I hired EJH to perform restoration work on my home after a fire January 17, 2021. They sent a project manager out to give me an estimate, and I was told that I would be able to be back in my home within 4 to 6 weeks. I asked for an estimate of cost, and was told that I could reasonably expect a cost of $50,000 to $60,000 at most. Actual final cost of repair was over $110,000. Demo started that week, and was complete within a month. However, that is the point at which work stopped. The project manager who had been on my project left the company suddenly, and a new project manager was assigned. That is the point at which communication took a drastic turn for the worse. The new PM would never return calls. I had to leave messages for the company owner to get any contact back. There was no work at all completed for more than 6 weeks. My insurance adjuster kept asking for a written estimate, and told me to tell EJH that they wouldn't be approving any repairs until they had a written estimate. Finally after 3 months, I showed up at their office and refused to leave without a meeting face to face. When I said I wanted a time frame of when it would be done, the PM looked at me unbelievably that I actually expected a date, a week, a month or even a year...that meeting was in August 2021, and I was told I would be home by October. Work started again the middle of September, and a 3rd PM was assigned, who told me I would be home by Christmas 2021. The work was MOSTLY complete by the middle of March 2022, and the PM wanted a check for payment in full even though the work wasn't yet complete. To this date, December 15 2022, there is still work they said would be completed and has not yet been done. Do NOT hire EJH. read more

I called and talked with a receptionist to get a quote for an addition but no one called. I went in their website and filled out the form for a quote and no one responded to that either. I called a third time and received apologies for the lack of communication. A person came out two days prior to Thanksgiving to quote us in adding a sunroom. It is December 23 and we have not heard back from anybody. I'm not that interested in working with a business that you have to work FOR. I thought it should be the other way around. We will absolutely not recommend them to any of our friends nor will we continue with this company. It's been nothing but a huge disappointment. read more

I was so disappointed with this company. It took them almost 3 weeks to complete a 1 to 2 day job at the most. I am still not happy with the work done, the bathroom floor was laid and had cracks in the tile, was not laid completely to the wall. Workman had to come back to redo, still not happy with the job. The carpet installer covered my drain and did not cut the carpet even or put in baseboards. Had to call the company back and someone was sent out to install baseboards, he did an excellent job. They show up early in the morning with no phone call the day before or day of to say they are coming. I personally would not recommended this company. read more

Do you enjoy stress and sorting out other people's egregious record-keeping? EJH could be for you. Had a bathroom renovation completed in 2019 by EJH. The results weren't perfect but they were satisfactory. In July 2021 -- two years later! -- I was notified that EJH sent my name to a collections agency for the job that I had already paid in full. The first clue about their incompetence was that they had been mailing Past Due notices to an entirely wrong address where I have never lived. They were even trying to bill me (with an outdated invoice) for work that EJH never performed. Fortunately, I have the paperwork, emails and texts with the project manager to prove my account is paid. When I tried to resolve the issue with Mary and Jim in EJH Billing, I was met with disorganized, indignant, unapologetic ATTITUDE -- even though they could not refute my evidence and had to issue a zero-balance statement (per my request). Not surprisingly, my name was still misspelled on the final statement. read more

Old sliding doors had let in water (unbeknownst to me), causing damage to the subfloor in the corner of my living room. I didn't notice the damage until two years after replacing the sliding doors. Needing this fixed, I called EJH Construction. They were always on-time and very quick to respond to any phone calls. They said it would take seven days to complete, though they ended up getting it done in only two (which in turn lowered the final bill!). After they finished the construction part, our carpet had to be laid back down. I assumed a one or two day wait for the carpet guy to come out. To my pleasant surprise, he came the same day, laying down all the carpet and then putting all my furniture back in place. I had my living room back in less than 48 hours. All in all, it was an easy and stress-free process. Highly recommended!! read more

During a particularly violent wind storm, EJH Construction was able to quickly secure our roof, and prevent further water damage to our ceiling and our master bedroom. Following up, EJH was able to complete an complete restoration of our roof, repair interior to our ceiling, paint, carpentry, and everything else was excellent. All the work done in a timely fashion with professionalism, cleanliness and a great crew of guys. Highly recommend EJH Construction. read more

We had a pipe burst under our kitchen sink and the water did a lot of damage to our kitchen and basement. Ejh Construction and Mike, our project manager, took the stress out of a very stressful situation. The renovation of our home went quickly and the final product was gorgeous. Our home was nicer than before the damage. All of the employees and carpenters were attentive and friendly. We appreciate the time and effort they put into our project. read more

Another problem, ejh said vents were cleaned. Found out water has been dripping inside new furnace. Repairman came out and found a bunch of burnt wood in a/c drain inside furnace. So much for duct cleaning per ejh. Another $200.00 spent. Very shoddy work was done. read more

We live in Royal Oak, Michigan and in January during one of the our very cold spells, we had a frozen pipe burst behind a second story bathroom wall. By the time it woke me up the water had flooded our living room and the water poured into our basement with about two inches on the floor before I turned off the water supply. The damage was extensive from drywall, plaster, ruined carpet, furniture and on and on. We initially hired another firm to begin drying, but it was clear they did not have the time to deal with our loss expediently. EJH Construction was recommended to us as replacement restoration contractor and they were terrific from beginning to end. I do not use that word lightly. They lived up to nearly every time and quality commitment that they made and when a small problem or two arose, they took care of it quickly. I could provide a number of examples of the their service that made the work go faster and more convenient for us, but suffice to say they were very customer service oriented. Like many of us, I have had numerous challenging experiences with contractors. I would rank our experience with EJH at the very top of the list. Our project coordinator, Jason Day, is a very good communicator and manager. He set realistic expectations for us regarding completion of projects, employed capable sub-contractors where necessary and had enough EJH personnel to provide and excellent end result from drying/restoration, through the entire remodeling process that was necessary. If we had a challenge or question along the way, he was very responsive. Our project went smoothly as a result of his management and skill. Finally, he has re-assured us that if we have a problem that the work is warrantied for a year and he will be equally responsive in warranty work. We already had one small painting problem, which was addressed with two days of our call. We found all of EJH's personnel to polite and respectful of our home. I had the misfortune of having my basement flood in a matter of minutes. 7 inches of sewer water later with a broken sump pump, I called my insurance agent for some guidance and recommendations as to what to do to remediate the problem. After being told my policy did not cover the damage and without receiving any valid emergency contractor references, I turned to a friend who strongly suggested that I contact the owner of EJH Construction; John Hale Jr. This turned out to be the best advice. Within the hour, John was at my residence with a crew assessing the damage and guiding me on how to best address the problem. Mr. Hale was extremely professional, always kept me informed on next steps, and what to expect in terms of costs and timing for each steps of the project. He offered me several options when the time came to finally remodel the space once the damage was mitigated. His patience and calmness, especially his skills sets and his knowledge of what had to be done made this unpleasant experience much easier to go through. Felt like I was dealing with Mike Holmes!!! The crew that was assigned to do the work was incredible. Not only were they buttoned up, clean, knowledgeable and trust-worthy but the quality of their work exceeded my expectations.
