You can not use a typical bun on this Caveman Burger. It has to be one that can stand up to the weight and the juices of the condiments as well as the meat. Then you add the bacon & cheese...WOW! Many want to know how this stacks up to the best burgers in the state. Well you can't compare this to any other than maybe the one at Cotham's In The City in Little Rock. If they made this like many of my favs this thing would completely fall apart and be dang near impossible to eat w/o a fork, but you can actually pick this thing up and eat it if you wanted. So too compare would be an injustice to this work of art. It's in a class all its own. This burger is a work of art in the cook, the build, and the stability. I refuse to put this up against another. If you wanted to order a regular burger there and compare then go for it, but that's for a return visit for me. As you can see we tried some other things as well. Enjoyed the chicken fried steak & mashed potatoes. So if you aren't in the mood for the meat sweats then there are plenty of other great options to this wonderful place. From the moment you step in, the decor, the building, the layout, the location, the hospitality, the staff, the quality, and I could go on and on. LOVE THIS PLACE! Long story short, I had eaten at another place owned by this family in Melbourne and hadn't even realized the connection. I can say I was far more impressed w/this joint then the previous one. I have zero complaints about the other, but they have become very well rounded in Cave City. It makes me so proud of our small town communities when I can go to a place like this and it be packed w/locals. It takes a village and I will give props to that area for keeping this place hoping. They deserve the support. The staff has earned the support. Show them some love when you visit! Tip well and enjoy!

The inside decor was very eclectic with art, paper stars hanging from the ceiling, and mix-matched furniture. It felt very fun. We chose to sit in a booth by the window around 1:00. There was only one other table of patrons when we arrived. It was very cold inside, but it looked clean. I ordered a ham sandwich with chips. My mom ordered a pick two with half BLT and a half cup of chicken and wild rice soup. The wait was slow for some cold sandwiches and premade soup. My sandwich was good but it just tasted like regular deli meat on white sandwich bread. The chips came from a basket with two different types of sun chips, which were not my favorite. My mom's soup did not have any chicken or meat in it, just the broth and lots of beans. It was also very spicy, which unfortunately didn't work with her dietary restriction. She wasn't able to eat much of it. We both got drinks, as well, but never refills. Our waitress didn't come back to check on us. Together the bill was in the mid $30s + tax and a tip. It just felt overpriced for mediocre food and service. Cute place, but I probably won't go back.

I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

No that would be soft serve was the answer. They do have real ice cream too. We were a bit slow on the uptake, and our sweet counter girl, Emily, who was in her 20s but looked 15, patiently explained the ice cream came in a cup and the milk shakes were soft serve only, because evidently their shake machine can't handle the hard real stuff. We caved, got soft serve. We wanted malts not ice cream sprinkled with malt. *sigh.* Bella, Michael and Kennedy looked on, in training with our youthful trainer, and Kennedy remarked, "You're living on the edge," It was her first day. The place also had other retro food, except for the seed oils, which meant shakes only for us.

The biggest issue was the service. The employee working the cash register came across as rude and unfriendly, as if customers were inconveniencing him. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt like we were being treated poorly, which put a damper on the entire visit. While the food tasted good, the portions were a bit skimpy on ingredients for the price. Considering how expensive everything was, I expected better value and a more positive customer experience. I know this restaurant has plenty of fans, but I found some of the employees to be arrogant and dismissive. The treatment we received felt rude and unprofessional, and it left a lasting negative impression. Overall, I am deeply disappointed. Good food can only make up for so much, and the poor service overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable meal. I would not return based on the way we were treated. It's very clean but very old stuff and to much on display with old plants everywhere.

What we ordered: Sweet tea: Being in the South, I always judge a place by its sweet tea. This is the molasses-style sweet tea--very sweet--so I'd recommend cutting it with unsweetened tea. Breakfast egg rolls: Delicious overall. The filling could've used a little more salt or seasoning, but the gravy was absolute perfection. Chicken & waffles: Fluffy waffles that leaned slightly sweet, but paired really well with the flavorful, well-fried chicken and maple syrup. I recommend asking for the syrup on the side. The portion is large enough to share. Buffalo chicken sliders: The clear winner of the day! The buffalo sauce was perfect, the buns were soft and fluffy, the chicken was crispy, and the shoestring fries were cooked just right. Caesar salad: Decent, but the real star was the blackened shrimp. The seasoning was excellent, and I'd definitely try something blackened again! Overall: Very good food, friendly and fast service, and a cute environment. I'd absolutely come back for dinner and would recommend it to anyone.
