We arrived at 19.30 and had a look around the premises the rink looked fabulous there is seating to one side for changing into skates and ther are free lockers for any valubles that you have with you. There is a very cozy cafe with comfortable seating if you need to relax after your hard skate with lots of soft drinks,water and snacks for energy. Also available is a party room which would be great for childrens parties or even for us big folks. Back to the rink Scott Laurie from MeanCity Roller Derby had the donated to the just giving site and he bought the privilege of cutting the ribbon and declaring the rink open, and was first onto skate. The floor has a few wee rumbly bits but I am sure these will settle down in time and with use. The floor is from Kelvin Hall and has lots of tape markings from courts which make it look funky, I like that a bit of history is being preserved. There are pillars in the rink these are well padded in case any one runs against them, there is skate hire available and classes for all abilities and I am looking forward to the dance class on skates. There is also a DJ booth and on Saturday we skated to some upbeat tunes. We had a very enjoyable time and will return as soon as I can.

The space is great - a large rink as well as skate hire, cafe, party space and loos. Overall, it's pretty big and a good set up. It was £8 for the two hour session (more if you need to hire skates) and the only downside was that it was an all-ages session, and skating near wee kids is more terrifying than playing roller derby. Personally, I would only go back for an adults-only session as it's just too stressful to have to watch out for wild kids on skates getting underfoot. I didn't check out the cafe but overall thought the place was pretty well set up. If you've never skated before I'd highly recommend borrowing some protective gear as you can do some serious damage if you fall. Note: they also offer lessons and private parties.

For a small cafe in a sporting centre it's very good. The hot chocolate was nice, as was the latte, but nothing special. The paninis how ever were very yum! Hit the spot for sure. I couldn't decide between the Brie, Apple and cranberry or the salmi and cheese, so we got both and halved them :D yum yum! Not much fuss but tasty! We then shared a slice of paradise cake and my goodness! One of the best coconut cakes I've ever had :D nom nom! The staff are lovely, and the cafe space quite open plan and useful. Complete with a log burning fire *yay* toasty!

I actually wasn't really sure what it was, and pictured that there would be more boulders and less walls. It is in fact just rock climbing without ropes and on shorter walls. The Climbing Academy seems like a cool place. It's a big space with a proper cafe serving sandwiches, cakes, lots of drinks etc and lots of seating as well for parents/observers. We were doing a 1 hour induction session which cost £10 including shoe hire. All you need to boulder is some kind of comfortable gym gear, and to hire the shoes. Super snug shoes with grippy soles to help you climb. I kept my socks on, apparently it's better to go without. Mmm, not when I'm hiring them it isn't. We were shown around the centre and the novelty of jumping on the squishy flooring never got old. I imagine if you fell from the top it would still hurt, but it was nice having padding to break your fall (seing as I'm used to falling while on skates onto a basketball court). Climbing was relatively straightforward. Apparently you're meant to start from a seated position on the floor, but due to my lack of upper body strength, that just wasn't going to happen. You follow the coloured grips on the wall and can challenge yourself by advancing through the colours. I think I just stayed on purple and black though because I was a bit rubbish. The instructor was really helpful and encouraging. As were the people I was with, so it was a good atmosphere. It was really fun climbing stuff, although my hands and arms were really sore really quickly. If you keep going you build up callouses, I'm not really sure about that. The hour went by pretty quickly. I would definitely go back, and the only reason this isn't 5 stars is because I feel like I wasn't really there long enough to experience properly. A fun way to spend a mate's birthday!

Our instructor Mark was excellent, particularly given that the group was 2 adults and 2 teenagers - he kept all of our attention, and ensured that we were all safe and competent, and weren't going to let each other accidentally plunge to our deaths/severe injury. I felt very safe the whole time. I don't know much about climbing, and what particular features or challenges that you'd look for from a climbing centre, but this place looked pretty awesome to me. Because it's in an old church, the climbing walls are really high, and there's loads of them, with all sorts of different gradients, and a big overhanging wall too. There's also a bouldering area in the basement. There was a cafe, which wasn't open when we were there, but looked like it provided some nice healthy options - there was a choice of smoothies which caught my eye. I thought an hour wouldn't be long enough, but even though I'd only done 3 climbs, my arms were pure burst by the end, so it was actually plenty of time. I'd love to go back here and practice some more.

No its not Thursday night is fetish night, its the Glasgow Climbing Centre. Opened since 1994 and still going strong, the climbing centre offers a fantastic opportunity to do a bit of rock climbing in a dry and safe environment. Whether your using it as a pro looking to stay sharp or as a complete amateur trying it for the first time, there are routes to suit of abilities and nerves. Priced a little steeply at over £7 a pop its still a fantastic facility and a chance to do something that's not just cool but is amazingly good for your health...if the heights don't get to you that is! With other facilities such as a cafe, new since the last time i went, and a shop for all your climbing gear needs, this place is top notch. Oh and dont worry that you'll ever get bored climbing the same routes (around 270 combined top rope and boulder problems) as they are changed every 3 months by the resident team of trained spider monkeys kept in the basement, a spectacle in itself!!

I used to love the Lagoon when I was a teenager! Every weekend I would don one of my many pairs of…read morefluorescent colored jeans, as was the style at the time (the green were my faves!) and head down to the Lagoon ice rink with my friends. There used to be a huge queue outside of spotty adolescents dying to get in so that they could hang around the edge of the ice rink but not actually do any skating, while the DJ (yes an actual DJ) played a selection of 90s dance hits. "Groove is in the heaaa-aaarrt." "We are the children of the night. We fight for the future of our nation." "Rhythm is a dancer. It's a source of passion." "Everybody's freeeeeee to feel good." And so on. We really did think we were the coolest things out at the time. Sigh, those were the days. I was devastated to hear that the ice rink is no more and instead it has been replaced with a sort of sports hall type thing where you can play and watch racket and team sports. There is also a gym but it is perma-mobbed so I don't use it anymore. The pool is quite good fun. It has a section for doing lengths but there is also a wave machine and what can very loosely be described as a flume. You can also have beauty treatments at the Lagoon although I have never sampled any myself. There are loads of really fun fitness classes such as street dancing, belly dancing, vibe cycle and loads of martial arts style classes. While I will never get over the loss of the ice rink of my youth, I do think the Lagoon has come a long way in the past few years and is a great place for anyone who wants to get a bit fitter as there is so much on offer at a reasonable price.

They're chatty, friendly, full of information - and if they can't tell you something then they go out of their way to find someone who can. I've had pool guards politely step in to help teach my son and daughter to swim - just little tips to help the parental lessons. When I turned up without change for the pool lockers (it's a £1 coin), a member of staff took 90-something pence from me and told me not to worry about the pennies. The gym is good and personal trainers are available, and the main hall is used frequently for sporting tuition and markets. Even the canteen is pleasant with its view of the pool. Quibbles? The car park often gets rammed due to sheer popularity and you have to be at least 16 (I think) to look after another child in the swimming pool. This makes it a little awkward for me to take all three of our kids unless my wife joins us. Talking of kids, if you live in Glasgow make sure they sign up for their free "Kidz Card" as it gives whopping discounts here.

The pool itself is your standard 25m 8 laner - no extras like slides or toddler pools but they do have a fun session on Sunday afternoons. The staff are friendly and helpful and happy to lend arm bands and noodles and so on if needed. Because its not as fancy as others in the area, its quieter, making it better for kid free swimming!

It's got a soft kiddies play area (Ziggy's) a trampoline area (BounceZone) and an amazing lazer zone (Lazertag). I remember when the place opened me and a mate went in for a look and got a tour around the place when it was fully lit and they showed us the equipment. It was super cool. A regular Sunday afternoon booking followed for almost a year in a big squad where we would shoot each other up with silly avatar names. Sometimes we even hooked up our I-Pod to shoot each other up to our favourite tunes. Sneaking around in the dark with the Metal Gear Solid theme tune playing.. about the most fun I have ever had in my life. The lazer zone is really really good, probably the best one around, with 'Gems' kicking around which are computers on the wall that shoot you if you don't shoot them first and they give you special powers that give you an edge. They change the layout often enough to keep it interesting and there are a fair few game options. The prices are decent and the staff are friendly and up for a laugh. They do bookings and lock ins which is cool. The only annoyance for me is that they need to run through the equipment every single time which is a pain when you just want to start shooting people in the face! Good for kids.

We took our nephew here when he was visiting and he loved it; three floors of netted in soft play, ball pools, ropes and slides. You can see everything the little terrors are up to in here, and run in to rescue them if need be. It is also really cheap, and perfect for a rainy afternoon where the kids would usually be causing havoc on the couch with crayons. I was too big to go in though (sadface)
