Found just a few meters from museums, churches and the shops of Altstadt, opening hours of 12h00 on weekdays and 10h00 on Saturday ongoing till 18h00, it was after a brief wait that English-fluent servers placed three scoops in a bowl for 6€, the hard-packed texture immediately off-putting with "The Pancake" over-churned to the point of crystallization and only Butterkeks offering any real depth thanks to the roasted Nuts mingling with Chocolate and Shortbread.

Of especial note is the kirsch gelato. This is German SOUR cherry, not the sicky sweet stuff of American cherry vanilla. The gelato tastes almost medicinal at first. Then when you realize it is sour cherry rather than cherry cherry, the gelato gets a charm of its own. I was in love by the end of my cone. Topping it was a first rate frozen lemon yogurt. My wife's passion-fruit yogurt was top notch as well. Overall, a place I would want to come back to about 100 times. Per day.

The vibe here is a bit like at Pierre Marcolini, my favorite chocolate shop of all time. You can pick from a wide selection of chocolates, macarons, choose a drink, and then enjoy it all from the comfy cushions in the display window. If you don't mind people staring at you and enjoy staring back, it's the perfect spot. You can also buy beautifully packaged gifts. I saw some seasonal boxes that were exceptionally pretty. I would recommend the chocolate covered oranges, strawberries, and most of all this one candy whose name I can't recall. It's for Christmas, has a honey/ginger cake base, jam, and marzipan. Ask the nice people who work here, they'll tell you want it's called. If you have trouble choosing, you can always ask for recommendations.

The man that was taking orders was very nice and patient. He took time to explain how it was working and what we could have, even if he was a bit overwhelmed. The ice cream is very good, the different flavors go very well together. Of course, it's more expensive than the usual ice creams but the quantity you get for 5€ - 6 rolls - is quite generous. Concerning the decor, I'm not a fan but that's not really important when you're having a good ice cream :)

Anyway, it's located on the corner of the town square. there are tables outside where you can sit and people watch and listen to street musicians....violin, chelo, flute.... then there are always people who will come and serenade you... so romantic. The town square is cobble stone. the buildings are tall and stuck together and retains it's gothic architecture. There is a large fountain in the middle of the square. Sitting there you will feel like you are in a postcard! it is accessible by train, streetcar or underground rail, bus too. walking distance from the train station. *inexpensive & very relaxing experience.
