. read more

This is a fun place to get your Egyptian pictures and look like you're really in Egypt. All sides of the building have some sort of Egyptian decor. The right side of the building is the exact replica of Abu Simbel. The owner did a really good job of copying what it would actually look like in Egypt. From the hieroglyphs to the Egyptian gods to the pharaohs. It takes a lot of work to do that. I really hope the restaurant opens. read more

This building is located in busy restaurant plaza. It was believed to be a restaurant but unfinished and now just empty. I came here just for taken some pictures feeling like I am in Egyptian time. The status look like it wouldn't stand in times as one of the structure falling apart. It is not that big as it looks in the pictures. read more

The photos are real. The statutes huge. And the aesthetics awesome. It's an abandoned(?) building that was once an almost restaurant that still sits unassumingly grand in the middle of a shopping plaza. Weird!!!! Worth the drive?!? Ummmm... maybe if you happened to be headed this way anyway. But know that it's a 5 minute detour (likely one and done) but undeniably a great photo op! read more

Looking back, it ended up being her last adventure before mobility issues began limiting her ability to get out and explore. I'm grateful we were able to share a day like this together while she was still able to enjoy the trails, the fresh air, and the sunshine. For me, Chino Hills State Park isn't just a beautiful place to hike. It's a place tied to one of my favorite memories with a very good dog. I'll always be thankful for that.

The drive into the park and throughout can be a bit sketchy at parts because there are times when the road is so narrow, only one car can pass at a time. They have small turnouts, but it got interesting at some places. You also have to watch out for hikers that are parking down the road and walking into the park to avoid the entrance fee. The ranger at the entrance was very friendly and helpful. He handled the exchange for the $10 entrance fee. You can pay online with their QR Code, but I didn't have service, and they also charge you an additional $0.55 service fee for that service. There are restrooms right at the entrance. The facilities are well-kept and stocked, which we all appreciated. We parked near the Rolling M Ranch Campground. Looks like a decent camping area. They don't allow campfires though. There were campsites available. We started out hiking Ranger Ridge Trail, then swung down to Raptor Ridge Trail. Whew! My quads and calves were BURNING! Those are some steep climbs there! These particular trails are also very narrow with a ton of overgrowth. I was glad I wore long-sleeves, but should have worn pants because the brush tore my legs up a bit. There's also a ton of foxtails and they kept getting stuck in the top of our shoes. Ouch! When we swung back down to Telegraph Canyon Trail, that was wide enough for us all to walk together and had nice spots of shade. That trail was well maintained. There are a ton of hiking trails here. I'd be willing to keep coming back to explore more!

Adjacent to Prado Dam is the Prado Wetlands, which the dam created. The wetlands are a protected area that offers great opportunities for bird watching and other nature activities. In fact, my husband thought it was overkill that security searched everyone coming in and strictly enforced dress code (no gang attire), but he's not from the area so he doesn't understand. Overall, we were very happy with this venue and so was my pops. It was totally his style. And I also have some nice little nostalgic memories of this venue from back in the day when my friends and I would get our Aqua Net and our groove on. Some may say it's little pricey for the area, but it's a historical land mark in the city of Pomona, AND you can bring in your own food (instant savings) AND your own liquor (tremendous instant savings). AND they clean up for you at the end of the event--totally awesome when you danced too much in those nonsensible shoes and just want to kick them off and go home to bed. Staff was great too--office personnel very helpful and professional. Security team also in close contact and very professional especially during encounter with one tequila faced guest . . . I am having my wedding reception here this year. They have a kitchen, round tables, gold chiavari…read morechairs. The price is affordable and fits 300 people. There is also a bridal room and a restroom for the couple only, as well. The restroom is of course aside from the guests restrooms. The place has a great character to it. I really like it. The design is late Victorian an the lady that rents the place is super helpful. You may DYO food and drinks. This is a super plus!
