Update to my earlier review: I have tried dozens more dishes at El Agave and have still not had a bad one. Some favorites: Chilaquiles, Chicken Chimichanga (comes with chicken tostada; a lot of food), Poblano Relleno, and Tilapia Loca. All of these selections are generously portioned and delicious. After eating here since they opened, I am disappointed by a recent visit this week. My family and I were impressed by renovations, as we hadn't been in awhile. Our waiter showed us to a large table and left, returning shortly with menus. It was an incredibly long time before he returned to even take a drink order. My sister ordered a daiquiri, and I was laughed at by the waiter when I ordered one as well. Not sure why this happened- I am over ten years older than she is and cant figure out how it could've been funny. While taking our order, our waiter acted like we were a bother, although the restaurant wasn't full by any means. He didn't even look at us as we were ordering. We had a nice experience with the food- over the years, the food has always been great, although I was disappointed when 2 of the dishes I ordered for my kids was incorrect. I asked my group if I'd said the right dish when ordering and they confirmed that I had. Made us feel like the waiter didn't care about our experience. He didn't return to check on our dishes or ask if we needed anything else throughout the rest of the meal. The gentlemen bussing tables did come by and refresh our chips for salsa and seemed very friendly, so that was much appreciated. Overall, we were there to celebrate a birthday and enjoy our experience, but were disappointed after visiting many times over the years. Came here with a large party and the place was accommodating and able to fit all of us in the back room quickly. The place was full of locals so it seemed like a hot spot. The guacamole was good! Sometimes guacamole can be lacking or taste fake but this one was decent. The server told us one of the best sellers was the jumbo burrito so we ordered that and my brother ate the whole thing. The street taco plate came with a side of onions and cilantro and green sauce. The steak was good but the pork was very greasy tasting. It didn't have the authentic street taco taste to it. The cilantro in the cup was also browning which didn't make it seem very fresh. The chips were kind of burnt tasting. Not the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to but it did ok for the area and what was available in town. read more

Friendly service. Food came quick and was good. Restaurant was clean. Easy parking. Watched the Nebraska football game while we were there.

I've come back after 2 1/2 years. Lunch with an associate, had the pompano rellano... Hard to compare with the South Texas fare as it has been 3 years... But the Negra Modelo was a treat to the taste buds. Chips and salsa....well I've had better, maybe spoiled on my apace picante.. But the pompano with shredded chicken on al a Carter was just enough for me... Not too bad, but I'm not phoning my Mom!! Atmosphere is nice, has a bar. Might just have a Mojito.... read more

We had carry out jumbo burritos and a side of refried beans. Everything was warm and excellent.

The only compliment I can offer this restaurant is that it was relatively inexpensive. The food and service were truly awful. As out of state visitors for the weekend, we had enjoyed a great experience at La Cocina in York the day before. Our experience at El Agave in Central City was the polar opposite; we were unpleasantly surprised by the dramatically different food quality and service in these neighboring towns. We like to support local businesses whenever possible, but we would absolutely not return to this restaurant. read more

First Mexican food restaurant in Central City and I have yet to not like any of their dishes, everything is fresh and authentic, the service is always prompt and friendly. The chips and queso are a must paired with one of the best margaritas in this town! read more

El Agave is a fantastic authentic Mexican restaurant. We have a family of 5 and there is something for everyone. My father, who does not care for Authentic Mexican, loves their Shrimp Fajitas and their Maragartias. We have an Airbnb and we are so fortunate to be able to refer our guests to El Agave. They've all raved about the restaurant. They are also a fantastic option for take-out. read more

Nice place and very clean. Food came out fast and the service was good. Similar food to Mazatlan in Lincoln, NE.m and we really enjoyed it.

Good Mexican food served at El Agave. Fajitas, chorizo with eggs, tacos, chori pollo, all has been really good so far, price is fair, staff is kind and service is fast. I would recommend this place anytime. read more
