The last review was done some time ago, and it's time for an update.
This place is a great neighbourhood leisure centre. It's well-run by universally friendly staff (they're all a credit to the place). In summary, the gym/fitness suite is great, having been recently renovated, but the swimming pool area could do with some serious attention from Glasgow Life.
The place consists of a 25m main pool, a teaching pool, a small but well-equipped gym, a dance studio and a large gymnasium which is connected to the adjacent Whitehill Secondary School. Other facilities include vending machines, a small variety of fitness goods for purchase, and a spectators' area above the main pool.
There is bike parking outside (a U-stand for three or four bikes). Car parking can be found either on Onslow Drive, or in the car park for Whitehill School. The centre is disabled accessible on its lower level (the pool), but not on its the upper level (where the gym/fitness suite and dance studio are located).
The gym/fitness suite is stocked with four treadmills, about five bikes (of various kinds), three rowing machines, free weights and a variety of mechanical resistance training machines. The equipment is all very new, and in good condition. The good folk of Dennistoun do use it fairly intensively though, so there can be times when it's difficult to get on the machines, particularly during weekday evenings.
There are a variety of classes on offer, including the usual spin, body pump, Zumba, etc., most of which are familiar Glasgow Club staples. A personal trainer service is available, and they also run a 'boot camp' club from the centre. The pool area now also runs lifeguard training courses.
The main issues with the place are that:
1) The changing rooms for the swimming pool are regularly flooded, and have to be put out of use. They're also not particularly inviting or modern.
2) The changing rooms for the gym/fitness suite are somewhat cramped. They are modern though, and are always clean. During peak hours, it's best to arrive ready to work out and avoid them altogether.
Other than that, recommended. read more
