So yummy, it exceeded our expectations. My mom had un pan de elote, sweet corn bread, it was amazing. I wish I would have taken a photo of it. A must have!
What a cool and delightful find! Just one block off Montero, this lovely mom and pop bistro has not only the best coffee and food, but also Alexa. Not only the most pleasant waitress we ever had anywhere but also the best English speaker we ever heard outside England! Do yourself the favour - go. Hope to see you there! Loring and Tim.
We chose this restaurant thanks to their strong review rating on Yelp. We are happy we made that choice! We are visiting Merida for the first time and wanted to find a local place for breakfast/brunch. Location: A short walk from our Airbnb, we worked up an appetite before arriving. We were greeted upon entering and directed to a seat. The place is quaint like an authentic Mexican cafe. My only complaint was that the tables felt a bit too high in relation to the seating. Not a big deal. Drink: I saw a previous review where someone mixed horchata with coffee, so I opted to try that. Deliciosa! Food: For my meal, I chose the French toast because I saw it on another table. Also a great choice! They really put effort into presentation. The toppings dressed the toast nicely. The toast itself was nice and fluffy with a slight crisp on the edges (just how I like it). Yummy disk. Additionally, we tried an omelette because a friend was raving about it. Wow! It was so good for such a simple disk! Very flavorful, even without meat. We may go return before we travel back to America. Highly recommend.

This was our first stop in Merida and it did not disappoint! The bread they use for the avocado toady is perfect and came with some seared cheese on top. They also have an habanero sauce that made us want to come back again. The girls here are lovely and were kind!

Since we landed in Mérida we wanted to check this place out. It was 10 minutes from our Air BnB and went on our last day. The inside is some great art and the seating is awesome. I recommend trying to sit by one of the murals. The coffee is delicious and I recommend the chilaquiles con huevo, enchiladas suizas, or the huevos rancheros! Can't wait to get back!
Really terrific food and service. It's a small place and it can get busy, you might want to make a reservation at peak hours. I prefer their breakfast menu over their lunch, but it's just personal preference - both are excellent.
Five stars! Best breakfast I had in Mexico so far! It's a small joint with seating for sixteen or so. It's a simple menu of a dozen items or so, but those items are done well. From the handcrafted plates, saucers, coffee mugs and even the check presenter.. to the quality of ingredients and plate presentations.. it's five stars! I had the Croque del Barrio and my girlfriend ordered the French toast; Both dishes were fantastic! The flavors and the textures all worked together so well. We would definitely return to eat here again.

An adorable little spot near the beginning of the Paseo de Montejo. It's a small but beautifully decorated space with 2 different rooms. Our server, Pamela, was attentive and friendly. Both of our meals were delicious and we will be returning while here in Merida. I've been craving more of that horchata de cacao all day.
From Chicago, first time at EB on a Sunday morning for brunch. Here are my thoughts: -This place has a gourmet feel to it, in a good way. Everything is special, nothing is ordinary. -I ordered the French toast with a side of potatoes. -The French toast had granola, strawberry jam, and a sweet cinnamon cream cheese on top. The toast was delightful! The toppings were delicious and creative. -The potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned--scrumptious! This place is a gem. Highly recommended!! read more

One of the best breakfast spots in downtown Merida. The food is reasonably priced. It appears to be "farm to table". The ingredients were fresh. The presentation of the food was A+! Definitely can eat with your eyes! My favorite was their omelette! Wow! The service was impeccable! The atmosphere was so relaxing. Put it on your bucket list! read more

Tucked behind the Archeology Museum. We had the best lunch in Mérida...that also matched our particular combined food allergies and vegetarian and meat eating needs. The ash bread is really light and interesting. Staff is nice and accommodating and the kombucha on tap is delicious. read more

The service was slow but attentive for party of 6. The food was very good with great flavors, totally worth it. The ambiance was ok, I expected more based on the pictures. Definitely has opportunity to make look more colonial. Other then that a great place to have breakfast, coffee and dessert . Would definitely eat here again. read more

This place is a quaint little restaurant without much seating, but the food here is something you wanna make room for. The presentation of food and drinks here is a welcome little treat, though definitely not necessary for me. Horchata de cacao - so darn good. I think the cacao aspect was a bit lost, but this horchata was definitely a winner. Breakfast Sandwich - got this twice and the second time I ended up giving it away because it was too chewy and tough. However, the first time I had it - marvelous. Blew me away - the buns are so sweet and soooo good. I wish it had a bit more cheese but this is still an amazing sandwich, when it isn't chewy. Enchiladas Suizas - I loveeeee suizas enchiladas so me trying this out isn't fair. I think I liked my breakfast sandwich more, but I'm so down with these enchiladas. They also have a bunch of bottle beverages - I got a Velvet Soda, Lychee flavor. If you're looking for a fruity soda for your meal / to-go then you can't go wrong with Velvet Soda. I came here for breakfast with my mother last week and we loved it! I randomly found this restaurant when I was searching for a good brunch spot. We ordered the french toast, breakfast sandwich, fruit bowl, and avocado toast (I know, I know. That's a lot of food. We definitely had to-go plates). Everything was delicious! And the potatoes that came with the breakfast sandwich were well seasoned. The service was great and the restaurant was charming and super casual. read more

Wonderful service and fantastic food. We had the chiliquilies, croque del (?), and had to try the French toast. Everything was great, hubby even ate the salad that came with the croque. Ingredients seemed very fresh and house made instead of commercially made. read more

The best French Toast you will ever have. Amazing presentation and the freshest ingredients. The bread is cooked for your individual plate and is crispy on the outside but soft and gooey on the inside. Making this a must for anyone in Merída! read more

This a wonderful neighborhood gen with extremely fresh and inventive food. We had the French toast, Croque del Barrio and Chilaquiles. The French toast was huge with tons of fresh berries, nuts and cream. It was a little moist inside, if that's an issue for you. The Croque del Barrio was delicious, and they put their own spin on chilaquiles - in a bowl with lots of fresh ingredients. The horchata was also excellent. It's a small restaurant with limited seating, and the food prep can take a bit, but it's worth the wait. read more
El Barrio is just one block off of Paseo de Montejo and sits right on the corner. Blink, and you might miss it. We did on our first visit to Merida. However, we were also only eating outdoors at the time. As expected, we had a temperature check and were offered hand sanitizer. There are about ten or so tables, and they are nicely spaced out. Servers all wear face coverings. As with many local places, they have QR codes laminated to the tables that link to online menus. Our Spanish is elementary at best, but we try, and the staff was SUPER helpful with working with us. They claim to offer organic comfort food and absolutely deliver. This place is what most would call boutique. Want juice? The only option is orange ($38) - natural and freshly squeezed. It comes in a wooden cup with the restaurant's logo and is delicious. We heard fantastic things about their Chilaquiles, and both went with Chilaquiles with Eggs ($125). You can also get them with Chicken or Smoked Meat. We got a bowl filled with thin crispy fried tortilla strips, tossed in a Salsa Verde with Avocado, Queso Fresco with Black Beans, and a little fresh salad of Herbs, Radishes, and Cherry Tomatoes. My perfectly runny Fried Egg added lots of richness to the dish that was already amazing. Note for those who don't like spice - we found the Salsa Verde to be really flavorful but not spicy. So, don't be afraid to try this. They present checks in cute little woven baskets that look like Mayan huts. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. As we were leaving, one of the servers was standing to the side of the main room making some kind of announcement in Spanish we were missed most of. As we walked outside, he broke into song. We were blown away. It was a nice touch with our breakfast. Two notes at the risk of stating the obvious - the $ in Mexico denotes Pesos. So, don't be alarmed if you've been to more touristy areas in Mexico where prices are in US dollars. At the time of dining, our costs in US dollars were: 2 Fresh Orange Juice = 38 pesos each or $3.78 2 Chilaquiles with Eggs = 125 pesos each or $12.44 read more

Had breakfast here based on all of the great reviews. Everyone was right. Felt like a farm to table breakfast spot. I ordered a cup of coffee that was quite bold and strong. My wife ordered the heuvos rancheros and I got the heuvos gemelos. The gemelos is their version of eggs benedict. Eggs on a sweet cornbread with chorizo and a béchamel sauce. Coms with sprouts and fresh tomatoes. I loved the cornbread. My wife really enjoyed the rancheros. I added a tall glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. During the middle of our meal one of the waiters serenaded us with two songs of opera. Nice touch. read more
I'm back in Merida and I was looking forward to a second helping of a magical experience of the chilaquiles and French toast but instead of magic all I got was a rude awaking. Don't bother coming to El Barrio because the magic is gone!!! read more
