Delicious every time & is the only other Mexican restaurant in town we go to when not going to the other one we love..

Passing through we decided to stop and get something to eat. We live just 35 miles from Fort Scott and live Mexican food. So we walked in was seated promptly and the waiter walked up And looked at us without saying a thing, I am guessing he wanted our drink order without saying a word. Gave him a drink order and he promptly brought them. We waited a bit to order food and felt pressured to order immediately. I ordered a #6 combo and the wife ordered nachos. The burrito and enchilada were nothing but dried out, very lightly (and I mean lightly) seasoned hamburger meat wrapped into a tortilla with no signs that it was warmed or cooked. Waiter was constantly walking by and never bothered to check on us. And I wasn't sure if I should have said anything. His appearance was a little scary. Ok, first what they did right.. The chips are AMAZING! Light and thin enough to have massive crunch, but hold up well in all manner of substances. Now for the tragic news... they only know how to make Americanized Mexican food. I'm glad I didn't come here hungry! The pico de gallo is beautiful, but so bland, it tastes like they use diced green peppers instead of jalapeños. Weird! Even the onions taste like the "onions" McDonald's uses, no flavor, just white and crunchy. Same for the refried beans; tastes like someone knows their way around a #10 can and an industrial can opener. The margarita is an odd color; Flavorade lime flavor, I think. At least they didn't skimp on the tequilla, woah! I'm the only one wearing a mask; literally, the only one. Strange! Are all the ESL employees science denying Trump fans? Strange place. I definitely recommend coming here for a margarita; you'll get blasted in a few sips. Then head down to Taco Bell if you want something a bit more authentic. read more

Great carnitas. The place was clean and not very busy. The carnitas had just the right amount of crisp.

Makes me feel like I'm in heaven every time I am their, I go with my usual, the churros chicken but with steak

Ate lunch here today and really enjoyed it. Very friendly and fast service. I had an enchilada with the white sauce . Loved that. My daughter had a fiesta burrito and said it was fabulous too. For drinks, I had an amazing mango margarita. And my daughter had their horchata. Next time we're in Ft Scott, I would absolutely go back. read more

Only missed 5 stars because the front register woman was not very friendly... That being said, my food was nothing short of amazing! Get the "Mocajete" entree with shrimp option. Think: tasty fajita pot pie. Crispy, thick tortilla covering a pile of yummy steak, chicken and shrimp, sitting in a delicious spicy mocajete sauce. It came to-go with chips and salsa, tortillas, beans, entire lime and guacamole. It's pricey but worth it. I only ate half and am completely full. I'll definitely split it next time. Had lunch there today with a friend. Friendly service and tasty food but - was very disappointed that staff nor customers were wearing masks! nothing good at all messed up all our orders i asked for beef fajita nachos and they gave me shredded chicken nachos i also asked for no cheese sauce and they gave me that plus shredded cheese my friend also asked for tacos and the they gave him enchiladas the margaritas tasted like straight margarita mix no alcohol would not recommend... go somewhere else. read more

Really good food, and we had super fast service, the day we were there, we no more than ordered and in 10 minutes all 3 people at our table had their food and were eating. The staff was very friendly and personable. We continue to eat there and have not been disappointed yet. read more

This was our first trip to this restaurants since we moved to a neighboring town. This restaurant will now be a favorite of ours! The food is wonderful, the best Mexican food I've had in years. The staff is all so very nice and talk to all of the customers ! I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

Ate here for the first time tonight and expected good but average Mexican food based on other El Charro restaurants in area. However, the sauce (poblano, heavy cream, and spinach) on my chicken enchiladas was amazing! Meat and filling cooked perfectly! Wife and daughter loved their food as well. After I complimented the cook, a few minutes later he brought out samples of two other sauces - mole and six-pepper cream. Again, wow! I will be back, and I'll ask which sauces are available. read more

My sister and I went there to eat several times but today will be the last time. As we were eating our lunch, my sister all of a sudden pulled a hair out of her mouth! My sisters hair is about 4 inches long and my hair is about 6 inches long and the hair that she pulled out of her mouth was at least 10 to 12 inches long! She is a blonde and I am brunette and the hair she pulled from her mouth was very dark brown. Disgusting! Neither one of could finish our meal which was not even half eaten! We told our server about it and there was no apology .... didn't even offer my sister a discount on her meal. When we told the server it's like he didn't care. read more

I'm confused by the negative reviews. We had a special order and they accommodated us without a problem. The service was quick and gracious. The food was fantastic and arrived hot. This is a great place to eat. Very clean and very tasty. Update a month later: OK, not confused, my apologies. Went back twice. 2nd trip, burrito had no flavor & missing side items listed as part of the dish on menu. Third (final) trip, fish was NOT cooked in center, & dining area had about ten flies buzzing around. Deal breaker. read more

Great place to take the whole family. Everything is really good and the coctel de camarones is the best I've ever had. The only complaint I have is that it can take too long to get a bill, and it is awkward to have to stand at the register waiting to pay for our meal. The young lady at the register was kind of snotty, like it was our fault that we didn't know our waiter's name. But we shook that attitude off and will be back next time we are in town because the food is just that good. read more

On the day that I visited the restaurant was only about a quarter full, so there was no excuse for the poor service I received. Overall the food here is very very good. Service is quick and efficient and friendly. The water glass and the ice tea was never empty. There is an extensive menu of combination plates and I had the taco enchilada and a chile relleno. There was plenty of kids menu items as well. Overall this represented a very good value for the Fort Scott area and the only reason for not getting 5 stars was the lack of cleanliness in some areas of the restaurant. read more

My family dined at this place about two weeks ago. My mother forgot her phone and realized it about 20 min later and called to see if they had. They made her describe it and then said "o, no we don't have it" when using the location app. It showed the phone being in that facility. And still they denied it. Food has went down hill in the past two years and prices went up. Wait staff is short and impatient. read more

Absolutely love el charro, however I went in there the other night and the service was the worst I've ever had. The waiter was an older guy and was very rude, in the middle of taking our Oder and wasn't paying attention to us, but the booth behind us therefore causing my plate to be all messed up and not what I ordered. Had to ask for silver wear and he seemed extremely annoyed to have to get us some, and he was not kind at all. Will not be going back to this location, I was very disappointed with my overall time spent in there that evening. read more

This particular restaurant is a stand out from a chain I typically avoid. It has a huge selection of menu items, including some that you won't find at other places. The interior is large and light and welcoming, as are the waiters. This place is so much better than the two in Nevada and the other Mexican restaurant in downtown Fort Scott. read more
