After a really bad experience with the local, well known franchise movers, I called EJ and Sons. I could not be any more pleased with the job they did! While they are an economical moving company, they are, more importantly to me, a quality moving company! The team they sent were efficient, accommodating beyond expectation, and plain old fun the be around! A while back I had to write a scathing review of two guys and their truck. I used this moving company 5 times in the last 10 years. Big jobs and small jobs. It was easy to communicate with their office staff and set up the moves. They showed up on time with the appropriate number of people to accomplish a safe move and were very pleasant to work with. Not this time, I called and made the reservation for the move. Gave all of the detailed information he needed and was expecting everything to go smoothly as it always had in the past. I got a call 2 Days later asking for my information and when I said I just gave you all this information 2 days ago he told me he just was trying to make certain that everything was scheduled properly, I told him they had moved me just 2 years ago and that I was just moving about a mile and a half away this time but I still needed a large truck because it was a big job, and he said they could handle it. Come Friday morning at 10 AM, No one was here, 10:30, Still no one. I called and spoke with a young man who asked me what the address was! I told him I'd given them all my. information twice already, but gave it to him again. He said they'd be here in 20 minutes. It was 50 minutes before the 2 men arrived with 83 yr old Grandpa driving the truck. I was expecting 3 men, but they were polite and friendly so I hoped everything would go smoothly from that point on. I was so wrong. The move that had taken 4 and 1/2 hours in 2024 took 9 hours this time. Despite the fact that the first move was from Holt to Okemos and this move was only a mile and a half away from my current home. They moved slowly and inefficiently. One of the young men was having some health issues and the other young man was lifting and moving items that needed 2 men to move safely. After finally arriving at my house after 11:00 a.m they finally left at 8:30 PM, even though they were not able to complete my move. There were many items left behind because the truck wasn't big enough to hold all my belongings. Or possibly they didn't pack it properly to make the move because I didn't have any trouble moving there 2 years ago. They removed basement door from the hinges, and they never put it back on. They moved the washer and dryer and needed to use my tools. When they got to the new house they didn't bring the tools with them so I had to drive back to the old place and get the tools they left behind. Unfortunately, they still didn't hook up my washer and dryer. The move from Holt to Okemos in 2024 cost me $1,050. I was charged $1650 this time for an incomplete job. They did offer to come back and complete the move, but I was so exhausted. I just wanted them to leave and I knew I would be charged more. There's absolutely no reason that the move 2 years ago should have been so smooth and easy and $600 cheaper than yesterday's disaster. My fiancée and I hired these movers last Friday. We had most of the house packed up and they just had to move it from point A to B. My fiancée had numerous phone calls with the owner EJ about things to bring that weren't packed up (vacuums, broom, shoe rack, etc.) and what to leave behind. I'm talking at least 10 calls. We were not home when they came to pick up our belongings as we were already in the new home. We came back to our original house today to do some cleaning before it gets sold and found MANY concerns. They had left our front door unlocked ( it had a lock pad on the front handle to put the key back in after locking it), 3 of our house lights left on (that were still paying on), the air set to 50 degrees when we had left it off due to laying it still, a piece of drywall ripped off our wall ( when they took down our tv) and it was taped using blue painters tape back onto the wall, and other things. We called the company and EJ denies all of this, was very condescending towards us and refused to take ownership. NEVER use them. read more

Terrible, unprofessional moving company..use at your own risk. I stupidly used them 14 years ago and they arrived about 10 am went to an unscheduled lunch at12pm without asking me or mentioning it at all..damaged some items and when I called to complain..one of the actual movers, the son of the owner at the time I was told was so aggressive with me he was so rude to the point of me feeling threatened by it and I mean yes this person was saying I wasnt going to like it if he came back to my house. I told him I dont know who who thought he was speaking to or why he was speaking like this but I assured he will u try me because I promised that I would have the police waiting for him should he choose to do it. He did not come out again. Called again got the father who promised to send me a refund of 175.00 which 14 years later I'm still waiting for. No I did not make a fuss of it because if a person shows you who they are believe them. If your word means nothing.. then telling me something twice wont make it mean anything period point blank. That's how I feel about it..but I've never forgotten the rotten, unprofessional behavior I received back then and I knew two other families that were moving at that time from the same place I moved from and made sure I told them all about this terrible service..so they lost two other jobs just from my job and who knows how many more from that. So I'd rather hire a professsional..respectful company whose word means something and people know how to speak and treat others ..this at least back then was not one of those.Accidents happen but when u get aggressive to the point where it is sounding like law enforcement may need to be involved that's inappropriate to put it mildly. I dont post alot of reviews I admit but it's time to reloacat again and they popped up so just thought I'd let everyone know my experience..is it possible to give less than 1 star? These guys stepped in at a time of true need for us! Somehow we messed up and didn't realize that our apartment lease had ended the day before I called EJ so we had to act fast to get moved out. Every company we called so far was booked up for the next week. I called after hours and left a pretty desperate sounding voicemail... desperate sounding enough that he called back within an hour! They squeezed us in the following morning- THANK GOD - and did a great job quickly getting us moved out. Very lucky to have found them on Yelp and would recommend!! read more

EJ the owner was extremely helpful from responding to my quote online to after the move was over. The two young men that assisted in the move were respectful and hard workers. They were on time and completely moved me out of my 2 bedroom apartment in under 2 hours. Would recommend this company to all my friends in family. read more

We had a negative experience with another moving company and needed someone to come and help us repack our shipping containers in a pinch. EJ came through same day and did a thorough and quick job. Our stuff made the 1000 mile move unharmed. Highly recommend. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars, I would! I called a week ahead of time to arrange to have movers help us unload our moving truck when we arrived from out of state. I was a little skeptical from the initial phone call, since I asked for early in the morning and they said they'd be there at 10 am. Well, lo and behold, they did not show up at all. I called and left a message letting them know that I was waiting for them, but they never even returned my phone call. I ended up calling another place (Your Friends Moving) and they were able to help me out. I was so disappointed as I had read the positive reviews online and really needed their help at this critical time. read more

Owner's son handled our move, and they broke many items. He said he would come back the next day to replace broken items and move the rest of items from garage into the house. He never showed up or called. My husband called him many times, and he kept promising to come and take care of things. He never did. We submitted insurance claim. Nothing was ever taken care of by him or his insurance company. Total rip off! Very angry about the experience. read more
