Sometimes when a journey looks sizzling hot and far, the best response was to pass. However, I'm always the kind of person who says "why not!", so I ended up doing a long, sizzling hot beach walk with my boyfriend in the middle of the day at Playa Sayulita. Exhausted and tired, we were looking for somewhere we can sit down (in the shade) with some beverages and water to re-hydrate. Then we found this bar, El Break, r at the beach front. We sat on the wooden chairs and ordered a tropical fruit smoothie and a passion fruit margarita. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the size of my smoothie, it was huge... and delicious! I chose water as my base, and it was sweetened by mango, banana and guava. Yum! My bf really liked his passionfruit margarita, that it actually inspired him to recreate it at home! Overall, El Break was a nice rest stop for us. The only downside was being spotted by the street venders nonstop, but that was not a deal breaker. read more

This place saddens me. The view is spectacular and their outdoor seating is adorable and comfortable but the food was absolutely terrible. To be fair, I only tried their chilaquiles but they were truly the worst I've tried. I consider myself a "chilaquiles expert" as it is my usual order at breakfast places. The only thing that was hot on the plate was the eggs. The chilaquiles weren't cooked at all, they just thick and stale tortilla chips on the plate and just poured salsa over it. The one good thing that I tasted here was their smoothie, it was nice and refreshing on the hot day (it was also really big). Overall don't come here for food! Overpriced and icky. Also their bathroom didn't have running water to flush the toilet... it did not smell good in there. read more

El Break Cafe is a cool spot, located directly adjacent to the beach! You walk from the beach to the water up the stairs then up to El Break Cafe! They have endless amounts of outdoor seating with great views of the beach. If you are nearby looking for some good grub or a stiffy drink, this is the spot! They have a full size bar where you can chill - but if you're someone like me... the outdoor seating is where it's at for people watching the the prices views of the beach. What a wonderful location with elevated street level seating at the bar and tables in front, and ample seating on the sand facing the beach. El break was our favorite afternoon drink spot. I discovered it when I needed lunch and no one else in my party did. I got a torta to go and it was delicious, then we went back to get drinks later that day. Mojito was my favorite here, but everything was good. We got the nachos one day and they were delicious too. My family came here as part of a wedding group celebration renting out all their chairs for the day on the beach to accommodate the group. We had around 30-40 people there. We had. ceviche, spicy tuna, quesadillas, and a rice bowl as well as drinks and all were wonderful. The issues came down to service and paying our bills. There were two waiters who were not very attentive and were very confused. When it came time to pay our bills they brought one check and we went to pay, and within five minutes they had brought three others. They couldn't explain where all the charges came from and this led to a very frustrating conversation and having to find someone who spoke good English and Spanish to sort out the mess. This happened with almost everyone's tab in our party. I would suggest paying as you go. While the food and drinks were good the poor service and lack of ability to communicate paying our bills left a poor taste in everyone's mouth. I would not recommend going here as the afternoon is enjoyable up until bill pay and then it's a fight with the waiters to get the mess sorted out. read more
