This morning I went to pick it up. I stood for 15 mins (there is a clock behind the counter) waiting for anyone to acknowledge my existence. The girl at the register was standing staring into space ignoring me while another customer was on her phone. Clearly she can only deal with one customer at a time. Finally she asked me: do you want to order a cake too? No I just want to pick up. Annoyed she shouted out at other busy wait staff to assist me while she continued to stare into space. A busy girl came and asked me and simply grabbed a box just behind the counter and gave it to me. ! Opened it. Covered in chocolate. Seriously???? Cut the cake up last night. No strawberries except for the four on the top. A scape of jam that was barely there. No one likes it. Chucked the rest.

They were formally, and really still remain, known as Greensborough Cake kitchen. They enjoy a wide reaching and fantastic reputation as one of the best places in northeastern Melbourne to get a special event cake or even just a slice for a morning tea. They make amazing looking cakes here but really it is all about the taste. From a towering custard crockenbouche to their amazing range of Italian sponges filled with different Italian custards they do amazingly good cake. My most recent discovery is their lemon tarts. A completely reasonable $12 gets you a family sized tart that is both zingy and creamy and just lemon flavoured heaven on a plate. They also do home made pies and have a few tables in store for customers to enjoy coffee and desert or light meals. Pelligra has moved to a new location on Main Road just behind Greensborough Hotel. I would like to think they are my secret, but who am I kidding? Book ahead if you have a special event or over Christmas as this place gets crazy busy!

The first time $8 for a sandwich we were told was $6, the second time we were charged $15.60 for two vegetarian pies when the sign says they are $6.80 each making the total $13.60 and today we were overcharged $2 AGAIN on a donut. The same woman has overcharged us each time, short blond hair in her 60's who actually spends most of her time leaning against the counter talking to customers she obviously knows rather than actually working. Today she stood and continued her conversation with one man for around 5 minutes while we waited. We also noted that she handed him his food but he did not appear to have paid??? Is that how it works, someone she knows is given products while other customers are overcharged to make up the shortfall? We said nothing the first couple of times thinking it was a small amount and possibly a genuine mistake in a busy business but then again today we realise this is intentional. This is a very busy business, if they serve 100 customers per day and add on $2 each that's an extra $200 in clear profit per day, 5 days a week that's an extra $1000, per month $4000 and in a year $48 000. Most people won't notice a small extra charge or when walking off just let it go, but this business is ripping people off. Possibly a case for notifying Consumer Affairs. Treat your customers with respect or you will lose them.

The coffee (Picollo) was perfectly done and the Hot Chocolate was dark and hot. The Vegemite and Cheese Pie (a take on a traditional scroll) was amazing... I didn't order it but stole from the plate next to mine. Two of us ordered the Mahumsor breakfast for a bit of a change from standard bacon and eggs and found it was so tasty we were eating too quickly! There are a lot of bakery goods to come back for and we will definitely be back for brunch. Stop by... it's new but could definitely do with more business. Nice and quiet on Saturday morning.
