El Cactus Taco Shop opened up recently at the corner of Ontario and Huron streets. I love the fresh and colourful vibe of this place. They have plexiglass barriers between staff and patrons, as well as restrictions on numbers of patrons allowed in the store. They offer a concise menu of tacos ($6), burritos ($13), & a variety of snacks but what they make, they do really well. We ordered El Cochinito (pork carnitas), which came with a generous amount of pickled onions. We also ordered El Gringo - chicken tingas, with queso fresco, pico de gallo, iceberg lettuce. The tacos come with a gluten free tortilla. They also have keto friendly tortillas available for an additional $2. There is also a vegan taco option called El Hippie, which has spicy walnut "meat", avocado cream, and cashew lime crema. We came about 10 minutes before closing and our orders were ready in about 5-7 minutes. The tortillas were lightly toasted. The tacos tasted very fresh and the flavours were quite balanced. Given the 3-4 bite size of these tacos, I'd say $6 is just about right for the tacos we purchased. We only ordered two tacos because we had already had dinner elsewhere, but this was a good tasting size for hubby and I. If you're very hungry or have a bigger appetite, you may need to order 2-3 tacos, or try the burritos to feel full. There is a patio to the side of the main entrance, with seating for about 10-12 patrons. El Cactus is a great addition to the food scene in Stratford.

    Perfect lunch for the summer

Booooring. Good service, typical boutique / tourist destination restaurant pricing (not cheap),…read moremostly small plate servings...but overall a disappointment. We ordered: blue crab hashbrowns (the only standout; would definitely order again, except that I won't likely return), salt roasted beets, brussel sprout caesar, scallops, and duck breast; then we both had creme brûlée and espresso. We tried the three white wines, one was a forgettable Chardonnay and the other two...were equally forgettable, notwithstanding being less common grapes. Only the duck was a main-size serving, and we only chose it because when we ordered there was only one order of scallops remaining (for a 5:30 seating!). I want to say "just as well" because the scallops and sauce were bland so we got to try something else...however the duck was not merely uninteresting but the red pepper sauce didn't complement and contributed nothing. The scallops were priced like a main but only four little guys on the plate, the one upside if we had both chosen them we'd have had room for another order of those crab hashbrowns. The beets were also dull, no idea why the word salt is in the name because it was absent from the dish. No tang to anything except the brussel Caesar. I've seen the brussel sprout restaurant renaissance of the last 10-15 years, this dish is pretty common now. This one was on a par with many others I've had but no improvement, and some might be put off: fully half the outer leaves are charred to the point of becoming a mouthful of ash. Not crispy, just dry ash. I guess that's different...and maybe this is the root of the problem. This restaurant makes a point of changing their menu constantly; not just seasonally, but weekly, even daily. So maybe they're just trying out stuff that pops into the chef's head. With the exception of the crab, every dish seemed to need something to make it interesting or appealing. The espresso was good, but the creme brûlée was another ill conceived concoction, with some kind of raspberry trifle thing on the bottom and the creme was a strange thick porridge-like texture and not quite the typical flavour. Last complaint: their self-description says Elevated Comfort. No. Mundane bistro look and ok seating, but that steep and poorly lit descent to the basement washrooms is the opposite of comfort. Hey, maybe we just picked the wrong items from their evolving experiment of a menu. The people are all nice, the service was good, and none of the food was bad...just meh.

One of the BEST dining experiences of the year!…read more I came for the first time last October. Our table of two had a reservation -- which is highly recommended. The place filled up fast! The cosy restaurant has lots of small tables, and some bar seating as well. Our server, Arbra (sp?), took such GREAT care of us. When she came to tell us about the menu, she paused to listen to my particular dietary restrictions and then went to check with the chefs in the kitchen. When she returned, she presented me with the menu showing mark-ups to indicate dishes that are no-go AND which dishes could be adapted just for me. There were still tons of options for me! I've never seen this type of service and flexibility before! I got to enjoy the meal completely worry-free. What we ordered: Cocktails -- Brooklyn, and Dark & Stormy Pig Head Terrine with zucchini relish, toast Salmon Tiradito with sweet corn, aji amarilo, cilantro Cold Roast Lamb with eggplant caponata, mint Hanger Steak with new potato, watercress salad Chocolate & Beet Torte with red wine poached plums and sorbet Everything was absolutely delicious. Every dish was beautifully plated and wonderfully balanced flavours. Whether hot or cold dish, every one was a surprise and journey. Especially loved the cold plates! Absolutely delightful. Can't wait to return!

This restaurant's sit in an old revitalized church and there is a lot of charm to it. From the stain glass windows to the beautiful chandeliers, it's definitely a beautiful place for any celebration. The staff here are very friendly however we did get a newer staff member who seems to not know the menu well. We had a misorders and the food did take a while to come out. Mind you, we weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big concern and they were very apologetic for bringing us the wrong food, which they corrected promptly. The food itself was good. Everything came out on warm plates and tasted great. We went for brunch so we had brunch/lunch options for food. I will say the food was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. You definitely come here for the ambiance more than the food. Though despite saying that, the fries were super crispy and hot, and I really enjoyed the duck flat bread which was pretty unique. All in all a wonderful celebration and beautiful space.

Food-wise, pretty average brunch/lunch menus. They did have a nice variety of eggs Benedict renditions and sandwiches. Service seemed a bit slow & not too familiar with the menu, but still pleasant. We tried: -Duck flatbread (5/5, loved the textures and the pickled pear flavours) -Leek & smoked Salmon tart (4/5, I will say the tart had an incredibly tiny portion) -Beef & shrimp eggs Benedict (4/5) -Steak & eggs -fried Chicken burger -monte cristo sandwich -Reuben sandwich Honestly, all the food tasted good and was cooked well. Albeit smaller portions for some of the non-sandwich dishes and prices slightly higher than your typical. TIP: Make sure you walk around and tour their upstairs floor!
